Resar to the Portal

Zero surprise.

Notice how he didn't thank any of the coaches or described about his great time here.

Pretty clear he is NOT happy.
Not happy. LOL He allegedly made a ton of money for being the worst QB in major college football. He never should have seen the field in a Hawkeye uniform. He wasn't great at Michigan, just like Harbaugh said, and after all his injuries, he's got nothin'.

But yah, pretty classy from Capt. Cade. Rather than slipping away quietly, he is boldly proclaiming his availability . . . again. Good luck with that. His mom wouldn't choose him for the annual family football fracas in the backyard, but maybe SE Middle School of Ann Arbor could find a spot for him.

T. Barnes talked yesterday about the 105 scholarship limit and also the December recruiting dead period. Iowa coaches are on campus this week talking with all of the current players and discussing their roles moving forward. The focus is roster retention or frank conversations with players encouraging them to move on. Every current scholarship is guaranteed through spring.
There’s always an excuse about Iowa being “thin” at O-line, QB injuries, injuries in general. I mean, WTF? Who is responsible for recruiting? Why are we always thin at key positions? Aren’t we supposed to be the recruit and develop team? Guys stay here 5-6-7 years. We aren’t a blue blood where guys jump to the NFL or portal early.

Deion Sanders and Cignetti come in and flip teams to conference and national title contenders overnight because they have roster and recruiting strategies that fit modern rules. Sanders is smart, too. He signed only 13 players yesterday, but all of them can come in and contribute -5 star, 4 star kids. He will fill another 10-12 spots in the portal and he already has a ton of talent returning. He knows how to manage a roster by today’s standard. KF has ZERO strategy around the portal because he “shops at different stores.” That line got old 20 years ago. Give me a break.

This has nothing to do with getting down to 105. They have more than enough room right now. They only had 85 scholarship guys on the roster last year, they have 20 guys leaving prior to any transfers or early exits.
Sure it does. Iowa has stated they are going to stay at 85 scholarships, with another 20 reserved for walk-ons. They aren't moving up in scholarship numbers because to do that would require them to add women's scholarships at an equal level in order to meet Title IX requirements. Resar is a scholarship player. If they want to bring in scholarship transfers, some scholarship guys are going to have to be shown the door.

You know what, Mel Tucker did it too....and it worked for him for exactly one year. Mike Norvell did it and he went from 12-0 to 2-10. Let's see if these guys can sustain it or not. KF has a 26 year track record of knowing what he's doing. You may not like HOW he does it, and that's certainly your right as a fan, but you don't luck into 204 wins.

You also have to consider that there's been a change in OC - not that BF is someone a QB relishes learning from, but Lester has his idea of what he wants his QB and offense to look like, and ML is someone he unwittingly inherited who is well down in the depth chart, and he may just not see himself ever getting a major role with this team.

I'm surprised we haven't heard about ML entering the portal yet. I still think he will in the next week, but I would certainly be ok if he gave spring ball a shot before deciding.
None of us really knows Marco's ability, never seen him play even a full quarter. He looked good or at least a very good runner. I agree, he should give spring a chance to see where he lands.

It aboslutely doesn't, they were at 85 scholarships this year, and they will be at 85 next year. Iowa is already 5 scholarships up just from the departures vs signees, that doesn't include early exits or transfers. So no this logic makes zero sense. You cannot force any scholarship players to leave their scholarship either.

3 guys (Hurkett, Jones, and Wetjen) are probably coming back, that leaves only a gap of 2. They plan to sign more than 2 scholarship transfer from the portal. So yeah, they need room. And if you don't think coaches all over America in this day and age aren't having convos with players showing them the writing on the wall, then I don't know what to tell you.

I don't trust any talent that Brian brought on. If we have to clean house for the QB room, so be it. I know Resar only just moved to WR, but it may be for the best. I'm going to trust Lester's process.

I am sure he wants to be a QB. He wants to play now rather than later if possible.

This is ok and good luck to him. We still have Sully, Shaggy, and Marco and Sully and Shaggy have won a couple of games each this year. I feel better about our QBs going into next year than I did with Cade's knees and no expericence behind Cade at the start of this year.
Watch, at the next school he finally relents and plays wide-out, and then turns into an all-conference rock star.

