Saudi blood money golf field announced

RBC is pretty apparent they'll be dropping him soon. They have 2 Tour stops they sponsor I believe, and multiple golfers. Graeme McDowell will be on that list to be dropped as well I presume.

I guess it depends on how long that $150 million is for. The high end Tour guys like Tiger and Phil have banked $40 million a year in sponsorships.

Don't ever feel sorry for a Professional Athlete. It isn't worth your time and they don't give a rats ass about you, the paying customer (or the Team for that matter, with the possible exception of Tom Brady). That ship sailed a long time ago. The NIL and "amateurs" has already proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt as well.
Yeah you're right. Tom Brady is the only professional athlete who cares about the team. What a stupid take, though considering the source not surprising.

I'm not a big golf fan either and don't have all the facts. My understanding is that Sauda Arabia is funding golf tournaments that compete with PGA events, and cutting huge checks in doing so. PGA is doing what it can to limit competition, but some players are

God damn capitalism!
Especially when your competition has a lot of money, too! ;)
When the folks involved don’t have well founded ethics, controversy is bound to follow. These golfers have signed “non-compete” clauses to play on the US PGA Tour, let the chips fall where they may.....and just send the checks to the lawyers involved! This is just the start of a long term mess.
Editorial comment: Dealing with the Saudi’s has to make one feel a little dirty, doesn’t it? However, when there is money involved, people are too glad to look the other way.

I won't be watching it, and don't support it, but I also can't understand the hate.

Saudi's have played the U.S. like they have something we need. Our politicians get megafortunes from their benevolence and our mutual corruption. The control they hold over the gobal energy supply is dictatorial. Nothing to hate.

I guess you like fake Americans?

I guess good for him. He won't be playing on the PGA Tour anymore and I would expect his sponsors to be dropping him soon. If all you care about is money he should be happy. Taking money from someone like the Saudi's shows how much character you have in my opinion.
Agreed. And I would show my character for a fraction of that

I agree with Rory that the field is not exactly overwhelming. DJ's the best player right now, but has the personality of a rock. FIGJAM's best day s are long-gone; Scurgio's one of the biggest jackass crybaby's the game has ever known. Westwood's claim to fame is that he's high on the list of best players to never win anything that matters. Poulter & Oosty are about the only two others that anyone knows, unless you count Koepka's little brother.

What does personality have to do with anything? Johnson & Garcia are fun to watch, they always go pin seeking. But yeah let's watch Harris English & Kevin Kisner play their conservative golf & say it's more fun to watch.

People also need to remember that the PGA Tour is a non profit (hard to believe). So much money is raised because of these tournaments that gets sent to local charities and organizations. So the players make lots of money, PGA Tour execs and employees get paid, and charities are given lots of money.

So DJ and some of these players who made good money on the tour and can still compete are greedy a**holes.

You don't think they knew this would happen? DJ has 150 million reasons not to care. I'm sure HawkMachines LOL really shook him.
Taylor Made will be next. I guess DJ doesn't care about competing for real championships. Playing in the Ryder Cup. The Masters. Good for him. I'm sure he was in the poor house and needed the money.

Paulina ain't cheap.

Rumor on the Twitters on the Internets is the two amateurs got 6 million lump sum, plus 250k an event.

Twelve events that's 9 million all in.

True that being a good player who plays an aggressive style is more fun to watch, but that's somewhat my point. There are very few of those guys who jumped. Out of the full list, I think I've heard of a dozen of them (and one of those I've heard of only because he's the younger brother of an established star).

Of the dozen I've heard of, there are only 4 or 5 who I'd recognize if I was to see them out in public at, say, a restaurant.

Short term gain for long term pain for all of these guys. Jack is on TV right now and I believe him, Arnie, and other legends like him still make/made $100's of millions each year on endorsements and their other golf ventures due to their status. Lefty was dumb because he gave up all that goodwill and all those lifetime endorsement dollars to get a short term pop of Saudi cash. DJ is the same. The younger nobodies will get paid but their careers will be short lived.

The Saudi League isn't going to make it, I don't care what kind of money they have backing it. Too many people are just opposed to it, mainly the channels that carry golf. YouTube isn't going to cut it.

FYI - the Golf Channel is on daily here so I'm in tune to what is going on. I won't watch the Saudi League. Those guys are as good as dead to me now.

Agreed. Thus the blood money thread title.

I don't see a TV market for it. NBC owns the golf channel, so they are out. Fox doesn't do golf (or abandoned it recently). CBS will never take it if there is any risk they lose the Masters.

So really, only ABC and maybe TNT are the only possibilities ...

Plus, 48 player tournament will be viewed by most Americans as a bunch of has beens or never was. Don't see it succeeding, but who knows ...

LOL. Garcia is widely disliked because he is a jackass. Always has been and always will be. DJ has the personality of a piece of mud. This Saudi tour is perfect for them. No one will be watching anyway. There isn't a network that will touch this.

Lol at the idea of personality over preferring to watch them taking driver vs long iron off the tee. Garcia has blown up spectacularly in multiple Players Championship, making it very fun to watch.
Try to keep up with what I'm saying.

Bullshit.....IF the $$ is there, there will be a viable network covering it. These "networks" are nothing more than tax-dodging capitalistic whores and once a price is agreed to.......anything goes! You forget Jcc where we live! And where we live, the $$ comes first. Right now I think I'd like to be an attorney for someone involved,,,,,because they will get paid first!

The tourney is next week. What network is signed up to carry it? I'll hang up and wait.,

That's because they don't appreciate the lag he has. Joaquin Niemann has a similar swing & it's sweet to watch. Would love to hear who you like to watch, I'm guessing it's someone like Bill Haas or Brendan Steele. ****in lame.

Justin Thomas for one. I like Rory because he has a backbone and whether you like his thoughts or not he speaks them.

Found an article that DJ was estimated to have a net worth of $50 million.

The new GS650 jets cost $65 million, so no wonder - dude needs money.

I can watch Thomas hit wedges all day. Plus he has every shot in the bag. McIlroy has been my favorite after Woods for years. I'm guessing you were on Matt Kuchar's side when that tool told Garcia he never gave him the 1 footer in match play. **** Kuchar. Garcia is way more entertaining than him or most Americans for that matter.

I am kind of bunmed that Kevin Na and Talor Gooch are in this as well. Nobody mentioned them yet. They are more than just washed up old dudes.

Will the courses these guys play be banned from PGA competiton? Which 4 US courses are they playing?
