I believe they have another preferred walk on coming in as well. Ash? Wasn't he one of the top scorers in Iowa last year?

gonna be interesting; i wonder if Ash redshirts?

HUGE roster!

Not really. Think of Dr. Tom and his Grey teams. Having a bunch of guys willing to play on the practice squad is not a bad thing. Here's a quick way to check out opposing rosters. Also, keep in mind that walk-ons today may not walk-on next year:

https://www.verbalcommits.com/conferences/big-ten

Illinois had 17 guys on roster this year...just click on the various team logos (this site is not always accurate...not perfect.)

But! Check out the average stars...How did Purdue and Wisconsin do so well, again? Wow...stars matter. (I know...studies show a slight chance that the more stars the better...I know.)

thanks; i updated the orig post

Garza and Patrick are both 4 stars, per Rivals

Nunge is supposedly a top 5 player in Indiana. The top 4 ahead of him are all top 30 players per rivals. Then even 6-10 are high ranked players. Wonders if Fran might of struck gold in Indiana with Nunge.

The orig post now covers 12 years!

I added this to the orig post:

So 5 of Fran's last 6 recruits (2 are his own sons) are 4-star recruits. And actually the single 3-star recruit has been compared favorably to JU, who just signed a multi-year NBA deal.

Everyone on here was looking for a recruiting upgrade...it seems like that wish has been granted.

On top of that, yes, it seems like Fran is also able to find 3-start guys that can compete favorably in the B1G: Jbo, Pemsl, Moss, etc.

It is difficult to see what can possibly derail this train. The next several years should be very fun for the Iowa men's basketball team and it's fans.

Go Hawks!

Aren't teams only allowed a 15 player roster, including walk-ons?

A quick google search:

In college, the NCAA does not enforce roster size at the Division I level, though there is a limit of 13 scholarship players per school at once, with no limit on the number of walk-ons.

gonna be interesting; i wonder if Ash redshirts?

HUGE roster!
If Ash steps foot on a B10 floor for a game Iowa is in trouble. Lot behind the scenes why this kid will be down in Iowa City....will leave it at that. Sure he is a nice kid but has not nearly enough game for the B10.

The assistant coaches have the preferred walk-ons simulate certain players that the team will play against. Their tendencies, where they like to shoot from, etc. It's a valuable help. Don't denigrate Ash. We're not going to depend on him to win a game. He's a practice guy and will see some mop-up duty. 6-6 Till is more interesting because he started on two state championship teams with Pemsl and has some serious skills, especially on defense, but his main contribution will be as a practice player like Ash. But, Fran redshirted him, so maybe he could be another Baer. Doubt it, but who knows? He had a better high school career than Baer. And maybe in some game the team has the flu and needs every able body. I've never spent much time worrying about walkons. Baer is a rare bird.

Is it denigrating if it's true? Not banging on the kid, just stating the truth about him as a basketball player....not even close D1 level talent

I think Fran might have hit with Nuggets too. Didn't get to see him play but one writer thought he might have contended for Mr. Basketball if he would have been from Indy and had more coverage. I think one thing people miss is that most of the kids Fran recruits are really good students. It gives him the option to take a flyer maybe on other guys. Looking forward to it.
