- Uthoff is incredible. Enjoy this year while we can and enjoy watching him play. Much like Aaron White, just a fun guy to watch.

- If Gesell continues to play at or near this level we are going to be doing special things this year.

- Dom Uhl is becoming a player before our very eyes. 10 and 8 tonight along with very solid D. He is also shooting a team best 48% from three.

- I think Clemmons was still obviously bothered by his injury. Not 100%. Glad we have a week + off.

- Baer didn't put up big stats tonight, but he brings so much energy to the floor. Does all the little things.

- Wagner had a small appearance and although he is raw, he is very active defensively. That is a great sign.

- I think this might be the best shooting team I can recall. I thought tonight it felt like they had a bad night. Yet still shot 44% from the floor. And that felt like a bad night.

I'll add another - Nebrasketball and their fans suck! On their site all they can talk about concerning Iowa is the home poor attendance and supposed "ugliness" of Iowa's team. Well, a mid-week night game against the scum of the league doesn't really excite the fanbase. Too bad Hawks only get to play these losers once during regular season. I hope Tim Miles remains the fusker coach for a long time.

Agree with every single point. I thought we'd be a bubble team this year. Not anymore. We'll still have a slump where when we lose 3 of 4 or something like that but we'll be a solid tourny team this year.

Uthoff, Jok, Gesell are all capable of scoring in double
figures every game. This gives the Hawkeyes a very
balanced attack. With Uhl and Baer giving Iowa a
scoring punch off the bench. This Hawkeye team
has good chemistry and good coaching and should have
a great season.

Thoughts. Random.

Not our best game but we won. Kudos to Gesell and Uthoff, great job!

Regular season is half over! Hard to imagine that.

Nine day layoff and then back to work. We'll be a big target at Michigan State.

a Laettner/Hurley type of performance from JU and MG......very nice to see.

I noticed Jok doing some pouting on missed shots or turnovers and not getting back on defense right away. Does he do this much? I have watched a lot of the games and don't recall seeing it, but it looked bad tonight.

Miles seems to no longer own Fran. He has better talent than how his team plays...which is on him.

Appreciate those of us that could make it ... very disappointing consider the last 2 games.

Crowd had a good time when Tim...would yell out things to his players...like "Andrew...hustle". da.

Sapp definitely not 100%.

We won.

OH...Woody's bobblehead is a perfect likeness.

I left with 27 secs to go cause I had to pee...prostate cancer does that to you.

At one point in the 2nd half..one of our players..pouted...:p

that's all I got.

Good post srams and others.....Gesell mentioned on the post game that Nebby played really tough D tonight and it showed. Fran and Jess mentioned there was no energy to start the game and that showed as well. Jess said when you play PU who is so big and physical, that'll do it zapping your energy. I get that....really tough game in Mackey. We take these kids for granted with their energy levels night in and night out. Grind it out sometimes.

Also loved the stat and didn't realize just how well this team does not to turn the ball over. Something like 6 or 7 per game and I think they only had 7 tonight. Thank you Mike and Sapp...excellent Guard play is correct by others. What a great stat to be good at.

Agree with Dom's game getting better and better. Loved it when he was the off guard bringing the ball up the court. His handles are very good, he's a talent.

Good win for the Hawks. Maybe it's just me, but it felt like the boys kind of just went through the motions this game. Great that they won but it seemed like super ho hum effort.

I look forward to when we play on the road because it seems we come in with a chip on our shoulder. At home I don't get that feeling.

Hopefully that changes moving forward when fans start bringing more excitement as well

We needed a win to consolidate the upset at Purdon't. Not our best game, but mission accomplished.

Nine days is a long mid-season lay off, but it is what it is. Let's get Sapp healthy and sweep Sparty. Iowa has proven they can play with anyone, in any environment. Give us 3 zebras with a little integrity, and we have a decent shot.

Yeah but the real season is just starting. This is when things get fun and everybody gets dialed in on hoops.

Yes, great transition teams have guys who can A, rebound and outlet pass but B, guys who can grab the board and go.

You can see Dom growing in confidence. For a second after the rebound he looked for Gessel who was not open and then you could tell he realized, wait, I can do this, pushed the ball up court very quickly and Baer got a good transition look off it. Dom might be the fastest guy on the team when he decides to run.

This team can take an even higher level if Dom starts to play with confidence.

I now look forward to he and Baer coming off the bench, they make things happen.

This group used to lose allot of games like this against bad teams like Nebraska and NW when there wasn't allot to get excited about. Now they play their C game and still win comfortably.

MG needs to maintain this consistency. Jok is the second-leading scorer this season but he's a year away from being the player he can be. And I certainly don't think it's for want of trying. He's still finding that balance of what he can do vs what he should do.

We need Sapp back at full strength for D and spacing the O.

Baer had a little bit of a let down this game but certainly not Uhl. He and Jok will lead next year's team.

What can you say about JU? It will be interesting to see what he does vs MSU the second time around. Hope he's pounding away the calories. Don't want him any skinnier.

I feel like Dom could be a more athletic version of Uthoff but he's still kinda new to the game... He doesn't have the swagger that JU has. He's lacking that "feel for the game" that can only be gained with experience. He's only a sophomore though and JU didn't put up great stats at that age either.

