Per CNN Regional Jet crashes in Potomac River

This was a Wichita to DC flight. Given the FAA and Aerospace presence in Wichita it wouldn’t be surprising if there where FAA employees on this flight.

Terrible situation, our US airspace is overcrowded and this helo may have been flying around with no TCAS transponder. If both had them it would have triggered a TCAS alert on both aircraft telling them to immediately move away from each other.

I wouldn’t say overcrowded. The whole network can handle the traffic. It’s small local choke points that are the issue. Many knew it was coming eventually. DCA being probably the biggest red flag of them all. The whole airspace system needs restructured and overhauled but the country can handle the traffic fine. They need to invest and change hiring practices in ATC. (This isn’t DEI, it’s how to properly staff and train) It is not the time to be cheap and gut.

My mind goes about a million directions when hearing of this kind of thing right now.

Lives lost. Meaninglessly. Please. Someone tell me this was an absolutely an accident.

It sounds like it was an accident. A helicopter and a plane collided.

If you are ever in dc, you'll see multiple helicopters flying around non-stop. I'm truly surprised it didn't happen sooner. My condolences to everyone but it appears from video the blackhawk flew into the plane. Some of those pilots fly using night vision goggles which reduces or eliminates depth perception so it reduces response time to take evasive action significantly.

I used to see Marine Force 1 flying every 30 minutes around the Potomac River on 2016-2017.
