Saudi blood money golf field announced

I will be interested in seeing if Phil will be invited to Augusta in 2023. It is an "invitational" and NOT an official PGA sanctioned event. I'm sure Phil will be "good to go" with the USGA and Royal and Ancient.......but I seriously doubt if he will play in another PGA Championship or Player's Championship or Ryder Cup and Fed Ex Cup until this is settled (in his favor) or he apologizes.
It's not just Phil. DJ and Sergio have a green jacket in their closet too. Winners are supposed to have membership and entry into the tournament for life. We'll see if Agusta National changes their rules.

Sergio could get an invite, I could see that. Phillip and DJ might be a little dicier....especially Phillip after this year. We shall see.

Phil did not participate at Augusta this year. It is truue the PGA and the PGA Tour are nor the same organization and have had their diferences, but....it is far from a certainty.
And the PGA as well but that was his own decision. Phil has a five-year exemption in both Opens for winning the PGA last year and a lifetime exemption for Masters and PGA. I doubt the Masters will buckle just because of who they are. Nor the British open because of so many Euros on the LIV tour. It will be interesting to see what happens. Can't imagine a member of a LIV tour winning one of those majors and will be interested in what kind of bad blood there will be between golfers as this comes down to money.

They will also be off the Ryder cups by default I am guessing. Euro could benefit from the losses as it needs new blood.

As there should be....DJ (and other American tour card carrying players) will get an injunction and then the lawyers start their billing hours......However, DJ/the players agreed not to compete vs the PGA Tour.........what the USGA does is their own business.....but DJ/American players playing in PGA tour events and the Ryder Cup and other PGA sanctioned events is in serious jeopardy until things get settled. I don't know which, but I would think DJ needs the PGA Tour more than the Tour needs DJ. It will be interesting to see how the Euros playing on the American Tour will be affected.
If DJ can play in the 4 majors, why does he need the PGA Tour? Doubt he cares much about the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup.

The PGA is more in tune with the PGA Tour, but, in general, if a player is in the Top 100 of the OWGR they will get in. If The Open and US Open are truly open, then, not sure how they could be excluded. The Masters will let them play.

The majors are not going to rework requirements in a hissy it about LIV.
Phil should have kept his mouth shut, the tour should have provided exemptions and this story goes away pretty quickly because no one is watching those guys on YouTube TV

With all the hate Phil received, rightfully so because of his stupid comments, hard to walk away from 200 million

He ain’t playing in the PGA championship, I’m betting unless he gets an agreement. He really cut his nuts here, potentially. And who knows what The Masters decides. I think all those boys think the Ryder Cup is the top banana for tour players.

Damn. I always liked Phil. That is no longer the case.
Jeez, y'all acting like he helped the Saudis invade their neighbor, or something where thousands of people are getting killed and starved.

Instead he's taking money to play golf.

::cue outrage::

He auto qualifies for the PGA Championship for at least two more years.

He plays in both if he wants.

Not if the PGA bans him…and “breach of contract” might be cause…again, let’s see where the lawyers, injunctions and law suits lead us. This could be years before settlement. But DJ would have a hard time proving the PGA prevented him from making a living if they ban him for life…as he makes a living playing golf in another organization.

I think they’re going to have to put up with a lot of “growing pains” for that money.

I mean the PGA is a well-oiled machine with oversight into tournament management with experienced, regular tournament directors.

These “experts” have their price and the Saudis understand this. Money is no object to these money barons of the Mid East.
You think there might be a political deal in the offing between the US and Saudis that would incorporate golf rights for them opening up the oil spigot? Biden isn’t going to Saudi Arabia next week for the sun. Shittier things have been done. Do you not think Trump would pursue such a deal?

Was a big fan of Phil too, but what a chicken shit move on his part. Skips the Master's and the PGA Championship as the defending champ, but goes over the pond where he won't face nearly the scrutiny. You can run but you can't hide Phil, and nobody bought what you were selling relative to the PGA Tour, and likely nobody gives a shit what he says from here on out.

He can buy another Jet I suppose, good for him.

Jack Nicklaus hasn’t been competitive at any level in 25 years. He should have taken the money and insisted he get to tee off first.
Or you are forgetting history and that Jack is credited as one of the original founders of the "modern" PGA Tour.

Also, Jack still pulls down a out $100 million a year from all his endorsements and golf related activities, I read somewhere. Saudi connections could hurt his other business.

The irony is that he is being sued by his own namesake company partially for turning down the Saudi money because it meant money for the corporation and he neglected his fiduciary duty by turning them down, or something legal speak like that.

They're all nothing but whores bought and paid for by the Saudis. High priced whores, but whores none the less. Get out. I hope all their sponsors drop them and the money was worth it.

Too bad because I liked Ricky even though his game has gone to crap and he can't win anymore.

Phil did not “skip” those events…he was asked not to play in them by sponsors. Phillip is poison right now.

Lol. Just saw that Ricky Fowler couldn't even qualify for the US Open at the Jupiter, FL regional. Dude probably needs to take the Saudi money while he can.

The competition will begin at 2 p.m ET, with free live streams available on LIVGolf.com, YouTube and Facebook. According to a press release, coverage of the event will include 60 on-course microphones, including ones worn by players and caddies, and 50 cameras capturing the action.

Looks like the rabbit ears crowd is out of luck.
That isn't You tube TV either. Sure glad all those networks jumped all over this like a certain poster predicted.

He most definitely does. Ricky seems like a good dude, but his game is and has been in a bad place (but so was Jordan Speith's for a stretch).

Why does the media hate Saudi Arabia so much, but kiss China's Ass?

Who exactly is kissing China’s ass?

There is a difference between doing business in a country (NBA) and doing business for a country (LIV).

The biggest hit for golf fans will be losing chance of Phil in the booth for PGA events

You are conflating the PGA Tour and the PGA of America. This article talks through a lot of the questions being asked.

Playing devil's advocate here.

How many of you would change jobs if you were guaranteed a 20x plus increase in your salary? Would you be a traitor too? Why do you feel the players owe the Tour anything? They are independent contractors that the PGA Tour benefited from as well.

It would be hard to turn down.

I still think the tour is misplaying this. Should have just given players a limited number of exemptions and moved on. Now they’ve drawn a line in the sand and if they lose in court they’ll wish they compromised.
