Quick Postgame Thoughts

I wonder...when it last happened that MSU was swept in two games of conference play. Long time, I would guess...

Hopefully Iowa can lay it on them...

A couple weeks ago I was of the opinion that the team would go as far as Uthoff could carry them. Jok, as a supporting actor, has been OK, but reverts to sulking and disappearing at times. After the last 3 games, I am more confident we can win without significant contributions from Jok and sub 20 point performances by Uthoff.

Gesell, Uhl, and Baer give us 3 solid scoring options who can step up if needed or take advantage of extra attention paid to Uthoff. Clemmons and Woodbury likely won't blow up, but can be counted on for 8-10 points each.

I would say the beginning, or the first five minutes we were flat. Down by 10. I would say the last 35 minutes we dominated by 21. Once they woke up there was very little trouble in controlling the game

Jok can get so careless sometimes. It's like he takes to much for granted. It's frustrating to watch.

My biggest complaint is that it appears Peter doesn't like to play defense very much. He will gamble to get steals but getting into a proper stance and moving his feet isn't a strong suit.

Some games the ball just doesn't seem to bounce right for Pete. His shot is just a bit off and he loses his dribble at times. Last night was one of those. The last three years, we've had a player step up and make the first team All Big Ten team (I'm including Uthoff this year). I thought Pete would be the guy carrying the Hawks next year, and he still might. But unless he gains some consistency, it won't happen. The emergence of Uhl is definitely encouraging though. Looks like he is finally getting it, but has barely scratched the surface of what he might become.

I think Pete works really hard and gives it his all. That attempted save yesterday where he jumped into the stands is just one example of his commitment to improving. He still gets down on himself when he makes mistakes but he has definitely improved on O and certainly on D. There will be games this year where he will be called upon to carry the team by Fran without hesitation. That said, I think Uhl's and Baer's improvement give Jok and JU room to do their damage on the offensive end.

Jok averages 1 turnover per game ... yet is 4th on the team in minutes.. I guess his carelessness doesn't equate.
His handles are poor. The good thing is that he appears to know this so after he tries to drive and turns a ball over once or twice, he usually learns and stops doing that for the rest of the game, and settles for jump shots which he is very good at doing.

Jok has some flaws...but he can get his shot off, like Uthoff...

He just seems to drift a bit with his intensity, at times...

Assuming he stays healthy, next year should be fun to watch...

Jok had 1 turnover in each of the 3 B1G games played...in 92 minutes of being on the floor. That's a single turnover every 30 minutes..that is outstanding concentration & ball control for a shooting guard / small forward. If he had handles of a point guard he would be a point guard. His ball catch is outstanding...that's what you look for in a shooter.

I hope he continues to work on his penetration...improve that & you have a multi dimensional offensive weapon.

I chuckled but this is very true.

Jok's only fault is he tries to be too aggressive when driving to the hoop and that is where I think his loose handles come into play a bit. But he is a great scorer and shooter and obviously careful with the basketball.

Jok's defense has also improved immensely since his freshman year.