The poster you are responding to isn’t talking about Cade. You’re out of your element.

Are his skills as a quarterback really that bad that the staff would consider moving him?
Who really knows if the staff knows what good QB skills are? After all, they liked Christensen(sp?), and felt Hill gave them the best opportunity to win while he was here.

Last season only 5 of 18 BIG programs started a non- transfer at QB. This is the new normal for college FB.
No surprise here. Good luck to James.

So Resar was evaluated by the former offensive coordinator? Thanks for pointing that out, I'm sure nobody knew that secret. Point still stands, coaching staff's... HC on down, quarterback evaluation has been abysmal.
You should check the tense you use in your posts. "Is" and "has been" are different things.

Coaches have to make decisions…and the decisions they make often dont make everyone involved “happy”….I wish all these players (and coaches) the best of luck.
I was referring to the comment a previous coach said about playing the back up qb and not knowing the upside of doing so.

Resar. Really not unexpected. Kid is recruited as a QB to Iowa and can't sniff the field as a QB vs a 4th string walk-on when #1,2 and 3 get injured. On top of that he's encouraged to move to WR. Feel for him b/c I haven't noticed KF ever recruiting kids just to later go "oops, we made a mistake evaluating your skills. We'd be willing to help you find a new school"

Perfect example of what appears to be Kirk's thoughts on an ideal QB. Follow orders. Stay in the pocket. Anything unscripted is frowned upon.
It's also the opposite of the best QB performances of his long coaching tenure here. The best and most fun to watch aspects of Banks, Tate, Stanzi, Beathard were the unpredictable things they did that led to great plays. Not always, but often enough that their times at QB1 stand out because of that.
The paradox I’ll never understand…

It's cute the way you try so hard. Quarterback evaluation 'has been' abysmal. That's obvious based on recent results... 'has been' as in the QBs they (Brian F) evaluated in the past, and have played, have not worked out well. I don't know if it 'is' abysmal now because I haven't seen any of the new quarterbacks, who would be evaluated as good or abysmal, and were recruited by Lester, get an opportunity. So it 100% 'has been' abysmal (my opinion). However it may not be judged 'is' abysmal until we have a chance to judge the new quarterbacks that Lester has evaluated and brought in. Class dismissed.

Now that you mention it. I remember how disdainful Kirk sounded after a game in which Drew Tate did a bunch of scrambling around behind a less than stellar oline. They won the game and Tate was super elusive back there. After a game a reporter brought up how remarkable his ability to extend plays was and what Kirk thought of that. Kirk responded with something about how hard he made it on his olinemen who didn't know where he was behind them. Tate was carrying the team that year and that moment is ingrained in my mind as a aha moment. QB is making plays with his feet extending plays, and the old oline coach is mad that his oline can't count on him staying between the tackles.
Capt Kirk is a damn Fossil.

Regardless if FBS, FCS, or something else, Cade needs to go to a team with a focus on stout O-line play and a preference for a pocket passer with good receivers, and a good run game…

Nevermind, unless a team full of offense studs, he won’t have enough protection to do anything in pursuit of the NFL.

Convinces me the dude just loves to play football. Who wouldn’t. Sometimes the mind doesn’t recognize the limitations of the body. Ask Charles Barkley.

What makes you think he has a clue about offense, other than o line
While I'm not a huge Kirk F fan, I will mention... isn't he the winningest most coach in the Big Ten, or close to it? that tells me he knows a fair bit about most everything fb related.

Joe Labas pulls a Kadyn Proctor type move and portals back to Iowa. Stranger things have happened ok... oh well. Maybe not.

At times we may want to consider that sometimes kids have an overinflated opinion on their skills and lack in patience.
They have been told since they were young that they are all that and couple that with a competitive nature they may feel they deserve more.

Or standing on the sideline freezing might make me think that Jacksonville wasn’t 15 degrees the day after Thanksgiving.
A lpt of people on here had an over inflated ego on Iowa finding and developing quarterbacks.
