Your question was hypothetical about what it would look like without NIL. Without the big NIL offers, there would be no Parco or Teemer, so it would be an easy call to let Estrada go (probably at 149).Ok, but there is parco/teemer

He was a pretty highly ranked recruit, wasn't he? Was he lower than either Voinovich on the big board? Also that next year is going to be a logjam at 149/157 even w/o a NIL guy stepping in at either weight. Miguel has shown that he he's not the guy this year or maybe even next but he damn well could be in year 3,4,5. I don't think any of us saw him coming.
So we'll have 8th year covid guys and guys who are locked in at 5 years. No issues there at all. From what I'm hearing it will more than likely will be retroactive. As you know the NCAA doesn't want anymore lawsuits.
We get a lot of those around here...is this like an “i know something you don’t know” type post?

Hard to say what would have happened as the recruiting landscape would be much different. Could have gone hard after a high schooler.Your question was hypothetical about what it would look like without NIL. What I’m getting at is out of our top 5 wrestlers, 4 are NIL “purchases”. If we had to rely on TnT to recruit and develop talent we would be in SERIOUS trouble.Your question was hypothetical about what it would look like without NIL. Dresser did the same thing with Herrera, they burned his sort when there was still a chance Yonger came back, partly because they think the 5-year thing will happeni love the idea of wrestlers burning their redshirt if they are ready to compete and are starters.
either way, i am done with this conversation since i have now been educated that tom brands is playing 4d chess and is the only coach in the nation who has insider information that the new (potential) ncaa eligibility rule will apply retroactively so he is taking advantage of it with just one of our freshman.

Thankfully! We'll have one depending on how things settle with our lineup next year.Other than a scant few exceptions, there won't be athletes left with Covid years after next season.
Nah,KD knew he was just not letting info out about Yonger med before Herrera 5th.Dresser did the same thing with Herrera, they burned his sort when there was still a chance Yonger came back, partly because they think the 5-year thing will happen
It’s not as simple as transfers = NIL purchases and HS kids are recruited. NIL $ is going to any big signing. It’s not just Iowa and its not as much as at least one blowhard on X tries to make people believer. What I’m getting at is out of our top 5 wrestlers, 4 are NIL “purchases”. If we had to rely on TnT to recruit and develop talent we would be in SERIOUS trouble.
Iowa has a logjam at 149/157? Huh? Who?
Hopefully we can find some more logs to add to the jam from the portal.Voino squared, Block, Rathjen, and Estrada. They are all around the same tier rt now. 5 guys, 2 weights
.

5 guys who’ve never been on the podium and weren’t blue chip recruits.

Coincidentally, they’re also 5 guys who’ve never been in my kitchen.5 guys who’ve never been on the podium and weren’t blue chip recruits.
No shit sherlock. Read the original post slowly and sound out the words which include "even w/o a NIL guy." You got this Spooner.
Then possibly using up a years eligibility really shouldn’t be the concern some are making it out to be either.I think you missed the point. A bunch of guys hoping and praying to maybe have a shot at the podium is not a log jam. This is Iowa. That might be one at say an Iowa State but at Iowa it’s…

Well Voinovich beat him this year and Victor will likely get a medical for this year....Plus Bassett will likely be a 149 pounder at IOWA soon....so I'm guessing they think he is too short and small to make an impact at 157 right away. Plus the likelihood of a 5th year for all with no RS is likely to come to fruition. Hell y'all would have complained if TnT burned a year for Schriever or Peterson too but they aren't starting for 4 years and that's obvious.that is hypothetical as the rule hasn’t been changed yet. even if it does change are we sure that it will apply to athletes already in college? it seems premature to bank on all that happening. i mean 157 is far from his ideal weight too. there are plenty of other options they could have thrown out there for a dual that isn’t in question.
they wouldn’t take that risk with Ferrari so why do it with Estrada? it is pure mismanagement
With all due respect, the “log jam,” you speak of appears to be more of an indictment than a good problem to have, imo.No shit sherlock. Read the original post slowly and sound out the words which include "even w/o a NIL guy." You got this Spooner.
Exaclty. Now what PSU is going to have next year is very much a "log jam" at 133 and 157With all due respect, the “log jam,” you speak of appears to be more of an indictment than a good problem to have, imo.

I didn't say anywhere that they were auto podium guys. You asked for an example of a logjam and there are 5 guys of around the same lvl/weight that will be going for 2 spots. If we don't get NIL guys, that will be the reality.
Correct.....a hole with a logjam in it.I’ve made that point more than once.
But we’re Iowa. Our starter should look like a guy who’s going to be on the podium. This doesn’t look like a logjam to me. It looks like a hole.

What kind of ceiling are u projecting off his resume this season? His one quality win if u call it that is Kraisser who has since plummeted in the rankings.i think it’s a little shortsighted to act as if a guy’s true freshman year defines his entire career. either way, maybe i am overestimating estrada’s potential but to me he seems like a guy who has shown a higher ceiling than people maybe thought during his recruitment.
"IF my Aunt had BALLS she would be my Uncle" IOWA would be in a different situation YES, but so would F*** st, Oak st.... etc......What I’m getting at is out of our top 5 wrestlers, 4 are NIL “purchases”. If we had to rely on TnT to recruit and develop talent we would be in SERIOUS trouble.
LOLIowa has a logjam at 149/157? Huh? Who?
Estrada to 149 COULD be a high level kid IOWA will need IF he can keep wrestle at the ability he has shown while managing a weight cut.Voino squared, Block, Rathjen, and Estrada. They are all around the same tier rt now. 5 guys, 2 weights
.

I know… We like our guys.It was in the context of whether Estrada coming out of redshirt is a big deal or not. I acknowledged that I liked Estrada's potential but that we have other guys around the same skill level. Estrada could shirt next year if he wanted to....especially if we brought in two NIL guys. I think competition for spots is a good thing and who knows what they will look like by next year...especially the true freshmen.
doesn't matter. y'all are spinning your wheels.
the bottom line is that it's totally bizarre to to blow a year of eligibility for a single bout vs Maryland.
period.
Have you asked Tom about it yet? Or Estrada?doesn't matter. y'all are spinning your wheels.

You really think Tom would give a direct answer?Have you asked Tom about it yet? Or Estrada?
I don’t think if you polled people they wouldnt think it was a head scratcher. I agree outwardly looking in. You created this thread and are taking the stance they aren’t doing right by Estrada and taking away his future opportunity. Basically screwing him over for one dual. We are disagreeing with you regarding this.thank you. i don’t understand how that is a minority opinion around here.
