Recruiting

U17 Greco results today (courtesy zzs006 on PSU board):

Greco happening right now. These Raney brothers are straight up studs. 5 guys wrestled today and 4 went 0-1 and are eliminated. Jayden Raney at 55kg went 4-0 and is wrestling for gold. He went down 6-0 in the semis before getting double unders, forcing his opponent to his butt and then running a good old half for the fall. His brother Jordyn who I think is the better of the 2 wrestles tomorrow at 60kg. Both brothers competed at 60kg in freestyle at the trials with Jordyn winning the weight. In greco they went different weights and both won so Jordyn is wrestling both styles. They are absolutely fearless on the mat. Just get after it and put up a ton of points. Whoever gets them for college is going to be very happy. Kids are winners

I thought there would be more interest in the Raneys on this board. Jordyn is into the semis, while Jayden is into the finals.

I have no inside knowledge, but they seem to favor Illinois and Iowa. They visit the Illinois RTC a lot, and their high school coach is Brooks Black, the Illini alum. Just depends on whether they want to be on the big stage or not.

Generally speaking, greco isn't a big draw for college fans.

But I gotta say, the Raney bros(and U17's competitors overall) make for some very entertaining matches. There's no fear in their style. Very fun to watch scrap, no matter if its folk, free, or greco.

Greco or not, the kid's got impressive flexibility, foot speed, length, and par terre skills. Sign him up.

Don't worry, they're both really good in freestyle and folk as well. Just hope their love for greco doesn't supersede everything else. Because Illinois/Medlin is a significantly better spot for that.

We need to remember we landed Otto Black. He’ll be competing at 63 Kg. In Greco Roman at the U20 World Championships in a couple weeks.

We also have Gary Mayabb in the room who is an accomplished Greco Roman Coach and knows a thing or two about the development of GR wrestlers.

Perhaps it isn’t at the level of Illinois/Medlin, however it can’t be discounted.

I bet TNT are recruiting them hard.

Everything I hear out of Pennsylvania is this kid was born to be a Hawkeye and Strittmatter is getting him ready to be. Then I see this and it sucks to see.

Recruits go to different schools to train all the time. I wouldn’t sound the alarm yet. Jax Forrest trained in Iowa city a month or 2 ago and we know how uphill that recruitment is.

True. Besides, no matter what school he is leaning, it would be a horribly poor developmental decision to not take advantage of his access to train at a premiere RTC like NLWC.

I sure hope Carl the devil didn’t tell him how many nattys his kids have gotten. That’d be dirty pool. Especially at the upper weights.

Is Michael Mocco even a consideration for the Hawkeyes? Let's say Ross chooses football, would Mocco possibly be a Hawkeye or is it Oklahoma State for him?

One thing that is extremely important for recruiting over the next year or two. Iowa cannot lose to Okie State in the dual. With the power that DT has, it can set Iowa back in the recruiting game even more.

Barring a monumental injury bug, no need to worry about that this year.
