JFC. Not every order from an officer needs to be followed. If an officer told you to f*ck a goat would you? Well you might, but most of us would refuse to comply.
Now imagine you are fully in your rights to perform your job legally - like a band director at a football game. Why the hell should he listen just because someone has a badge? He wasn’t creating a public safety issue and he wasn’t breaking a law.
Exactly. As was pointed out by more sensible authorities after the fact that if the blue line types felt there was a legitimate issue, it should have been handled administratively through the school system. But when you are a one dimensional hammer, everyone and everything is a nail.

Those cops are bitches for that whole thing. The band director is going to get one hell of a nice payout from the city me thinks.
Except they were under the care of their appointed guardian for the event, the band director.
Who had things under control until the police got involved.
Here is about 7 minutes of police body camera footage. As usual, they don’t release anything that shows them escalating on the band director or more importantly the alleged swinging on the cops by the victim. BAU, find the least revealing footage for the public. Trust us, we’ll tell the truth about what happened.

The game had been over for quite some time and they were asked to stop playing and leave.
It isn’t their property and they were given time to wrap up.
On someone else’s property and refusing to leave when asked can be tresspassing.
We need to re-think policing and be able to dispatch different disciplines; Yes, police for crime, but mental health professionals for those situations and substance abuse professionals for those cases.
Over half of police calls are idiots or mental health cases, not criminal.
The key is how a call is assessed and then how the right person is dispatched.
This will be a real challenge in rural areas.
