I expected the Red gains to be better, little surprised on some of the Blue gains. But why?

Did the R's run too hard on crime or "stop the steal"? Hell, people here called out "whats the plan besides owning the Libs?", does this prompt the Rs to start working on defined governing plans again?
Did the R's show their hands too early on abortion? Are they out of step with the general public?
Did the R's misjudge the general public's interest in Trump? Is it a sign that the GOP needs to follow suit and stop kowtowing to Trump?
Did the R's misplace blaming Joe for inflation?
Did the Dems not support some of the close races like they should have? e.g. Ohio? Or did the D's put the right pressure in the right areas?
Did the D's fumble forwards in areas (e.g CO and Boebert)?
Did the D's message register better than expected?

How do you counsel the party to prep for 2024?

1. Candidate quality still matters in statewide races
2. If Republicans can actually get rid of Trump, candidates like Kemp and DeSantis suggest they could be strong in 2024 but...
3. Trump will still thrive in a primary setting
4. Election fraud is a losing issue. STFU and move on.

It all goes back to Trump. Many of his major candidates that he really got behind Oz, Walker, Lake have lost are are losing.

Walker still has a chance with the run off. Lake still has a chance as well. But both are losing.

Boebert's election if she wins it will be close and she could lose as well.

We've got laughs from coast to coast
To make you smile
Real life flubs of each of you
To capture all that style
And you're the red, white, and blue
The fun and things you do
America, America, this is you

Republicans need to get back to basics. Drop Trump. Drop MAGA. Drop The Election Was Stolen. Bad candidates will lose elections.
This and quit drawing lines in the sand. Reverse Roe v Wade and push forth bills to help reduce abortions the right way--social programs for single moms, better access to healthcare, sex education, etc.

Socialist! Just kidding, those are good ideas that could get bipartisan support.

It is very obvious that if the GOP wants to win in 2024, they will need to dump Trump and rally around Ron. Have to.

If it is Trump and Trump starts trashing the GOP leaders again, the enthusiasm for the overall GOP will be very low….including myself.
Trump will trash anyone that gets more attention than he does. He won't take being dumped lightly.

America actually surprised me. I expected more of the GOP nutjob, election deniers, to get elected than did. Now if Lake loses I'll feel pretty good.

Seems America has rejected Trump and is tired of the drama in Washington.

Glad to see Boebert is currently behind in Colorado.

My take away is this. So long as we have a Supreme Court that places value on the rights of states and the autonomy of states to chart their own path, then I believe everyone will be fine.

If people are ok with lockdowns, school closures, restrictions on traveling to second homes, biological boys taking away girl's athletic opportunities, gender reassignment surgery for minors, CRT or variations of such being pushed on their children, anti police rhetoric, progressive approaches to crime, fewer restrictions on abortions and higher taxes, then stay in a blue state and continue to vote Dem. If not, stay in a red state and vote Rep.

Reminds of the Grassley ad, if Franken wants Iowa to be more like California, then just move to California Mike.

The majority of people in Michigan must not have minded the the Covid lockdown measures and everything else going on up there. They turned Michigan deep blue last night.

Everyone has options. They can always move to a state that aligns with them.

THE BIG LOSER LAST NIGHT IS TRUMP!

Big Winner Chuck Schumer

Big Winner Ron D

Big Winner Joe Biden

Big Winner Fetterman and Warnock

Warnock is a lock in a run-off

Small Loser Nancy Pelosi

Small Loser Mitch M

Big Decision Joe Manchin if it's 50/50 does he switch parties with his re-election coming in 2024 in a state Biden lost by 40 points? Joe Also Canceled Coal last week in a speech.

How is Warnock a lock?

And this is why there was no red wave. So focused on most of the issues in the past that are social and people start to tune you out.

Yep, for the sake of the country, more and more Republicans need to tell Trump to STFU and GTFO. He’s an embarrassment. Frankly, it’s time for the powers that be to charge Trump and get his fat, miserable ass behind bars or let it go completely.

It's a repudiation of Trump and his specific form of politics, but I don't think it's a repudiation of the idea in general. DeSantis is extremely popular. He's just refined Trump's bully pulpit a bit and hid it behind some fancier doublespeak.

I think maybe it will be a bit of a rebuke on the MTG, Gaetz, Boebert side of the party, but not a repudiation of the ideas. America just wants them presented better.

Big loser: SP Maloney. Imagine being responsible for funding all of the party planning, and then not getting an invite.

This might be your dumbest post to date.

Obvious? Had no idea the GOP wanted to win in 2024. Good to know.

I thought last night was a big nothingburger. GOP should know by now what they have to do be relevant in the future. Dems made mistakes on spending. They could have won Ohio if they financially supported Tim Ryan. Iowa took another huge step in becoming redneck central.

Most importantly our nation needs election reform. Cut the money and blatant gerrymandering out of it. Florida's gerrymandiner was absolutely pathetic. It will soon be state is given no attention on that national side. And if you are completely dominated by gerrymandered districts, don't expect bi-partison support for any federal funds for the state.

Gerrymandering can't hamper Senate and Governor elections, but yes, as for state legislature and House of Representatives, Florida and many other states have rigged it so that Dems can never control the legislature.

I think that's a pretty good take of where a lot of people have ended up or are going eventually. That's the extremely polarized, partisan tribal mindset that we're minting lots of anymore in America.

I wish we weren't...

DeSantis intends to run for President. But he wants to be drafted as a candidate so as not to alienate the MAGAs. Hopefully, Trump's Twitter account will be restored so he can commit hara-kiri or otherwise implode.

Do you think California and other states don't Gerrymander?

Both parties do it look at the maps

This is true. I'd really to see, though, an analysis of how by each party. How much over time, as well.

Gerrymandering is relatively terrible and pathetic - but how much has changed about it recently? Has it been a scourge in American politics for many many decades at this point? Are republicans turning to it more often than in the past? More egregious gerrymandering?

Not with those 3 far right idiots, none have a brain between the 3 of them.

You can't win 20 of 28 seats simply gerrymandering....DeSantis won by 20 pts and you can't gerrymander a governors race..

Weak argument IMO.
It went exactly as predicted and the way Republican's intended.

Under the old map, former President Donald Trump won 15 of 27 districts — 55 percent — in 2020 while winning just over 51 percent of the vote overall statewide. Under the new map pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Trump would have won 20 of 28 districts.

It also freezes in place for now a new congressional map for the nation’s third-largest state that will likely give Republicans a potential 20-8 advantage in a state where the GOP has only a slight voter registration advantage. This is another big blow to Democrats’ hopes of holding onto their majority in the U.S. House.

This new map also dismantles the North Florida congressional seat held by Rep. Al Lawson, a Black Democrat.

I know both parties gerrymander. It is b.s. But DeSantis made it to 5 new GOP congressmen would be undoubtably be elected.

And where did I ever say you can gerrymander a Senate or Governor race? Keep making up things that I didn't state.
