So... Joe Toussaint

JoeT looks a lot better driving to basket then Clemmons. It never was big part of Clemmons game to dribble drive and finish or pass.

Joe T looks like more of a drive and dish guard than Anthony.
That being said, I hope Joe T has the shutdown Defense mentality that
AC brought to the Hawkeyes

Not even close to similar games. Frazier is a 3 point shooter primarily. JT is more like of a break you down get in the lane and find or finish guard.... something we've not had in a long while

Very similar games, actually. Frazier is primarily a drive and dish guard who can shoot the 3 (streakily). In high school he finished at the rim a lot. In the Big Ten... not as much. I don’t expect JT will be doing as much at the next level either. They are similar size.

Are you thinking of someone else on the Illini? over half of Frazier's shots come from behind the 3 point line.

Kaminsky and Uthoff both redshirted and I dare say had better careers than those who played for Wisconsin and Iowa in front of them.

Some guys just need time to develop physically.

Correct. Programs like Wisconsin, Virginia, and Gonzaga do this. Iowa is the sort of program that needs to routinely redshirt freshmen unless they're ready to contribute significant minutes (like Joe W this year). Other things being equal, a program with players in post-high school years 2-5 will be more physically developed than a team of players in post-high school years 1-4.

The whole Courtney Scott vs Steve Alford thing left a bad taste in many people's mouths for redshirting, but it's the right thing for Iowa to do.

No. Started following Frazier in high school. Watch some of his old recruiting vids. Same skill set as JT. Same size. Frazier really only became a chucker this year. Last year as one of the big ten all freshman team, he drove and fished and shot a lot more mid range jumpers. Now that Ayo Dusumo is on the roster, most of the transition and secondary fast break points go to him.

Trust me. I watch way too much basketball.

JT looks like the same kind of slashing distributor. Don’t expect him to finish at the rim in the B1G like he did in HS. Not happening.

My feeling is Joe T 's game looks a lot like Xavier Simpson of Michigan, not this year's version but freshman Simpson. If he can develop like he did, we'll be really happy by his junior year.

Lol, Nunge has outplayed Kriener. Averaged more ppg as a true freshman than Kreiner did his first 2 seasons.

Fran has said he dominates practices, but now he won't play?

Scoring more points doesn't necesarily equate to outplaying.

And in this case it obviously doesn't.

Nunge was more of a liability than an asset last year. Kriener is usually an asset even if he doesn't score.

I am excited for JT too, but let's realistically not over inflate expectations. It's still a big adjustment to Big 10 hoops, IC, etc. If you are thinking Edwards, Winston or Carton next year, please reduce your dreams.
Everyone seems to think all in or all out as far as an incoming recruit.
Iowa just needs the type of talent JoeT has. Not saying he’s a superstar. Think of the Iowa team as a cup of quality protein powder. I hope for JoeT to be a quarter cup of water as a frosh. Enough to appreciate but wanting more recruits like him and a more experienced JoeT.

Advanced stats disprove your assertion.

Nunge had a higher PER, WS/40 and Box Plus/Minus last year than Kriener.

Nunge was better based on virtually every advanced metric.

Admittedly I never watched him in HS but Frazier has shot 375 3 point shots over 2 seasons.and has not had a 100+ assist season while averaging over 70 TO’s. I doubt JT gets anywhere the minutes Frazier did as a frosh but I hope to God he has better asst/to ratio! I will be shocked if his stats look, anything close to what Frazier’s are at this point. Yes, Ayo took some or even many assists away this season but he only averaged about 3 assists a game as a frosh.

As others have said, I don’t think we redshirt him or Patrick. They both add a lot to our roster. I think Joe T could earn a lot of PT if he improves us on both ends of the floor. I like Patrick’s defensive potential too.

Getting a step off the dribble has been sorely missed for this team. I think Joe T could unlock some easy buckets, especially with the scorers he will have around him.

We could throw out a very good defensive lineup too with the two of them - Joe T, Moss, Joe W, Pemsl and Kriener.

We really don’t need another shooter, in virtually every line up we will have at least 3 shooters.

Patrick adds another ball handler and shooter. I think he plays far more than most people expect.

Except that he was clearly shit on defense.

Other than that, you're right.

He was a 6'11 dude playing the 3. What did you expect?

Who said I didn't expect it?

I argued all that summer before their freshman years that both he and Garza should redshirt.

The roster was completely overloaded with bigs, neither one had a clue how to play defense and having guys like that as 5th year players is how the Iowas of the world compete with the big boys.

I'm sure they didn't want to, but who does?

I think Fran is putting something together like we haven't seen at Iowa for a very long time. Look, Fran gets that the team desperately needs a PG that can defend & distribute. He tried plenty of different variations that didn't pan out or chose to go elsewhere. I think the decision by Tyler Ulis left Fran & staff brow beat as they put maximum effort into landing him only the lose that prospectus in the blink of an eye. These next four years have the feeling of something special.
