So... Joe Toussaint

Zero. The whole team is back besides Baer and Pemsl has show IMO he deserves those. Keep the rotation small.

Lol, Nunge has outplayed Kriener. Averaged more ppg as a true freshman than Kreiner did his first 2 seasons.

Fran has said he dominates practices, but now he won't play?

He redshirted this past year, Kriener didn’t. If he could have helped the team this year, he would have played. He ended up getting hurt after the decision was made to redshirt.

It was his decision to redshirt.

He averaged more minutes per game as a true freshman than Kriener did any season .

Yeah because Iowa had “an incredibly deep team,” he said. If he would have had Kriener’s minutes this last year he wouldn’t have redshirted. I think he’s a great player, I just think Fran needs to figure out who his 9 best guys are and stick with them.

Kreiner redshirting instead of Nunge would have put Kreiner, Nunge, and Garza in the same class which would be VERY poor roster management.

Then don’t redshirt anyone and just sit Kriener and play Nunge. If a guy can help you win now, why redshirt him?
So you're saying if someone needs a redshirt year to develop, they can never be good enough to play because they didn't contribute instead of redshirting?

I know the answer isn't as cut and dried as it used to be, but there is a trade off for some players. Will they help you more now, or as a 5th year Sr. How good would Olaseni have been his 5th year? He played 5 minutes per game over half the games as a freshman. Unfortunately well never know as Fran was short on Big's at the time. Another example is Acie Earl who sat out his freshman year, and became our all time leading scorer.

Acie Earl finished 2nd in scoring to Roy Marble Jr.

I'm excited Iowa got this kid he was a good pick up and just what you guys needed. I can't wait to watch him and Iowa State Commit Tre Jackson go at it the next 4 years. It will be a hell of a show.

Easily Fran’s best incoming pure PG. If he can get comfortable with the next level of competition, he will be exactly what Iowa has long needed.

It’s an argument (not one I agree with in this case but not as stupid as what you first said). Many Wisconsin fans feel Bo cost the Badgers a national championship by redshirting Ethan Happ.

are you implying that Tom said Joe T will be the next Ronnie Lester?

No, sir.

It's in response to Tom's request that fans pump the brakes on a guy who hasn't played a single game as a Hawkeye.

I hope he's great. But, after reading some previous posts, all the guy can do is be brilliant or disappoint. As a freshman.

I threw in some hyperbole.

He did?

I am excited for JT too, but let's realistically not over inflate expectations. It's still a big adjustment to Big 10 hoops, IC, etc. If you are thinking Edwards, Winston or Carton next year, please reduce your dreams.

His size and skill set remind me a lot of the Frazier kid from Illinois. Very similar games.

I always temper my expectations with Iowa sports, but I ma looking forward to a point guard who can break down a defense. Hope JT comes out on fire next year.

I’ve seen a few posters question Joe T’s height, but he is definitely as tall or taller than the last three “quick and athletic” small guards McCaffery missed out on. Those recruits where greatly lamented going elsewhere if I remember correctly. Something that stands out to me about Joe T right off the bat is his ability to play high level defense from the start. He is able to do so because of his quickness, but also due to his great wingspan for his height. These attributes combined with his willingness to be a great defender will get him playing time. On offense his ability to distribute is already at a high level, with a savvy drive and dish game. His shot is fine, but will require developing for consistency.

In addition to Iowa, Northwestern, Nebraska, Purdue and Ohio State all signed 2019 point guards. Out of that group, only Purdue and Ohio State signed a pg rated higher than Toussaint (depends on recruiting service, rivals favors Nebraska's PG, but 247 has Toussaint higher).

I like it.

Not even close to similar games. Frazier is a 3 point shooter primarily. JT is more like of a break you down get in the lane and find or finish guard.... something we've not had in a long while

Agreed, Frazier’s game is closer to JoBo than JT. They had nearly identical 3 point shot stats last season.

Kevin Smith, anyone?
Joe seems different from K Smith. Absolutely no interest in making movies! ;)

Seriously, Joe seems to be a more complete basketball player. Kevin was showy and a pretty good ball handler, but he was not great defensively. Joe appears stronger already. Albeit based on the limited video clips available, he appears to be a strong defender who is also a willing defensive player in that he seems to take pride in his ability to harass the other teams' guards and get his hands in the passing lanes. Offensively, he seems more like a pass-first PG who gets as much pleasure from a good assist as he does from scoring.
