Pinch Me

If I had a chance to talk to the color commentator... Yes, we get it, Iowa needs to work on their defense. You don't need to say it on every possession. But what about UNC? They just gave up 93 points (which could have easily been over 100 if Iowa did not start to put on the brakes with 2 minutes left). Why no criticism of their defense. With all those great athletes, why was Iowa getting so many wide open looks beyond the arc?

Their bigs (and i mean really bigs) were camped out in the paint with Garza leaving our shooters on the perimeter nearly unguarded.

They did this and they still have a lot of room to get better. Although, we can't expect them to hit 17 three's every night.
That may be, but we do have the shooters to do that, and they all showed up tonight.

On top of that, when Carolina made their run in the 2nd half, we had about a half dozen 3's go 1/2 way down and come out. I don't know how many 3's we shot, but there were only about three of them that had no chance.

Our good perimeter players knew they would have to be ready tonight, and nobody should be surprised that they were. I don't remember Connor taking a single shot, but he played well too.

4 true closers in Jobo, CJ, Weis, and Garza. Any game that is close late in the game I would take the Hawks.

I have never seen a college offense execute that well.

it truly doesn’t feel real that they’re ranked 3rd in the country and by god they might deserve it

Maybe I'm just a home but I thought for most of the game the announcers seemed to be always talking about how good NC was but then the last couple of minutes had to say a few nice things about Iowa?

Difference is coming into the game NC as a team was shooting 40% overall and 27% from three. I think they shot around 47% overall vs Iowa and 40% from three. So Iowa defense was a nice tonic for UNC offense. Too many times Iowa guys seem to concede the blow by and just give up on their assignment.

UNC had the challenge of defending Garza who came into the game shooting around 72 percent from field and 60% from three. They did take away a lot of Garza's offense. Garza still was
mvp because he drew the double teams and attention that made all the 3point shots possible. Garza also had 14 rebounds and 4 blocks....he definitely was the hardest worker on the court.

It really doesn’t.
When was the last time Iowa had an insane amount of national hype in any sport, and followed it up in a confirming and convincing win against another top ranked opponent? It seems we always lose those games where we say “this is it, this is where we make our mark”.

Wrestling, just last year. They beat defending National Champion Penn State head to head, and won the Big Ten Tournament. They would have rolled to a National Title in U.S Bank Stadium had it been held. Thanks Covid! :!×/*.,#!\

It's been quite a drought even though they've always been ranked fairly high.
