It is possible not to be heavily manipulated, but it apparently requires too much work and self awareness for most people. While the media and politicians could do MUCH better, they're just telling their respective constituents what they want to hear, feeding their trolls if you will. People provide the demand, they supply or are what we seek. But much easier to just blame them. Doesn't help that parents spend a ton of time telling their kids what to think rather than teaching them how to think. But again, easier to blame others. Carry on, lots of good 'data' here for the next round of psychology grad students to analyze for their theses.