When I say athletic, I'm mostly talking about lateral movement. JU is a superior athlete. If you gave Uthoff's quick shot and feel to Dom, I'd feel a whole lot better about the next 2 years of Iowa BBall... :)

Good win Hawks. I'm rather surprised the scoring difference wasn't more. Got a great one in Uthoff.

A few comments...

When your team has as many blocks as turnovers...that usually has a happy ending.

MG played another great game...assists of course, but I liked to see him make so many freethrows. I really hope he continues to have a knock out year leading this team. He deserves it. His first double-double!

Uthoff seems to be a combo of Dirk Nowitzke and Jack Sikma...but with a defensive game and heart, plus more mobility. He is now getting a reputation for blocking shots...other teams are aware of this and it bothers them, even if he doesn't block them. No one wants to have their shot blocked...and players tend to stay clear of such players, even if unconsciously.

Uhl really seems to be a player waiting to hatch...he wants to shoot, seems good at it, and is a tough match up. I wonder if he is going to bleed minutes from Jok...when Jok is pouting or not interested...which seemed to be the case at times last night?

Baer had a good game, hiding, and sneaking about...he is an ignitor...and the good news is...he doesn't often hurt the team...few bone-headed plays in him. Coaches learn to love those guys off the bench.

Sapp was hurt...but his game is not scoring or igniting much. Defense, spacing, rebounding...he is another guy who deserves a great final season to reward his resilience and hard work. Doesn't dazzle...but great to have on the team. He plays hard even when he isn't the center of attention.

Woodie had some nice plays, one off the glass. He does plug up the middle and make things difficult for the other team to move about the lane.

Iowa did sputter a bit but the bottom line is this...any time you can come back to win by over 10 points...after being behind at the beginning 10-0 is a great game, even against a team like Nebraska at home. This was a sneaky game...coming after MSU and Purdue wins...test passed. Now...heal up for MSU...keep on a roll...

Good, solid win after two emotional victories. Best Fran team yet, can start thinking about conference championship this year.

Very excited for Uhl down the road. The way Fran gushes over him tells me we might be in for a real treat throughout the rest of his career.

Jok can get so careless sometimes. It's like he takes to much for granted. It's frustrating to watch.

How about that jump over the first row of courtside fans? He probably won't do that again at Carver - no landing area within jumping distance. And was it just me, or did BOTH of Jok's feet end up in that guy's crotch? Must have ironballs - didn't look like it phased the fan.

Think the hangover from 2 big wins and Sapp being slowed by the ding he had at PD allowed NE to get the 10pt spot before IA came to play.

My only complaint is that JU should be shooting all the FT's at the end. He would have had over 30 points and has a legitimate shot at being an All American. That would be great publicity for the program.

JU and mike were great but I too believe we are seeing the emergence of Uhl. He is becoming so much more aggressive and looking for his shot plus we are getting a sample of the handles he has. Kid is going to be a great one.

I agree with this. That is when you know you have a good team is when you can win with you "c" game on a off night. We have shown we can play with anyone on a good night.

UHL...yepper...Fran knows a thing or two. His quickness from end to end is remarkable....and wasn't that long ago some were concerned about the size of Woody's backup. The quickness of some of our future 4's is scary. The other thing with UHL ... his confidence level is at a all time high .. Fran & staff have done a great job bringing him along.

One thing for certain. We can't play this way at MSU and expect a W. Izzo will have his team on fire after challenging their manhood in the loss. You know the zebras will be against us up there. We can expect them to pound the post early and often. It will be emotional for them getting DV back.

If we play hard that's about all we should expect. A W would be gravy. Either way we still are in position for a very solid season. I like our chances against Purdue at home. If we get that W and win the games we should, we will have a nice seed in the tourney. If we keep improving (especially the bench) it could be a special year.

Getting their injured star back isn't always a wonderful experience...won't be the same player...others have learned to play without him...good time to knock them off and sweep them...rest up and come out on fire, Iowa.

This was a trap game except we were at home. By far not our best performance.

-Ni, you do have some talent over there.

Miles seems to be recruiting well outside of getting a big man. His Xs and Os have some a little pessimistic but we'll see. It's a young team, if they can get to 6 conference wins I think that's the ceiling

One thing that was very obvious last night is that Nebraska players passed up taking many shots around the basket because they were fearful of Uthoff blocking their shot. That stat does not show up in the box score, but it is very obvious.

You do realize Iowa could play really well and still lose? This was a perfectly fine game to be a bit flat. It's impossible to be at Level 10 on the emotion meter for every game. Izzo will have his team on fire. Hawks will show up. A win would be special.

Dodger's right: You can't play your best game every night. But what you can do, and must do if you want to win the league, is beat the teams you should beat, especially at home. And that's precisely what Iowa did last night. Now it's time to rest up, get Wagner, Williams, and the other deep reserves lots of work over the 9-day layoff and gear up for a battle in East Lansing. As you probably know, Iowa hasn't won there since 1993. That seems about long enough. Let's hope the Hawkeyes go up there and continue to play like men and show Sparty that Valentine or no Valentine, Iowa takes no prisoners.

Yep. Uthoff was all over the place defensively and certainly made shooters think twice, and thus hesitate, before putting the ball up.
