PSU's "secret"

at no point in this debate have you understood the point or even addressed reality.

do you think it is possible to eat past being full? if i forced myself to eat 3 lbs of venison and 5 lbs of potatoes a day, would i gain weight?
You haven't listened to what I'm saying
Your body is going to tell you to stop and your gonna end up diabetic if you eat that many potatoes
I have this vision that you are already overweight and don't want to have an open mind on how you could have healthy, lean, functional body.
And get the grains out of your diet and you'll be a lot better off

still missing the point lol.

answer this question: is it physically possible to gain weight while eating only whole foods?

I came across this today just trying to gain knowledge on the subject myself. That being weight cutting.

Of course there's no true "secret" but I have a feeling this is one thing that differentiates Iowa and PSU.

How many times have you seen a PSU guy find a way to win late in the third? Those guys hardly ever looked gassed.

Versus how many times an Iowa guy runs out of gas and loses late in the third? Or at least looks extremely gassed.

You read this article and I honestly think it explains some of the reason.

Thoughts?
Good thing you broke the case wide-open. Not sure how we finished number #1 2 out of the last 3 years without this weight management information.

Find a local farmer and buy a quarter or half a beef from him. Same can be done with a hog. Normally quite a bit less than the grocery store. Raise a garden and support your local FFA by buying fruit from them. Keep an eye on the grocery store ads. I see people spending $15-$20 on food in a convenience store for absolute garbage. I don't have that issue, so I have money to spend on the right things.
You don't understand, I do that already. My family used to butcher their own FWIW or get the beef or pork from a farmer and butcher it. Many people might not be able to foot that bill though.

I don't know what to tell you. I prioritize how I spend my money. Not saying this is you, but a lot of people have no problem buying beer, booze, pop and that sort of stuff but then complain they can't afford healthy foods.

I eat until I'm full and satisfied
That is an important part of this discussion that will never be resolved. So far every (rational) person will probably agree to:

1. Calories in versus calories out determines weight management regardless of whether said calories are clean or processed crap.

2. Clean foods in general are likely to be less calorie dense than processed food so you are more likely to feel full eating the same amount of “clean” calories than “processed” calories.

3. Eating until feeling full can never be objective and will always differ for individuals for a variety of reasons.

Personally, I know I over eat at night watching tv even as I don’t feel full (satisfied). Not that it’s important to this part of the argument, it is usually clean foods such as almonds, raisins, and plain popcorn without any garbage additives, I understand that I do that out of habit growing up with a family that always snacked while watching tv as well as trying to fill some voids in my life with food. I got away with that habit in terms of weight management until my fifties between a good metabolism and lots of cycling, but now in my retirement it keeps me 10-15 pounds overweight.

It would be extremely hard to do
By my personal experience it doesn't happen
I don't care how many calories I eat
I eat until I'm full and satisfied
Come on man. What an absolutely obtuse answer. You don’t really believe that your own experience is the same for every person and body on this planet, do you?

Usain bolt eats McDonald’s and is the fastest man of all time

Prime Kobe ate pepperoni pizza and grape soda as a pregame meal

Mayweather’s diet was TRASH. Twizzlers, Top Ramen, lots of meals with gravy.

lol but that's the thing. he insisted over and over that this is not true and that's where this whole thing started

i feel like i'm going insane because i've literally done what he says is impossible. it was hard and i had to keep eating when i was full, but i put on weight and muscle eating nothing but whole foods. lots of rice, potatoes, and oatmeal for carbs, large serving of veggies with every meal, and tons of lean meat and eggs.

in short he's confusing the why for the how.
I’m not sure the above mentioned food would even count as clean in the book of poster in question. Lol

Depending on what is meant by 'calories out', the in vs out argument is not quite so simple. 2 foods of equal caloric content can take quite different amounts of energy to digest and absorb, yielding different net results. Pretty sure processed foods, on average, do often take less energy to digest/absorb.

Also, though admittedly not really relevant to this debate, there is some interesting research showing that/why exercise is often less efficient for weight loss than diet. The body often compensates for intense/regular exercise (burning more calories) by reducing resting metabolic rate (burning less calories). So less bang for the buck from exercise. Of course, exercise is great for plenty of other reasons.

Sorry, I should have let the yawning sloth be the end of this thread.

Sigh, uffda and everything in between.
These are the conversations that I wish could be face to face. Not to get mad at each other. Just easier to better explain what I'm saying.
You guys should FaceTime each other.
