Decision to pull Estrada’s redshirt

i don't get it (unless Teemer is done for the year (in which case, yikes))

even if they do change the rule to get 5 years of eligibility (please lord, no!)

miguel just lost one. whether it's 3 instead of 4 or 4 instead of 5, one is lost.
No thats not how the math works. Here’s an excerpt:

In a concept under consideration by college leaders, athletes could play five full seasons of competition over a five-year span, while redshirts, waivers and other exceptions for additional seasons of eligibility are eliminated.

And they should absolutely, positively, 100% enact this rule. Redshirting is an archaic, now pointless concept that is super complex for absolutely zero reason.. Five years. End of story. It’s so simple.

UH, this would not make any sense either!!! IF you can get/ or IF it is going to be changed to FIVE years??? Then FERRARI should be going this year at 184 and Arnold at 174.

Now IF you are saying you get 5 years to compete in 4??? This STILL does not make sense!!!!

It would also indicate that TnT know something no one else does!?!?!? How about the plethora of studs on F*** st???? ALL of them would be throwing a year out the window already!!!

No years would be lost . You would get 5 years to wrestle as many duals as you want but only 4 post seasons.

Which of the PSU true freshman should be wrestling instead of their current starters? Lillendahl already is @ 125. And yes, going to a straight up 5 years would probably hurt PSU’s ability to juggle redshirts.

PSU's RSs this year are going to struggle to get in the lineup next year. Mesenbrink and Haines will still be there, which blocks Sealey and Ryder. There's an opening at 184 that Ryder could take, but Barr may move back down to allow Connor Mirasola to get in the lineup, but if not and he stays at 197, then there are only 2 spots between Barr and the two Mirasola kids.

still doesn’t map. this is one of those five years

Anyone wonder if it was the wrestlers decision to go and burn the shirt? Unless I hear he was forced on the mat and to lose a year of elegibily I’m not gonna freak out like so many.

They were only allowed to take 15 guys for a 2 meet road trip. He got on that plane hoping to wrestle, and knowing there was a good chance he would. He's also the level of recruit many of you complain about so I don't get the fuss. Also, if rosters are forced to 30 next year some guys have to be cut. I don't know if that's a factor or not, but you are looking at losing 25% of the roster if no grace period is given.

They still burned a year for nothing potentially. They could have brought KV and thrown him out there.
You will be leading the charge next year calling Estrada a plodder, and how we will never catch PSU with guys like him in the lineup. So save your "concern". And maybe the coaches know the top back up for JT could get several more matches this year so KV Isn't wanting to burn his RS. You have no idea, but will always choose the negative angle.

Then everyone should be/ could be wrestling!!! Head to opens and any other tournaments, why isn't this being done???

UH, ALL of them currently on the bench. SEE BELLOW and add even more!!! Then if this is correct??? and the great Krailure can not pull ANOTHER one of his mysterious miracles outa his arse!!!! Then is gray, red, pink, other shirts are GONE!!!! Have DUKE, BLAZE etc... coming in with NO where to go!!! Have that other FrucToast kid on some kinda "shirt" year TWOOOOO??????

CORRECT!!!
This thread is a great example of how little people know about the happenings of the program. You guys are hilarious
EXPLAIN!??!?!

"LOSING" a year is the KEY!!!!! IF someone explains HOW this does not lose him a year???? I am ALL ears!!!!

IF they had no one else, FFT!!! I think Estrada could be an excellent 149 next season, and it appears we will need one. I highly doubt IOWA will have 30 better Wrestlers and would be amazed if they did!!!!
Yes it does because there are effectively no redshirts of any kind. What would be the point of sitting if you have the opportunity to compete in a dual.
Well, it would seem like many more kids from every school might have been wrestling many more matches then wouldn't it???

It could've been clarified by Tom in about 30 seconds if he chose to share. That's not his MO, which is his prerogative. But this is info that is relatively important to the fan base but relatively unimportant in terms of competitive advantage/disadvantage. Tom has many strengths. Fan base communication is not one of them.

Bottom line is Estrada wanted to wrestle. He wanted the match. Everything will be ok. And for those saying he's cutting down to 141 he's not. He weighed in at 155 . With the decent plan that would take 6 weeks and the big 10 tournament will be over by then

Gabe didn't want the match on Friday?

I was told that all decisions were made by TNT. Is that not true?

I’m tired of the RS discussion. I now think the same way as @SPOONER on this topic (crazy, I know). I think Gabe should have competed last year and I’m fine with Estrada “burning his shirt” this year.

i love the idea of wrestlers burning their redshirt if they are ready to compete and are starters.

either way, i am done with this conversation since i have now been educated that tom brands is playing 4d chess and is the only coach in the nation who has insider information that the new (potential) ncaa eligibility rule will apply retroactively so he is taking advantage of it with just one of our freshman.

No way that's the case . All the know it all's here are saying that can't be the case 🤣. The coaches failed him and should be hung tomorrow at noon in front of Carver how dare they. Some people crack me up. Also JRod I got rid of my twitter so I haven't seen my DMs if you tried getting ahold of me

Also got to factor that Miguel isn’t a guy that has had a lot of mat time. He sat out most of his senior year and didn’t do freestyle. Maybe he wants to take every opportunity against solid opponents under the lights and hopefully carry it into freestyle.

I hate to think of where this program would be without the introduction NIL.
They adapted to the NIL way of recruiting. I’d think they would have pulled high school kids of similar caliber that they were prior. The NIL transfers would have stayed put. Don’t forget sone of this has been exacerbated by getting a Covid year also

I agree that they’ve adapted to the landscape, how sustainable is TBD. It feels like we are hanging on by a thread.

Hopefully the Bassett rumors are true and he brings some buddies with him.

Also that next year is going to be a logjam at 149/157 even w/o a NIL guy stepping in at either weight. Miguel has shown that he he's not the guy this year or maybe even next but he damn well could be in year 3,4,5. I don't think any of us saw him coming.
