Scuffle

Papa, that is what I find is funny, you called yourself a coach. Your son couldn't be coach by a coach. Also, usually the other wrestlers from the team that is there everyday in the room help coach the wrestler or the undergrad in the room like Chris Perry coaching Joe Smith. Just got a good laugh about it, you sure were fast talking when they ask you who you were. I understand why you said what you said, I've been there and said the same thing. I found it as a funny moment, nothing else.

Hey Mike T...any info on Kaid yet? Serious question....hope it's not to serious and he's OK soon.

Megaludis looks good in the finals, but blatantly stalling on top, all hes doing is dropping to the leg or ankle and running him out of bounds, hasn't been called once. Smith not too happy.

Megaludis wins 8-1.

Yep, Did it in the Semis too. Drop down grab an ankle and drive a guy out of bounds in 4 seconds (Repeat)

Heil over Mckenna 2-1 in rideouts, McKenna rode Heil out but gave up 2 stalling calls for hanging on to the leg. Heil Rides McKenna out and almost get 2 NF on a tilt.

Rather than fight to get out, conaway was relying on a call. No hand control and just letting garret pick him up.

Not even sure why the OSU troll is on the Iowa board trolling an guy from Illinois cornering a Minny redshirt.
Way too many layers for me. This is a great environment with excellent wrestling. Enjoy the wrestling like others in attendance.

Retherford with tech fall in the finals. Can't wait for some of you to dissect everything he did wrong. Have at it!!
Troll job 4/10.

Dieringer beats Massa 8-2. He hung in there with Dieringer, had a few nice ankle pick attempts but Dieringer is way too tough. Massa is going to be a good one.

I am not sure I would call it blatantly stalling, but it should have been called. Maybe they could call fleeing the mat or something like that. Is that still a call?
Anyway, Mega looked busy on top, but that dropping down to an ankle for a few seconds is understandable. Doing it time after time again takes and official with some guts to make the call. We all know how many officials have any guts.

Dissect this: you're a douche.

In the past, I have always pulled for the Hawks to win a national title without any regard for the rest of the field. When OSU went on their run I never rooted against them per se. Now, I root against PSU. They have some of the most obnoxious fans (on the web anyway) but for whatever reason they keep getting a pass from the wrestling community.

The only reason I said blatantly stalling is because I cringe when the top guy, no matter who is wrestling, runs the bottom guy out of bounds or runs him right to the edge, then when he works up grabs a leg and then runs him out before the 5 count with not a single stall call. He was clearly the better wrestler, but that kind of stuff drives me nuts.

Nickal wins 10-7. Looks incredibly impressive. I hate to say it as much as the next Iowa/OSU/tOSU fan but he looks like the #1 174 lber in the country right now.

I know we are only talking semantics. I agree that it should have been called, so really we are in agreement. I probably should not have even responded.

I also agree there are some obnoxious PSU posters, but for the most part they are decent. Much like the Hawk fans. Most of you guys are awesome!! (This is response to CFNiteHawk85's post.)

One thing that totally confounds me is how does anyone ever beat Gilman? He handled Garrett twice last year. He owned him. Garrett to me looks invincible most of the time, yet Gilman was his Kryptonite.

Gabe Dean wins 8-2. Workmanlike performance, and it looked like Brown hurt his hip/knee in the first period, but took injury time and kept going.

Also yes, I (as well as most hawk fans im sure) enjoy good wrestling banter with most PSU fans that come here or any wrestling fans. Most people can tell who the ones are that are looking for good wrestling talk and who the trolls are.

McIntosh 3-2 over Pfarr, pretty boring match. But it looks like a top 5 group instead of a top 4 group at 197. I don't think its crazy to say Burak might make the finals, McIntosh has always had his number, but hes not a world beater like his team mates.

The Top Ten:

1 Penn State 183
2 Oklahoma State 158
3 Lehigh 104.5
4 Cornell 98.5
5 North Carolina 97.5
6 Minnesota 79.5
7 West Virginia 76.5
8 Central Michigan 65.5
9 Stanford 59.5

I'm almost there too. I try to tell myself it's not the wrestler's fault, and some PSU wrestlers have been fun to watch and terrific talents. And I've sat next to some very nice PSU fans at ncaa. But while tOSU and OSU and Cornell fans are all pretty civil, there truly seems to be an inordinate number of trolls, clowns and jackazzes who are PSU fans, esp on themat forums.

The Mat is what I'm thinking of specifically. I know all kinds of Iowa hate there is the norm, but the PSU crowd goes above and beyond. Those dudes dish out far more crap than they take, which I can't figure out how they get away with. From my experience, the civil PSU fans are the exception.

Well you can also see a prime example on PSU's board with amaloon. I know hawk fans can be unwelcoming and harsh on PSU posters a lot of the time, but I don't think we tell them to kill themselves by biting a cyanide capsule o_Oo_O

Maybe some of this bad fan stuff is because hiding behind the computer just my opinion.
I don't go looking for a bad discussion of wrestling. Last time in St Louis about 8 or more Penn State fans that I had a chance to talk with where ok and enjoyed the convertsations with them..Now they where not very young or very old like me lol but would guess it late 40's or so. I personally enjoyed talking with GOLDBANGER he would admit that he was impressed with the Hawks history and even said our day will come again. I believe he did coach at one time in high school.

Shows how uneducated you are. First off, I know you didn't insinuate this, but I wasn't implying nico was a staller, but this PARTICULAR match, mainly on top he was stalling, get over it. Second, If you had watched Mike Evans, you would know that his first 2.5 years as a hawkeye he was a Beast on top, rode much like Zain does now, dominating people in power halves on top. Then reverted to low scoring, riding time matches later in his career. Yes, I hated seeing Mike keep matches unnecessarily close when we all knew what kind of arsenal he had if he chose to open up or work for turns on top. Still loved Mike as a hawkeye, because he was one tough S.O.B. and wrestled with his heart on his sleeve. Boy you PSU fans are feeling extra chirpy today aren't ya?

I liked Evans for his warrior spirit, and embracing the "dark hat" role. I hated the way he wrestled the last two years. Just pointing out that dropping to an ankle was not something unique to Nico. While I don't necessarily disagree with that being stalling on top, he also scored 7points without riding time in that match. I watch more wrestling than most, and not feeling chippy at all, just making a point.

I was probably a little over defensive, but I tend to defend our guys against others, even against our own hypercritical fans sometimes. But while I was referring to Nico's top tactics in this particular match, I said I hated it when ANY wrestler did that, and also said Nico looked good and was clearly the better wrestler. I just said chirpy because it seemed like a simple troll post, and there have been more than a few of those today with Penn States dominating performance at the scuffle.

I'm always down to talk great wrestling with opposing fans though. How do you feel about PSU's projected NCAA placements post-scuffle? I'm curious as to your take on it. Perhaps you'd like to join the conversation in the Ohio state title contending thread, where a few of us have been discussing it.

I believe it was this tread that some one was questioning John Smith being in his son's corner thinking it would violate NCAA rules that prohibit a team coach from being in the corner of a RSing team member.

After spending the past hour trying to get my pass word right (and watching TCU come from 31 points down to beat Oregon in triple OT ;-0 ) i thought I would put out there a possible loop hole in the rule. Is it possible that "coach Smith" can not sit in Joe Smith's corner but Joe Smith's father can???

Just a thought!

I think that is indeed the case, I noticed the rest of the OSU coaching staff watching and cheering from the background in Jo jos match.
