I didn't mind plugging in Kingsbury for a few minutes but Dix and Sandfort were not doing much of anything.
Even though he did not play well, Fran should have stuck with Bowen more.

Not his best, no doubt but he was playing with a short-hand tonight. Thin bench, some suspect calls at critical times, and 3rd game in 6 games against high-quality opponents.
Bowen wasn't good again. His greatest strength right now is turning it over. He's not yet ready to be a B1G level point guard.
Actually IMO, FM has screwed up the last two games as he went way too long with starters versus ISU and it cost us tonight because the starters were tired.
Bowen was so-so. Definitely didn't have good game but I think you are wrong--he's exactly the type of PG you play as Freshman so that by end of season you have a potential star or at least a much improved player.
This point may have some merit. I thought in particular Rebraca seemed tired.
And when did Ulis get hurt - I didn't hear - practice or more of a lagging, ongoing injury?

There were a lot of turnovers, Saucy had 4 and we had 15 total, but yeah Bowen showed his inexperience. But we needed anyone to breakdown the Defense in the last ten minutes especially and he barely played. Guys like Dix and Sandfort weren't doing anything, so just stick with the kid.
Yep. I’m a big Fran fan but coaching was our downfall. Playing two really inexperienced freshman together in the 2nd half and then getting the T.
Yeah I couldn’t believe just under 10 min in a dog fight big 10 game and fran had kingsbury who hasn’t played a meaningful minute before tonight. Dix who has played sparingly and sandfort who is in a giant shooting slump and below avg defender. He waited a possession or 2 too late to call a timeout. This to me was as costly as the T.
The deal with Bowen is that now he needs to be allowed to cost some games before can win some at the end of the year.

Incredible performances by Connor and Pmac. More dreadful shooting from 3 at 25%. Fran needs to tell Sandfort to take shots in the flow of the offense and stop jacking up early shot clock 3's. Sandfort has more to his game than just 3's and Fran needs to get him inside the arc. Kingsbury can shoot it so I am not sure what is keeping Fran from getting him a few minutes. He didn't embarrass himself defensively and made good decisions.

iowa Goes from a 6 point lead , to a 3 point deficit with a horrifically small lineup, that includes the sandfort who is simply unplayable right now, plus, Kingsbury AND Dix, who both have virtually no game time
this is where the game went from Iowa “win %” up, to Iowa win% down and is 100% on Fran and another chapter in Frans bizarre game coaching rotations.

Kingsbury did nothing to embarrass himself. Hit a three and then passed on a couple of looks. Stout kid. Josh O. should have stolen a 2-3 minutes in each half for Rebracca. Dix will be a player. Bowen needs to pull up and not try to take it to the rim. Not one of Fran’s better games from his end. Two really bad defensive lapses late in the game really hurt. Gutty performance by the players.
Mulvey seems to be unplayable. Josh O is a mystery. He plays in some games and then doesn't even need to wear basketball shoes for some games.
Had Fran benched him and played anyone that could have gone only 1-7 instead of 0-7 Iowa wins the game and nobody is bitching.

also, it’s not just me, it’s everyone, including the announcers who made comment, can tell he’s clearly pressing, trying to do too much, and forcing shots, taking quick ill advised shots, (maybe you missed that ?) with the result being is that right now he hurts the team with every minute played.
fran would be better to sit him for a few games, let him watch, let him relieve pressure, play him when he’s not expected to carry the team,
for example, there is no way your worst statistical shooter should be shooting it at a rate higher than anyone on the team not named Murray. put the pistol in the holster and quit forcing shots would be an appropriate message.

Yeah, his confidence was clearly at a low point after being benched for TOs against ISU.
When you're focusing on not turning the ball over against grabbing defenses instead of attacking you usually just end up trurning it over.
You have to attack the space or the body and go by the defender before they react and not hesitate trying to protect the ball.
This is why I kept harping on Perkins not being a pg at the start of the season. Hes clearly not a good enough ball handler to go against big10 1s.
There was time to get Bowen and Ulis ready and it was squandered.

Starting Perk at the 1 and Sandfort at the 2 was not a productive use of time playing 2 guys out of position.
Perhaps, given the way Sandfort has been shooting,.. However, had Payton been able to pick it up where he left off from last season I think you'd be more open to the pairing,.. Also, I think Sandfort making shots would provide interior opportunities for Tony.
I just dont think Tony can break down 1s regularly in the big10 and getting to the basket is his game.
Hes better at the two where guys are a little taller and he can them on his hip easier. Once he gets a guy on his hip it doesn't matter how big they are hes going to get where he wants to.
And I don't think Payton can take anyone to basketball at the 2.
Payton is perfect as first guy off the bench for the 3 or 4. Although Connor is taking that role now.
