Ramos vs. Brewer at Who's #1

I don't see this match being very competitive if tony wrestles aggresive; which I would hope he would since he's got nothing to lose.

This is Tony all day. Brewer gets funky when guys get out of position. Tony doesn't get out of position.

That loss is not going to sit well with Tony. Brewer was even making fun of Tony a bit in the interview. He kind of disrespected Tony. I think that will eat Tony up. It will be interesting to see what happens if these 2 ever wrestle again.

When Tony was a Hawk, I never cared for the stare-down baloney. I thought it was pretty hilarious that Brewer ribbed him about it afterward. If you're going to attempt to get inside your opponent's head with something as ridiculous as a WWE-style stare-down before every match, you'd better be prepared for opponents to make some fun of it. Worked like a charm against Dennis, too. . . . Dan just stood there and smiled at him, and then proceeded to take him apart at the Trials.

Cheesy tactics like stare-downs might have some effect at lower levels where opponents might be more easily psyched out, but at the higher levels, tactics like that are just dumb and ineffective, IMO. I think Tony looks silly as he stares down his opponent -- and even sillier when he gets dominated after doing so. Time to let it go and just let your wrestling do the communicating.

Remember, Tony also got wrecked by Colon, but it turned out pretty well for Ramos when it mattered later on. I would put this loss at a similar significance level. Plus, he looked considerably undersized and unprepared. In the end, I don't think it matters anyway. (Just ask Caldwell and the Metcalf haters about the importance of exhibition matches;)) Ramos is still focused on 57kg and Brewer would have to chop off a leg to get down to 57kg!

Maybe Tony was so overcome by the US Ryder Cup win that he was emotionally spent for his match....
I don't know if he was, but I was after a long day of bright sun, several tall $11 Budweisers and some ass-kicking of the Euro's! USA! USA! USA!

Ryder Cup bucket list item = Checked off (It was awesome - the fact that we won and Reed took down Rory and Phil staying with Sergio playing out of his gourd just made it all that much sweeter)

That's awesome you got to go! Were you the guy who screamed "Yabba dabba do" after every tee shot? I listened to the matches on the Ryder cup website while at work on Friday and you could hear some pretty good heckling going on.

Even better, were you the guy that won $100 by making a putt after heckling the European golfers?

Tony just got caught against Colon. Brewer straight up manhandled him.

23sofar,

Is that you? The guy actually even did a TV interview on ESPN after. Talk about 15 mins of fame!

Not quite how I remember it. Colon "manhandled" Ramos significantly in that match to the point where I started to question if they were in the same weight class. Colon definitely appeared to have a huge strength advantage.

Sorry for the very poor video quality:

(sorry about the novel and to hijack the thread with golf news but pretty pumped still a day later............)

Nah, I enjoy some good natured ribbing when I'm playing with friends, or cheering for the Home Team = U.S.A., but I didn't taunt any of the Euro's during the competition, nor did the large majority of people there.

I yelled out a couple "get in the hole" on a par 4, so obviously that wasn't going to happen (at least on that hole! Ha!). Just a shout out and a chuckle. I didn't yell at any Euro players, they're mostly good dudes just like most of the U.S.A. team (I have a severe dislike for Sergio, as do a lot of people and fellow golfers who aren't Spanish, and hoped to see him hit into water on every shot. But he's a money player, if he could putt in Majors like he does in the Ryder Cup he'd have probably won a 1/2 dozen of them).

Talked to several inebriated Euro's who were having a good time after being here for a week. We had a lot of handshakes and high fives and fist pumps and laughs with them on Hole #1 for the first 6 matches or so. I was proud of myself for never mentioning how much Soccer sucks while chatting with them (I must be getting soft in my old age!). But I did ask them why they didn't stay in London and watch the Jags and Colts play yesterday! Some were from London, some from Tottenham I think (maybe the same area? I have no idea, or care for that matter).

We went from Hole #1 over to Hole #7, and the dude in the seaplane landed in the lake about 50 yards away from the green while we were there. My first thought was "I don't think that guy in the plane is supposed to be there............... he might be in some deep doo-doo". He opened up the passenger door and started watching some golf. After we left that hole he later got hauled away in a duck boat by the Chaska Police or Sheriff's or somebody, and the plane sat there until the event was over.

The Chaska Police pretty much shutdown any movement around the course for several days, no boats out on the lake, didn't want people even walking or biking around the place all week. And that included the people who live on the golf course. They had a shutdown perimeter all around, and the large majority of fans got there by bus from Canterbury Park horsetrack and Valleyfair, where we went thru metal detectors prior to hopping on the bus. Security was tight, but it was fine at the event.

