Penn State vs Iowa

Common dude you gotta watch. If you’re a fan of quality college wrestling, you gotta watch. I’m a PSU fan, but I watch Iowa’s other duals (as well as other teams) because I’m just a fan of great wrestling.
It’s easy for me to watch other duals, cause I don’t have an emotional investment and I don’t care who wins. Im not interested in watching my beloved Hawks get steamrolled by a super team. Cruz has wrestled out of his mind recently, but unfortunately that only serves to give Hawk fans hope (which of course is the first step on the path to disappointment). Lilledahl is quite the step up in competition for Joey.
A healthy Ayala had his hands full with Davis last year, a less than healthy one will have me nervous as a cat in a rocking chair factory.
Block hasn’t yet shown that he has the offense or defense to compete with the top 141 pounders, let alone beat them.
Parco vs Van Ness should be a barn burner that could go either way.
Teemer is incredibly athletic, but showed some signs of rust vs tOSU. Kasak is better than the current version of Sasso. Huge test for Teemer.
Nobody at 165 can handle Caliendo’s pace or match his attack rate, except for Messenbrink…….
Kennedy has looked amazing (he hit a wall vs Kharchla), unfortunately I’m predicting a similar result for him vs Haines.
Gabe Arnold is facing the best wrestler he’s ever wrestled in his life. We can attempt to diminish Starocci’s accomplishments or his talents and point out what a d*ckhead he is online, but he’s one of the greatest collegiate wrestlers ever (He’s 106-4, with 2 losses coming by way of medical forfeit). I think Gabe’s going to have an amazing career as a Hawk, but Star may be a bit much for him to handle at this point.
Buchanan will be favored vs Barr, but good lord that kid has been impressive. I imagine the freshmen will put up a fight and give the PSU crowd something to be excited for, but I think Buchanan wins a close one.
Big Ben notched a statement win over Feldman, Kerk is obviously a step up in competition.
In short, I’m predicting a blood bath. I won’t be able to control my fbombs, which will get in me in trouble with Mrs. SoCal (no pics).
It’ll be easier on my family life and my soul if I watch the reply.

The live adrenaline rush is the best part! Win or lose. It's just wrestling.
Yep, enjoy the show. Do I want our Hawks to go into Happy Valley and pull off the epic upset? Absolutely. Do I expect it to happen, not really. Wrestle some close, competitive matches that they can learn from for B10s and NCAAs. I hope we embrace the role of David vs. Goliath and let the fur fly, win or lose.

I have
Lilledahl Dec Cruz 3-0
Ayala Dec Davis 3-3
Bartlett Dec Block 6-3
Van ness Dec Parco 9-3
Teemer Dec Kasak 9-6
Mesenbrink Dec Caliendo 12-6
Haines Dec Kennedy 15-6
Starocci Dec Arnold 18-6
Buchanan Dec Barr 18-9
Kerkvliet Dec Kueter 21-9
Dang. Seeing that written kinda bums me out. In my head it was a closer dual. I hope it’s closer than that tbh
Best case scenario for sure. Based on rankings we are favored to win 4 matches (thanks portal) but I wouldn't be surprised to see us lose one of the matches where we're favored. I also expect bonus points at a handful of weights, which are not represented in these predictions. I could see bonus at 41, 65, 74 and HWT.

Sorry to be so gloomy but I'm just hoping we can keep it close.

Who’s the 4? I was thinking 3 Ayala, Teemer and Buchanon. If we won more than those I’d be ecstatic.

Honestly, I see quite a few toss ups. Somehow, Lillidahl seems to have caught Bartlett’s tentative, cautious style (neither were that way at Sem) and Cruz has been wrestling really well. If Drake wrestles, I’d give him the edge against Davis. I see 149, 157, and 197 as toss ups with Teemer and Buchanan favored, And despite MM handling Caliendo in previous matches, he is too good to take that match for granted.

Sure, it could be a blow out, but it could also be a pretty tight dual.

I’m picking PSU- 20 Iowa-12 (assuming Drake goes and is healthy).

Agree I believe they were just saying who's favored via the rankings
I understand. I guess if it was me making the post I wouldn’t make it out to sound as if were favored in four by saying were ranked higher when one of them is Parco. Who’s ranked lower in other services and lost twice to his opponent soundly. I feel like we’re more likely to win 2 than 4

Im predicting a rather monumental meltdown. I’m considering not watching it, checking out the results, then watching later if it ends up compelling or at all favorable. If Iowa wins 4 matches, it’s a win where I’m sitting. If PSU gets rollin’ it could get ugly in a hurry.
Agreed. I'm not watching it live. I'll read about what happens and then maybe watch parts of it the next day.

I agree and wasn't going to include Parco in my list of favorites but he is higher in at least 1 set of rankings, so I went with it. I'm grasping for anything I can right now to feel better about Friday night.

Is there a path to victory, maybe but it's not a clear path. Is there a path where we get blown out, yes. I'm hoping we land in the middle and keep it respectable.

What’s the over under on this board imploding Friday?
Is this board that dumb to not see what’s possibly coming Friday, possibly the greatest lineup assembled top to bottom, I hate it but I am hoping everyone here is mentally prepared for what could come.
Then there’s the side of me that says Gabe beats Star and t bags him on their mat, BK gets his head right and lets it fly and wins, upset at 125. Iowa wins and TnT takes on the entire crowd.

125= PS big favorite
133= Iowa favored
141= PS heavy favorite
149= PS slight favorite
157= Iowa favored
165= PS heavy favorite
174= PS heavy favorite
184= PS heavy favorite
197= Iowa favored
285= PS heavy favorite
No way this goes chalk. There will be upsets. Question is who gets them and how many.

I’m the same way brother. I get too emotional and my wife (no pics) doesn’t deserve the 2-hours of expletives that would occur regardless of the final outcome.

Didnt gabe do it last yr and duck? Or am i mistaken?
Duck? Are you aware of who Tom and Terry Brands are? Do you think a wrestler tells them when or how they are going to wrestle or not wrestle? Do you honestly think one of their wrestlers can walk up to them and say I don't want to wrestle that guy because I want to duck him and they would just say, "Sure, no problem!"

Again, this is one of the ABSOLUTE DUMBEST narratives out there. I am 100% certain that NO ONE on this planet would want Gabe to wrestle Starocci , more than Gabe himself...

I vote to send out Angelo to piss off PSU and the wrestling community in general.
Like it or not, PSU tends to do better in rematches with Hawks in good-on-good matchups. So if I’m Tom I’d send out Angelo and take my chances that Gabe’s first crack at Starocci catches lightning in a bottle in the postseason.

do you really think gabe is scared to piss off starocci? it’s just a wrestling match.
Since he likely has gone at it pretty hard with Cox, among many others in the Iowa room, I doubt Starocci scares him. Respect is there I'm sure.
