Sold out game but lots of empty seats

I was surprised at the tickets sales this year. It’s almost like some thought Clark was coming back or magically Iowa was now at some new level of national excellence.

It’s was a great run but it’s over. They will likely regress below their average and then build back up to their average over the next couple years.

That lightning in the bottle is done.

I am at the games and will renew my season tickets next year. I think the fans will stay because this will not be the norm, and we have some exciting recruits coming in. Northwestern is just not that good on paper, so I am not surprised that everyone didn’t show up. I expect Carver to be filled and lively on Sunday.

We need to have a little perspective—this is just a bit of a transition year. Unfortunately, we had a losing streak at a bad time, but the team is improving, and we can still possibly make the tournament if we go on a run.

We lost a lot last year in terms of in-game/pressure experience and leadership, and unfortunately, that hasn’t come together with some of the upperclassmen. Not to mention that two of our expected major contributors had surgeries before the season, and our point guard is a transfer learning a new offense and teammates. (Also, Villanova does not play the same style of play as Iowa.)

We also have a new head coach—there is always going to be a transition from assistant to head coach. She has made mistakes, but I feel like people need to lay off a bit. She is learning and finding her footing and will be just fine. Her rotations are much better, and I noticed the team executed some great plays yesterday. Plus, all of this Jan negativity on social media will not help us in recruiting. It’s a bad look.

Also, WE WILL BE PLAYING FAST. They realized that O’Grady/Hannah didn’t work out and played too slow. Since we switched Hannah back to the five and made a few other tweaks, our offense has been coming along, and we have been pushing the ball more. Also, transition/read-and-react offense is the style of play Iowa is selling to these recruits.

Look at the bright side: we have our 2024 class gaining valuable experience, great 2025 recruits coming in, and HOPEFULLY, we can impress a few of the recruits visiting on Sunday to go here. We are in a good situation.

I see the pep band, does that make that the student section? Not surprising, they didn't show up during the CC years either.

Give them better seats they say.
Thank you, that's definitely the student section. It looks like that for every sport minutes before the game. Sometimes into the first quarter for football.

Iowa has lost 3 games by a total of 6 points, with all of the other losses by no more than 10 points and all of our losses were by an average of 5.1 points, so even with TOs and missed FTs etc, they have been competitive every game. The rest of the season is a challenge for sure, but get through this one and I think good things lie ahead.

Only a fool would try to run the same offense as was done in the previous four years.
Says a fool who doesn't know sh!t about the game. You can't replace a generational player scoring 30 points/game, another WNBA player and three additional seniors and expect the same results. That said, this team does play better defense.

Part of the “problem” for games last night are season tickets.
The only way to get tickets for USC/UCLA and other high profile weekend games is to buy season tickets. For those games, the cost of season tickets was much less than just the high profile games.
However that means midweek games are “free” and many fans don’t care to make drive on “school night” for a lesser opponent, Then the seats stay empty.
