Thad has had back issues for a while....I thought that also at one time, but looking at Fran's and Thad's age, Fran is in his mid 60's and Thad is in his mid 50's, unless Matta has medical issues that requires him to leave after this year, why would Butler replace Thad1? Doesn't make sense.....
There is a cure for that. It's called a bench. And rebound. Shot goes up, stand around and watch. Incredible
LMFAOI think the Fix is in for FRan to take over at Butler...
I have a feeling Beth will make that decision for him.I'm always the last to know these things... did he make an official retirement announcement?
This, when did he say it's his last year?I'm always the last to know these things... did he make an official retirement announcement?
We need a 38 year old baller coach that gets into the game at the physical level vs Frans old age rant antics that merely show misguided passion for ref calls Vs defense and offensive sets that make teams work to guard usOur next coach, hopefully next year, does not have any sons. Knows how to recruit. Can coach in game. Damn this is bad. How much more of this shit do we need to take.
BETH. Spend some ****ing money and get the right guy in here. Shit
Yes, afraid of change. Afraid it will get worse. That's different than saying they want to keep Fran. Are you kidding? Whenever there are calls to fire Fran there are frequently posts saying “Who is Iowa gonna get that would do better”, “It is more likely the next coach will do worse”, “Be careful what you wish for” etc etc etc.
Yes, I am exaggerating to make a point. But you know darn well there are fans terrified of a coaching change because of Lickliter, and fans that think it is likely the next coach will do worse.
However…..those posters are becoming fewer and fewer.
Brad Stevens was most, if not all, of their NCAA success.LMFAO
I heard he's a lock to replace Hubert Davis at North Carolina.
Butler is not hiring Fran F*cking McCaffrey as a head coach. That program wants to win conference titles and perform well in the NCAA tournament -- they want to be nationally relevant again. Their fans would revolt.
During Fran's tenure at Iowa, Butler has been to 3 Sweet Sixteens and played in two National championship games. Fran has never made a single Sweet Sixteen in his entire coaching career.
During Fran's tenure at Iowa, Butler has won four regular season conference championships. Fran has won zero at Iowa.
Why in the absolute sh*t would they hire a 66 year old coach who has never won a damn thing? lol
Some of you people are completely deluded when it comes to understanding the kind of national reputation Iowa basketball and Fran McCaffrey have.
Personally I'm not afraid at all. I already have gotten to full on apathy, so if the next guy doesn't succeed, I don't feel like I'd be losing anything.Yes, afraid of change. Afraid it will get worse. That's different than saying they want to keep Fran.
I'm afraid too, but I'm far past ready to go there. At least it will be different.
He hasn't said anything of the sorts...this whole thread is just an ignorant venting of frustration...it may not age well, either...This, when did he say it's his last year?
LMFAO

Would have made way more sense for last year to be his final season here.I’m still surprised nobody back there has heard anything.
I heard before the season from someone back in Iowa, that I trust, this is Fran’s final season.
Well, when fans say they don’t want a change because things could be worse, that pretty much implies they want to keep Fran, does it not?Yes, afraid of change. Afraid it will get worse. That's different than saying they want to keep Fran.

That’s because every shot goes in. Nothing to rebound. 😎And rebound. Shot goes up, stand around and watch. Incredible

Not at all.Would have made way more sense for last year to be his final season here.
Why would they hire a 67 year old coach?Brad Stevens was most, if not all, of their NCAA success.
They're okay at best this season and they're not winning anything major anymore.
True, losing the NCAA Tournament the Covid year hurt though. That was a pretty good teamFran grooves on coaching his kids and running the team to maximize their role. I imagine it would be hard for him to not coach Jack.
I think the Fix is in for FRan to take over at Butler, or else another Midmajor and then transfer in Jack to play for him. FRan will have to take a pay cut. I think he's probably negotiating some partial buyout, so Iowa pays him while he coaches somewhere else.
Fran has so many fans that just love being 0.500 in B1G. I don't know how you can look back at the Garza/Keegan years and not think Fran blew his one chance of making a run in NCAA tourney.
I said the same thing last year. I hope you’re right.I’m still surprised nobody back there has heard anything.
I heard before the season from someone back in Iowa, that I trust, this is Fran’s final season.
I can't find a single Iowa fan I know that wants Fran to come back next year. Not one. Why? Because there are a lot of people terrified of a coaching change. They are 100% convinced Fran is the best coach Iowa could ever hope to have, and that when he is gone the program is guaranteed to be Lickliter bad.
He starts the freshman of the year in the league and an all conference player in the frontcourt. He’s got a Missouri Valley front court on a BIG budget! FM is stealing from the University!
Fran is nowhere as good as TD.“Remember what happened when they ran Tom Davis out of town.”
Am I doing it right?
Not really IMO. It's just the contrarian in people that want to point out the downside.Well, when fans say they don’t want a change because things could be worse, that pretty much implies they want to keep Fran, does it not?
In any case, while I understand where you are coming from…..there really isn’t anything to be afraid of.
Fran ain't going anywhere. We all know this.
He just moved to a new million dollar plus home 9 months ago. If he was leaving in the spring why would he do that?Have you heard otherwise?
I’ve heard the exact opposite of this.
They built a house in 2016 and sold that home this past summer. That one was $2.5 million. So, I assume they downsized? He just moved to a new million dollar plus home 9 months ago. If he was leaving in the spring why would he do that?
Ah, asking for an age discrimination lawsuit…We need a 38 year old baller coach that gets into the game at the physical level vs Frans old age rant antics that merely show misguided passion for ref calls Vs defense and offensive sets that make teams work to guard us
Except his son Jack is still in HS here....Would have made way more sense for last year to be his final season here.
I'm not sure about the guards thing. When was the last time that Iowa had a guard tandem nearly as good as Thelwell and Dix? The problem Iowa has this year is in the frontcourt and Fran's typical approach to defense. Only one player above 6'8" getting any minutes and their 6'10" center is averaging 3 rebounds per game in conference play. Your other frontline starter who takes more shots than anyone else on the team has the worst effective shooting percentage on the entire team. His exit can't come soon enough. No defense, no rebounding, can't shoot free throws, no guards. Rinse and repeat
Jack is a senior, correct?Except his son Jack is still in HS here....
So, the problem is that the reigning freshman of the year is your center and is averaging 3 rebounds per game in conference play on a team that is historically bad at rebounding and is shooting free throws at a 40% clip. The second problem is that your all conference player is killing the team by taking the most shots on the team while shooting at the lowest percentage on the team. Neither one is particularly effective defensively, because they are typically at a size and athleticism deficit vs their opponents. Other than that they have been very effective. He starts the freshman of the year in the league and an all conference player in the frontcourt.
And then we're going to go get Devries.... right after we just blew the perfect opportunity to get Devries.LMFAO
I heard he's a lock to replace Hubert Davis at North Carolina.
