Quote from Foster about his decision

From Twitter..

"It was weird. My family is Iowa fans. I'm an Iowa fan, personally. But I just felt like I had a better chance at success at Iowa State".

Comment from Hassel I believe was "That's quite an indictment of Fran McCaffery".

This was Tweeted by Chris Hassel per an interview Foster had with Matthew Bain of the DSM.

I guess the trajectory of the programs is somewhat subjective as ISU hasn't fared better than Iowa in the tourney the past few years unless post-Niang's team.

My two-cents is that kids look at the talent or lack thereof on the roster and don't see Iowa ever being better than a bubble team and cannon fodder for any 2nd round opponent. Maybe this is me projecting my personal views to others :) but man, Fran is making recruiting look like breaking dependence on fossil fuels.
Sorry you can’t say you are an Iowa fan and pick isu you give up your fan card.

my god...how bad does it have to be for someone who calls themselves an Iowa fan....to select ISU. Indictment of Fran indeed.

As I said before...two of his kids on the roster (one arguably getting too much playing time). This will not end well.

I didn't see it coming as life just works out that way sometimes but I think we may have a perfect storming coming in both the football and basketball sides. Both programs seem on the decline with nepotism playing a role in both. Barta's total incompetence in running this athletic department may finally come to a head. It may not work out that way too but signs point in that direction at the moment.

The football team is in the top 25, finished in the top 25 last year... And is tied for 4th most wins out of B1G teams the last 5 years. Tied for 15 most wins out of all Power 5 teams the last 5 years.

Stop trying to lump them in with the basketball program.

Well, this gets a little off topic on the basketball board but I think if we have a rough stretch ahead in football too. We get respect in the polls because of Parker's defense. Minnesota comes to town as one of the hottest teams in the country. At Illinois seems no picnic either with Lovie at least having them playing much better. And then we finish at Nebraska where anything can happen even though not sold on Frost getting them over the hump. Looking at losing fairly big numbers and potentially one or both tackles to the NFL and next year looks like a rebuilding season.

Hard to look at our situation in both sports with aging coaching staffs and see us as competitive moving forward.

Illinois is a home game

Tougher schedule with a new quarterback that has no experience because he won't be given any opportunity, behind an O-line that will likely be as bad or worse. Smells like NY6 bowl to me!!

I for one am not particularly impressed with FM and the job he has done at Iowa

It's HOW they lost the game. Iowa has not been disgraced like that at home in a long, long time. Let's stop trying to sugar coat the product on the court ... That was Harlem Globetrotters/Washington Generals bad ...

you mean since last March on Senior day?

Uh, this performance was just a tad more atrocious than losing to Rutgers at home on senior day ... Ever notice a pattern here ... opposing teams have record-shooting nights against the Hawks? It's because we don't play defense ... at all ... I wanted to give Fran the benefit of the doubt ... but seeing the talent on the court last night ... I no longer can find excuses for keeping Fran as our coach after this season ... We didn't look like a Power 5 team. We looked more like Grandview ...

No point in arguing with Wade.

You cant have credentials until you have done it. You can't do it until someone allows you to do it. This wasn't about if it has worked out but it was a strong hire on paper. Jim Leonard had less credentials as Wisky d-coordinator. That worked out. Also he actually was coveted but the Texans to be their online coach when he came to Iowa. So your statement is false they would have hired him as o-line coach some place else and still probably would.

I'm not thoroughly familiar with the backgrounds but I would be if I were doing the hiring. Off the top of my head, I would think:

One went from a walk-on to the WI hall of fame and played in the NFL for 10 years. The other got a scolly from his dad, had a good college career and a cup of coffee in the NFL.

One had a quick and significant impact as position coach. The other had little impact on his position, and had no impact, even with his dad, in influencing the actions of another inept OC.

One is regarded as highly knowledgeable, the other has shown no such trait. It isn't everything, by any means, but my speculation is that they are separated by at least 25 points of IQ.

This is the wrong board for this discussion but if you dont think that Ferentz was more qualified by a long shot than Leonard for his promotion I dont know what to tell you. I'm also not sure what longer NFL career has to do with anything.
