Poor guy.
Looks like he visited many programs, including PSU and Oklahoma State, but not us. I don’t know what made some of you guys think we were in the picture. Is he blue chip, or just a nice project with potential. Is he in class of 2026.

Looks like he is a sophomore this year. Used to travel to Sebolt. Has always been upper level. Looks like he was state champion at 113 last year and jumped all the way to 144 this year and doing well. A quality kid that could end up at 157 or 165 where we don't have much lined up.

He was supposed to come in October, but a conflict came up so they had to cancel the visit. Pretty sure it had to do with his sister, who is also a college athlete and the Iowa visit ended up being same day as one of her competitions.

Guess he wasn’t interested enough to reschedule. Is this much of a loss for us?

He's a Junior. Sophomores can't take official visits. His state titles are 106 and 113. His commitment graphic says he projects at 133, but I think 141/149 is more realistic as he appears to be growing.

Had the pleasure of doing a radio show for my home town team on Saturday at Benton. Got to see Hayden Schwab live and holy moly guys. He made a 2 time state champ look like a JV wrestler. Obviously we know where he is going but he is on another level. Could have teched the other kid sooner but wanted to work on riding some.

Eh. A solid mid to upper level program like UNI is the perfect place for him. Iowa will be aiming higher. Of course, it remains to be seen if they are successful in that effort.

No one knows for sure yet.

If/when it happens it will likely be a sliding scale to 30. So not a hard cut for the 2025-2026 school year.
Actually it appears that it is a hard cut to 30. Similar to the football hard cut to 105. I think there is still some legal action pending but as of now it’s 30.

Look for the first thing to happen is the athletes to organize a union.

Looks like the current "cap" is $23.1 million per athletic program. That includes all NILs, which have to be funneled through the school with appropriate regulation being given to the NCAA. The profit sharing is currently at 22% to the athletes. I would bet money that is the FIRST thing to change once the athletes have a union. MLB, NHL, NBA and NFL all have owner/player split of 48% or higher.

tOSU is spending 20 million just on the football roster this year.

And that was just the NIL. The cap includes all direct payments and scholarships as well.

Another little nugget - this cap and direct payments from the school are only for revenue generating sports. So I have no idea if that means an Iowa wrestling, but not Cal Poly will be subjected to the cap. Or is it sport wide?

I thought about going into that, but I didn't. The roster cap will be 30 unless pending legislation changes it.

I thought i had heard somewhere that a lot of this only applies to schools that opt into the revenue sharing.

This is 100% correct.

So do the schools that don’t opt become non athletic scholarship?

You can’t stop a kid from getting NIL - so how is that policed?

We probably should hope athletes don't become employees because non revenue sports could be relegated to club teams. Lots of potential problems in the future. The whole NIL deal was an obvious disaster waiting to happen.

NCAA fighting this tooth and nail like it was going to hold up in court is the bigger problem.

Could have had the control had they just ceded that NIL was ok.

If you are talking about Haakon Peterson who is this #1 we just signed at his weight?
Um, Leo Deluca. Deluca is ranked #1 at 120, Peterson is ranked #13. I assume if we signed both this Board would light up with "fire Brands," and "haven't we learned from the Kennedy/Caliendo/Arnold situation," blah blah blah

Gee look at Bo’s post today to see UPJ and the Clowns have been eliminated. But what I didn’t like was all the visits other coaches have made to see dual McCort and Wyoming Seminary had and imagine this, not 1 Iowa coach listed as being at that meet or recently around Bo.

Peterson is likely a 49/57 in college.
