Session III Thread

Great wins be Meyer and Burak. Brooks loss really stung. We'd be in great shape to finish 2nd had Brooks won.
Burak/McIntosh. Last chance for Nathan to get him.
Love how Gilman and Clark are wrestling but gonna be tough interesting matches tonight.
And Sorenson has a nice draw tonight.
Should be a fun night.
Hope Brooks can fight back to 3rd and hopefully Meyer can keep it going.

Two bad non challenges by the staff there. Should have challenged the first td in period 1 and for sure challenged the back points at the end. Replay made it look like a 2 count at least? Can you challenge backs?

At first view I thought Brooks had the ankle and a TD in the first before he got out scrambled. Getting ridden and tilted for 4 really killed him.

Ok. That answers my question. I figured since he was suddenly down 6-0. Hard to come back from that.

I get what everyone is saying about Sorenson and you guys are absolutely right. It's all about survive and advance at this point and that was a gutsy win.
That said, BS is so frustrating to watch sometimes. He took one committed shot in almost 10 minutes of wrestling. Just feels like he could've accomplished that takedown much earlier and not had to have sweat and worked that hard. When he commits to a shot, he's pretty efficient. But a win is a win. Very happy for him. Hope we finish strong here and Brooks and Burak bring it.
He was working hard but having trouble clearing the arms...too much straight in.

Meyer won as well 10-9. Basketball guys, go away and celebrate your mediocre sport. Folks have real business here.
LOL - I'm watching the basketball and will cheer just as hard for them as I do GMan's, Clark's, Sorensen's, and Burak's title runs. Also cheering for Sammy and Meyer to get 3rd.
And I don't care much for the team score right now.
Can't we all just get along ...

I'm 'm not saying that he's not orders of magnitude better than Moore, but unless he does some miraculous work in the consolations, I think we can agree that his performance on the NCAA stage isn't much better than Moore's. You do the comparisons yourself:

We'll continue this convo if Brooks goes 0-2 his senior year at NCAAs....but he won't.

I like basketball as well but don't tell anybody on this board

Did Cooper just pin himself?

Dudley did one move and got 6 points then stalled out. He was gassed after the first period. Don't know why many of the Iowa wrestlers aren't great at finished with the single up.

He also tilted him for BP from on top. I actually have always been happy with Brooks finishes with a leg up, though I have to admit his is not textbook technique.

Brooks is so talented. You can just see it in him. He's national championship good but it's just little hiccups that seem to catch him. Dudley out scrambled him in that first period when it looked initially like Brooks was in great shape and instead of it just being a takedown he got out scrambled for; he got tilted. Brands seemed adamant it was illegal but it was reviewed and upheld. If that match goes another :30, Dudley was done and Brooks would've won it. Sucks because Dudley is not a better wrestler nor is he more talented than Brooks.

Woah woah woah, let us not differentiate our fanbase by sports they support....I am a "basketball guy" but when it comes to any Iowa sport I know I for one support. I know I was bummed about Stoll and the Brooks result. Long story short as Hawkeye nation I think we are all looking for success and hanging some more banners in Carver. Go Hawks

God I hope he doesn't. I thought he had a great shot at winning it all this year. But just like seemingly every other match, he has that one bad move...and against the best in the country, he just can't have those. He's got a tough road to 3rd, and I think he can do it if he avoids having that one move...

I know we're disappointed in the Brooks match but extremely premature to be comparing him to Nick Moore. Fully confident that Brooks will come hungry in 2016-17.

Okay, I did the comparison. Moore was 3-8 lifetime in the NCAA tournament, including 0-3 in the first round. Sammy Brooks is 4-3 lifetime at the NCAA tournament, including 2-0 in the first round. To me it looks like Brooks is wrestling better at the NCAAs than Moore.

I don't get why people have to bash another sport? Fans are fans and Hawkeyes are Hawkeyes, it doesn't matter what sport(s) they follow. The wrestling community should and needs to be as inviting towards others as it can.

I hope he comes hungry the rest of this tournament...unlike last year when he hit the consolations and crashed. I love watching the guy!

I had to stop watching after Brooks, and I'm glad to simply read Meyers' and Burak's results. Creating too much emotional turmoil at work.

Maybe so, but this time every year we get offered their "expertise" every time an Iowa guy loses. It would be nice if Iowa wins in BB, but not going to go over and tell them how sucky they are if they don't

We return everybody besides 141, 157, 194, am I correct on that. Obviously we got nothing from 141 this year, Coop did what he could, and Burak is and has been pretty solid the last 2 year. I think we will upgrade 141 for sure, I mean you can't get any worse than 0 points. 157 from all the talk will be Kem and from what I have heard is going to have bright future. 194 might be our only downgrade, although I could be wrong due to being a "basketball guy" LOL