I only live about 15 minutes away in Eden Prairie, so I've been looking forward to it since it was announced years ago. The best seat is always in your living room, but there is nothing like being there. Then on the way home (The Female came and picked us up), we saw several celebrity gawkers on the road with cameras by Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie watching the Limo's come in and the Lear Jets fly away.

I did do a little shout-out to (Cedar Rapids native and Hawkeye Fan) Zach Johnson and got some thumbs-up acknowledgment from him (he was on the back of a cart riding along on 18 after he'd already won his match). Several others then joined in and he was soaking it up and clapping and waving and having a great time!

Anyway, it was great, largely because they won, but would have been either way. I've been to some U.S. Opens and PGA Championships as well, but nothing compares to the Ryder Cup. The next Ryder Cup in the U.S. is at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. If you can go, I would highly recommend it.

No, it wasn't me (he's about 20 years younger I think!). That was an awesome deal though! He talked the talk, then backed it up and walked away with a fresh $100 bill!

I'm actually watching a replay of yesterday right now. Wanted to see how it all went when you're not on the course (lot going on with 12 matches, hard to keep up while you're there).

Can't imagine what it had to be like to be there, but you are right about sitting on the couch. You don't miss a thing.

Also, a TON of golf purists are SLAMMING the way the event was portrayed on TV between the "raucous" crowd and over the top players(Rory, Stenson, Reed and Snedeker). Since you were actually there, did it still feel like a Golf event or more like a Football game(the way a ton of the "purists" likened it to)?

Think a lot of us were shocked after the match with Colon. Tony couldn't do anything against him. Has beat him every time since. So yea, many of us have our issues with Tony but let's not kick him when he's down...he's best with a huge chip on his shoulder which yesterday should provide.

That guy is a huge douche. Huge. That said, I did enjoy him making the putt.

It seemed like the Euro Players weren't taking it too seriously and were trying to have some fun at his expense as well, actually having him come out and letting him have at it (practice round to boot). But he shocked them and actually made the putt! (granted, it's 20 feet by if he doesn't hit the center of the cup but still...................).

Worked out well for all concerned, IMO.

I consider it more like a Vikings versus Packers game. "Them" against "Us". If you're a Football Fan, you cheer when the other team misses a Field Goal, or a bomb goes off the opponents fingertips in the End Zone don't you? Or if your team gets a sack, you cheer right? Good for "us", bad for "them", that's what cheering is largely about. I don't know why this should be considered any different from that, in a TEAM competition.

If you're a golf fan to boot, you know they've been kicking our ass for a couple of decades now, so it's time hopefully for some payback. I considered it pretty "inviting" to the opposition compared to what Football, Basketball, Baseball players, etc. go thru in EVERY game they play on the road in the U.S.A. It's not supposed to be "fun" for the away Team. Without it, there is no Home Team Advantage.

People who yelled during backswings and swore directly at the Players were kicked out, and there were very few of those incidents with 50,000 people there every day (many having a cocktail or two of course), and most of those 50,000 wanted you to shoot 20 over par if you were from Europe, no matter how you got there.

And I would hope any sane person, ESPECIALLY from Europe, would understand how mild this is in comparison to any Soccer crowd in Europe. There weren't any European fans getting pummeled by Americans in the galleries, which could certainly happen to them on the road in any Soccer venue in the UK or elsewhere.

I partied with some Euro's and had a good time. I stood next to some who were pretty quiet late in the day, and maybe were all day. Some were engaging, some weren't, just like the general population. Most of the Euro fans were easily identifiable, and I have no doubt they got some grief from some less "civil" fans while walking around the course, and they also gave and took some good natured ribbing (before and after the outcome was known).

But I think by and large they were treated well by the American fans, Average Joe's like me who realize they are human beings who just root for a different team and were born in a different place. We could all be neighbors and best friends under different circumstances. Much like Viking/Packer, Iowa/Michigan, etc., etc. etc.

And for those without brains, or who haven't been paying attention, the majority of Media types in the U.S.A today are skirt wearing Males and Feminist Females who have an agenda, and should largely be ignored, which I do. And those who tell it like it is, risk losing their jobs just in case they "offend" the wrong group, no matter how small that group is. It's a damn shame.

Thankfully there were a few reporters on-air and in some newspapers who rightfully deducted it was no big deal. It wasn't. In 2 years they'll get their chance to get under the American players skin, and if they let the crowd do that to them, they'll get what they deserve, beat.
