Session II Thread

Burak picks down to start the 2nd period. Escapes at the 1:40 mark and has a 1-0 lead.

Burak in on the leg, elevates, and gets the TD. Now leads 3-0.

When will we see the next Iowa guy that will roll through the tournament with bonus points and win a title? Seems like it's been a while.

The amount of bonus points by PSU is crazy

So, every fan would be cool and not lose their mind, ask for a coaching change if our wrestlers came out in Nov and Dec and tried different moves, maybe didn't have as impressive of wins as we should or even lose matches in an attempt to "peak" in March. Ya, I'll buy that. ;) We started the tournament with two majors and people were jumping of the ship and calling for a coaching change.

Like what I saw in the front side matches. Some tough matches but guys just wrestled solid. It's still not my style or what I'm used to seeing out of Iowa wrestling with the exception of the last few years, but the big 5 are in good shape headed to the quarters. Burak with a solid performance. Not really sure what Brooks was up to. Seemed a little disinterested early but you could tell after he was taken down the second time he was gonna respond. Sorenson just isn't gonna put up tons of points and it's why he can't beat Retherford. Gilman was sold against a kid who did nothing but avoid him. I still think he wins 125. I like Brooks at 185. And I think Clark, who I thought had a poorly officiated match, can get 133. Burak against McIntosh will be interesting. McIntosh seems to be rolling but it will tighten up come tomorrow night.
Hope Cooper can regroup and the backside guys can put some matches together.

Just think if Stoll was healthy.
My snarky response is maybe we would be up to third place. Seriously, sucks for Stoll, but he will be right there over the next 3 years. Advancing isn't enough anymore. We need wrestlers who can score points. Gilman has that attitude, Stoll goes for it when healthy, and Brooks once in awhile. We have a few more guys who could advance, maybe finalists. But they will not get us the bonus points we need to compete with PSU.

We got much, much farther away from the typical attacking Iowa style over the course of several years under Zalesky leading up to his departure. Tom has gotten us much closer since then.

The main factor that has influenced our degree of aggression in recent years, IMO, has been recruiting. We've had more weak spots in the lineup in recent years, and even some of our AA's in recent years have reached that status through development more than coming in as blue-choppers. Aggression is directly proportional to talent in most cases.
