Planning March schedule. Is NIT still possible?

Not giving up on NCAA yet.

Oh that's right. We had our deal about Iowa making the NCAA tournament or not.

Poor bastard, you're gonna have to either stop posting or only make posts in concert with all the other pessimists of Iowa athletics from March until the start of football.

That's gonna suck for you.

Losing to Michigan and Maryland at home ends any NCAA hopes. They'd probably have to take 2/3 from the remaining Illinois and Wisconsin games plus probably beat Michigan State and Indiana on the road to have any chance.

In case anyone cares, the NIT changed a bit this year. The Big Ten will award 2 auto-bids to the NIT and it is solely based on the NET rankings. The 2 highest NET ranked teams that don't make the NCAA's get the auto bid. As of today, that would clearly be Iowa and Ohio State.

I guess Wisconsin parlayed NIT to a good year this year. Fran just can't coach better than winning 50 percent of his B1G games.....lack of defense always going to mean Fran teams can never make an ncaa run.

So hopes not gone then?

This team probably goes 0-5 against Illinois, Wisconsin, MSU, and Indiana when they probably need to go 4-1 to get back into it. That's not counting games where losing is not an option against Minnesota, Penn State, Michigan, and Maryland coming up.

Right, and that doesn't seem likely. Still zero quad 1 wins. NIT is a maybe, I guess, but I've written off any shot at an NCAA invite unless this team unexpectedly goes on a real tear.

We lost at home to Mary Land. Our net is gonna be bye bye. I had hope after the Minny win. But tonight was beyond regression.

I care about the players getting to reach a mile stone for themselves or young players developing but not sure why anyone would be trying to hang on to expectations for this years roster

Yeah we took a huge fall in KenPom from the game. All the way down to #47 from #46...
Usually those 2 metrics are fairly correlated.

I think we can get an NIT slot, but we won‘t make their final 4, so would one and done in the NCAA tourney be much of a difference?

I care...

I hope the Hawks can make the NIT. Better than nothing in a really down year.

Zero Quad 1 wins (Minnesota and Seton Hall have to be close? Right?)

Two horrible losses at home to Michigan and Maryland might be the nail in the coffin.

I would like our freshman to get more games.

Just being a wiseguy on the above post with the no one cares gif. Props to you for still being excited!

I honestly hope they don’t qualify for the NIT.
Let this be it for Fran. Time to start over.

Normally, no Sweet 16s and a NIT season would at least put a coach on the hot seat.

Fran should call Lickliter every day and thank him for using liquid nitrogen on his chair before he was asked to leave.

Seton Hall is in the 60s and Minnesota around 95 . So no, not even close to a Quad1 win right now.

Yeah, Nebraska is at 47 so really they are the closest. Seton Hall is #70 this morning and play at Marquette so a chance to move up.
