So a helicopter hits an airplane? It’s night and dark every night. Somehow we’ve avoided this kind collision in our history of aviation.Tons of helicopters fly around D.C.
It was at night and dark, too.
What was the flight in the 80s that crashed in to the Potomac? Sad deal. Hope they can save as many as possible.
Air Florida flight 90 . He sucked up snow and ice using his reverse thrusters, degraded take off speed and crashed into the water near the 14th street bridge. What was the flight in the 80s that crashed in to the Potomac? Sad deal. Hope they can save as many as possible.

That video does not look good…not a controlled water landingTo me I don’t think there was much the AA pilots could do looking at that video. That helicopter just flew into them pretty damn fast and they were at 300 feet.
Air Florida. Icing conditions on the wings. Very avoidable if I recall correctly. What was the flight in the 80s that crashed in to the Potomac? Sad deal. Hope they can save as many as possible.
DCA has always freaked me out with all of the local air traffic. Our travel agency recently switched to United as their preferred airline, so there’s always a Dulles option.I wouldn’t say overcrowded. The whole network can handle the traffic. It’s small local choke points that are the issue. Many knew it was coming eventually. DCA being probably the biggest red flag of them all. The whole airspace system needs restructured and overhauled but the country can handle the traffic fine. They need to invest and change hiring practices It is not the time to be cheap and gut.
What's special about today?Accidents happen. I get that.
How the **** does this happen today?
It was observed. Controlled. Communicated.Exactly...it was avoided a few billion times, it was only a matter of time before an accident hit.
Or bwi.DCA has always freaked me out with all of the local air traffic. Our travel agency recently switched to United as their preferred airline, so there’s always a Dulles option.
People make a big deal about the car travel time, but I really don’t mind BWI.Or bwi.
If you have to ask that. Then you already know. What's special about today?
I think he is getting at its 2025 and we have all this tech and years of experience around that area. What's special about today?
It was observed. Controlled. Communicated.
An accident?
Life comes at you fast, Pete. Maybe talk to other media outlets, too.
CNN is reporting the water temperature is 42 degrees.
Ya know? The amount “worst of the worst” scenarios I’ve imagined have come to fruition over the last few years.I supposed we'll have to wait and see.
Death can occur between 30-90 minutes in that temp water.CNN is reporting the water temperature is 42 degrees.
I remember that one. Harrowing video of the rescues.Air Florida Flight 90 - Wikipedia

As does every single flyer roaming that particular area.I used to see Marine Force 1 flying every 30 minutes around the Potomac River on 2016-2017.
That was my thought. Would assume helicopter pilot at faultI assume the jet has the right of way in the sky
what the heck was the helicopter doing right in the landing airspace of the airport??
It's at night, and the pilot could have picked up the wrong plane in the sky when the tower was trying to direct him to go behind. It was observed. Controlled. Communicated.
An accident?
ATC is largely the first place to look on an accident like this.To me I don’t think there was much the AA pilots could do looking at that video. That helicopter just flew into them pretty damn fast and they were at 300 feet.
I remember the movie that used real footage for parts of it.I remember that one. Harrowing video of the rescues.

CRJ is on final, heli confirms visual and instructed to go behind. Definitely not CRJ fault and not a damn thing they could do about the other pilot’s mistake. (ATC probably should have altered heli altitude too). Freaking tragedy. That was my thought. Would assume helicopter pilot at fault
That is correct with the jet having the right away but at that altitude the ATC is giving the instructions. Not saying the pilots aren’t responsible for not scanning for collisions but I suspect the ATC and on board traffic collision instruments failed.I assume the jet has the right of way in the sky

For as long as they've been in the cold river, I'm not sure we're going to get any good news.CNN just said per a source there are fatalities confirmed, and that no survivors have been pulled from the water.
Going to tell you right now, they didn’t fail. 😑 They don’t.That is correct with the jet having the right away but at that altitude the ATC is giving the instructions. omg.
The 4 needing med attention were search personal. Water is cold.
