Over react much???

Complaining about the result is fine. The constant calling for coaches and AD to be fired, saying that the coaches are idiots, personal attacks on the athletes, siding with the play-by-play guy instead of the the athlete, are all things that are not OK. Those are the things that fan bases that we make fun of do.

The argument that every fan base is like this is both not true and a horrible defense. It didn't work back when you tried to use that excuse back when you were 10 years old, and it doesn't work now either.

I guess with your argument, the coaches, the players, and the athletic dept don’t own the results.

The coaches get paid a lot of money for winning, why shouldn’t they be attacked when they are on the losing end of it?

And again, come down here to LA or read about the way UCLA’s last 3 coaches were treated and you won’t find the Hawk fans that bad. I’ll take our fans over many other schools’ any day.

I get upset too ......but guess what ....the sun will rise in the morning.....my family is warm, fed and happy! No biggie .....we'll live to play another day!! I have bigger more important things in my life that makes losing a couple of games really not worth losing sleep over. Dont get me wrong ....I want to win every game also ....but that's just not gonna happen! Enjoy the ride!!

I hear you. And I don’t think anyone on this forum goes that overboard. I’ve been a Hawk fan for over 4 decades. I have gone to many bowl games and NCAA regional matches, and with all due respect t to FrankBurns, I think Iowa fans are far more sophisticated than this thread claims.

Anyway, this is my last comment on this, even though Frank Burns is one of my favorite TV characters of all time.

Local CR radio station recently did a poll about what it would take to drive you away from being an Iowa fan.
My answer would be the Iowa fans. Iowa fans are becoming exactly like Nebraska fans, with the exception of at least Nebraska fans still go to the games. They are irrational, obnoxious, and have extremely misguided thoughts about Iowa athletics.
I stopped going to Kinnick years ago after 10+ years of season tickets because the atmosphere in stands. Much better experience watching on TV away from the idiots.
Still go to basketball games, but seeing a portion of the fans supporting the play-by-play announcer with more passion than the athletes is sad.

Have the last few bball games been disappointing? yes. Has Iowa had a successful year to this point? yes. Is Fran an excellent coach? yes! He has taken 4 different schools to the NCAA tournament. You have know idea how difficult that is. 3 of those schools were 1 bid leagues.

Three things:

1) His contract is an albatross of sorts... but I can't blame Fran for that. (Barta sucks)

2) I mean, we probably are going to make the NCAAs so for all the bad things I can say, it is hard to axe a coach that gets you to the dance 4 out of 6 years.

3) Everybody remembers the downward spiral from Davis -> Alford -> Lick and then finally saw Fran "resurrect" the program from its darkest days... and the assumption is that even if we might be able to do better, we could always do worse.

Do worse is right. Look at Illinois? How do you think they feel about the Groce years? Need to really look before you leap. I remember everyone was excited about Lick and Alford, and we know how those two worked out.... in Lick’s case we were sniffing around the right program but just got the wrong guy. Not saying a change of scenery is a bad idea but I do not know if Barta is the guy you want leading the search?

All that said, this board seems to resemble one for a team that was picked to finish at the top of the Big Ten and not the bottom third? This has been a good turnaround for a team that last year lost to both Louisiana and South Dakota State !

We have all spring and summer to disparage this team and the coaches. I am going to hold judgment until after we have Fran back on the sideline and I see how we do in our next 3 to (hopefully) 11 games.

FM a excellent coach? That sure as **** is debatable at this point. His teams lack discipline, bad fundamentals in ball handling, passing, shooting, and rebounding, loaf/lazy about half the time, lack consistency, bad recruiting, etc. Really do not care what he has done in other places. I personally only care about what he is doing at Iowa and it reeks of average at best in his ninth year. Look at what new coaches have done in the last few years and they are blowing by FM's teams. Of course IMO.

I do not think he sucks as a coach either. I just think he allows players to continually do bone-head things and their are no consequences. Starters are going to start unless injured.
