I'm not watching it live because I'll be at my grandaughter's State qualifying (District?) meet and I don't want to try watching it on my phone (no, I don't own a tablet) in a HS gym while trying to watch her wrestle. I'm DVRing it, but probably won't get to watch until Sunday after church because my grandson has his conference meet Saturday. Maybe that will get done early enough that I can watch Saturday night. After 19 hours on the road this week going to wrestling meets I might be too tired though. Most of my grandkids live 2-3 hours away from me so their sporting events are always a pretty good drive away.
I am staying off here until I watch it, and have informed friends and family not to talk about it until then either, even though I don't think I really want to see most of it.

Right. These duals don't get me super worked up. Win or lose you move on. Even B10s aren't do or die for me. Now NCAAs are pins and needles time for me. No room for error. The Bull's quarterfinal loss to Lewis and Spencer's loss to Ramos were step away from the ledge moments for me. There is no "reaching your goals" after NCAA losses. This dual Friday is not the end all no matter what happens.
Yeah, I'm coaching at the HS girls regionals Friday evening in Williamsburg, so I will be missing the dual as well. Was coaching Saturday so I missed that as well. I have 8 season tickets and have only made 1 dual this year bc of coaching.
I have no problem with it. It’s gamesmanship. It worked for Larry Owings. Gable spoke about how it grabbed his attention. Star does it but IMO in a distasteful way. Gabe’s better at it. He’s a big personality — fun and likeable.
If I’m Brands I’m sending Angelo out there now for sure. Gabe stoked the fire. Let is fester and grow with their fan base and Stars head when Angelo takes the mat instead of Gabe. And Gabe can sit back and enjoy it.

I've been told by PSU fan that what happens Friday doesn't matter.
I’ve been a fan since 1990, but I get too worked up. I scream, yell and drop way too many fb*mbs. I recall a very loud motherf*cker!! was dropped when Bo Nickal stuck Sammy Brooks a few years back. Neighbor was a bit concerned. QI’ll watch, but after it’s all said and done.
PS. I’m a bigger Dodger fan than I am a Hawk fan. Other than last season it’s been particularly boisterous at my house in October the past few years. Fortunately we are the PSU of baseball now.
In an ideal world they both would be in the lineup, gotta be a weight deal as both should be able to beat pk
I don't see any chance for upsets from our end. Teemer coming off a layoff with a less than full tank is a concern.
Unfortunately we don't match up great with them. Their weakest weights are 125, 133, and 141. Without Drake that is our 3 weakest weights by far. They have hammers at 149-285, which offsets the strength in Iowa's lineup from 149 up. Good measuring stick for the Hawks though.

The problem with that, is that it can cut both ways. Iowa would have to avoid getting upset at 133, 157 and 197, which are all sadly very winnable matches for PSU, while also grabbing 2 to 3 upsets themselves.....
It would make for an absolutely incredible dual if that happened, but I am selfish. If they actually can pull something like that off, I would VERY MUCH prefer it be done in Mid-March!
Friday truly doesn't matter, but it is an indicator of where guys stand and what is likely to happen in March.
Well, if I was there I would cheer them on. My cheering at home has no bearing on what is happening.
It is just a sport. It's why I'm not watching this particular meet live. I like excellent wrestling, and I've watched PSU throttle other teams. I know what we're in for. It's not enjoyable nor entertaining for me to watch my Hawks get throttled. If it's not fun then why do it?
I'll read about the ugly parts, and then later sit and skip the video to what is worth watching.
What's miserable (in a sports way) is that this is an Iowa team that would normally be contending for a title. What PSU has developed is obscene.

Bartlett is an undefeated returning national finalist. His only two losses since the 2023 semifinals are to Mendez. He might be boring but he's a near-lock against the vast majority of teams. Not sure how he would ever be considered a "weak" weight for Penn State.

Where does Bartlett rank on the team in likelihood to make the finals? Behind 149, 165, 174, 184, and 285 for sure. I say behind Kasak and Barr (he is the real deal imo) as well. That puts him 8th on the team out of 10 to make the finals and he isn't beating a healthy Mendez. That puts him as one of your "weakest" weights and he wrestles a lot of close matches against better opponents as he is no offensive dynamo.

It’s all relative. They have 0 weak weights. But if there’s one upper class men for PSU that’s susceptible to being upset, it’s Bartlett.
This is the best interview I've ever seen of him. Granted, I don't really follow him.
Seems like a really likable guy, completely centered and focused, great attitude.
I know he can be a dick, but this is a side I haven't seen.

What im saying is Iowa in the past will beat psu guys in the dual only to lose to them when it really counts. So if Iowa has to take a bunch of losses now to win in March I’d be ok with it.
We like our guys applies to the HWC too...
