Sooo glad Fran is done after this year!!

I thought that also at one time, but looking at Fran's and Thad's age, Fran is in his mid 60's and Thad is in his mid 50's, unless Matta has medical issues that requires him to leave after this year, why would Butler replace Thad1? Doesn't make sense.....
Thad has had back issues for a while....

I think the Fix is in for FRan to take over at Butler...
LMFAO

I heard he's a lock to replace Hubert Davis at North Carolina.

Butler is not hiring Fran F*cking McCaffrey as a head coach. That program wants to win conference titles and perform well in the NCAA tournament -- they want to be nationally relevant again. Their fans would revolt.

During Fran's tenure at Iowa, Butler has been to 3 Sweet Sixteens and played in two National championship games. Fran has never made a single Sweet Sixteen in his entire coaching career.

During Fran's tenure at Iowa, Butler has won four regular season conference championships. Fran has won zero at Iowa.

Why in the absolute sh*t would they hire a 66 year old coach who has never won a damn thing? lol

Some of you people are completely deluded when it comes to understanding the kind of national reputation Iowa basketball and Fran McCaffrey have.

Our next coach, hopefully next year, does not have any sons. Knows how to recruit. Can coach in game. Damn this is bad. How much more of this shit do we need to take.

BETH. Spend some ****ing money and get the right guy in here. Shit
We need a 38 year old baller coach that gets into the game at the physical level vs Frans old age rant antics that merely show misguided passion for ref calls Vs defense and offensive sets that make teams work to guard us

Are you kidding? Whenever there are calls to fire Fran there are frequently posts saying “Who is Iowa gonna get that would do better”, “It is more likely the next coach will do worse”, “Be careful what you wish for” etc etc etc.

Yes, I am exaggerating to make a point. But you know darn well there are fans terrified of a coaching change because of Lickliter, and fans that think it is likely the next coach will do worse.

However…..those posters are becoming fewer and fewer.
Yes, afraid of change. Afraid it will get worse. That's different than saying they want to keep Fran.

I'm afraid too, but I'm far past ready to go there. At least it will be different.

Brad Stevens was most, if not all, of their NCAA success.

They're okay at best this season and they're not winning anything major anymore.

I’m tempted to go the route of my KC friend who started wanting his fball team to lose prior to the start of Reid as coach. He was a huge KC fan but wanted a change that bad. Only in this case keep Beth.

Personally I'm not afraid at all. I already have gotten to full on apathy, so if the next guy doesn't succeed, I don't feel like I'd be losing anything.

Going a different direction sound better to me than the status quo. Let the chips fall where they will.

Thanks for your kind words. You really are good at making friends and having debates withour resorting to comments meant to belittle others or made to boost your own feelings of self importance. I'm just a fan, not a basketball professional.

There are 2 McCaffery's at Butler right now with a 3rd heading there. There is some type of conversations occurring with Thad Matta as 3 siblings don't randomly end up at same place. Yes, it very well could be that Matta is just super in love with Fran or doing him some favors because he Thinks Jack McCaffery is going to be All-American. Matta has had health issues and quit once, so I did think it is possible that there might be a plan for Matta to retire.

Butler is not a P5 school with an 170$ million dollar athletic budget that can pay top dollar for head coaches. The guy they had before Matta was Lavelle Jordan, a lickliter cast off. Butler has been a low paying job, BTW, Butler is on a big losing streak and not exactly the powerhouse you make them out to be.

Since you rule out Butler, that just means a nother mid major and Jack will transfer to that school and Fran will take a big pay cut. I agree no P5 school will hire Fran. I also agree Fran's resume is mediocre. No AD at a P5 school thinks they made a big time hire by getting a 66 year old coach with no conference titles in B1G, no Sweet16s in his entire career, and around 0.500 conference record and will pay him $3million/yr. There are no delusions there. The delusion seems to be you thinking most Iowa fans are impressed by Fran's resume.

Well, when fans say they don’t want a change because things could be worse, that pretty much implies they want to keep Fran, does it not?

In any case, while I understand where you are coming from…..there really isn’t anything to be afraid of.

He hasn't said anything of the sorts...this whole thread is just an ignorant venting of frustration...it may not age well, either...
I heard this before the season started.

It may not come true (probably will) but it’s definitely not venting.

I trust the guy back in Iowa that told me this.

Take it for what it’s worth.

Fran grooves on coaching his kids and running the team to maximize their role. I imagine it would be hard for him to not coach Jack.
I think the Fix is in for FRan to take over at Butler, or else another Midmajor and then transfer in Jack to play for him. FRan will have to take a pay cut. I think he's probably negotiating some partial buyout, so Iowa pays him while he coaches somewhere else.

Fran has so many fans that just love being 0.500 in B1G. I don't know how you can look back at the Garza/Keegan years and not think Fran blew his one chance of making a run in NCAA tourney.
True, losing the NCAA Tournament the Covid year hurt though. That was a pretty good team

Not really IMO. It's just the contrarian in people that want to point out the downside.

I'm seeing almost no actual support for Fran.

Ah, asking for an age discrimination lawsuit…

His exit can't come soon enough. No defense, no rebounding, can't shoot free throws, no guards. Rinse and repeat
I'm not sure about the guards thing. When was the last time that Iowa had a guard tandem nearly as good as Thelwell and Dix? The problem Iowa has this year is in the frontcourt and Fran's typical approach to defense. Only one player above 6'8" getting any minutes and their 6'10" center is averaging 3 rebounds per game in conference play. Your other frontline starter who takes more shots than anyone else on the team has the worst effective shooting percentage on the entire team.

Add a couple of tough 6-10-7' defensive minded rebounders to this team and they look completely different. Shit. Even one would make a big difference but I'm not sure he'd see the floor.

He starts the freshman of the year in the league and an all conference player in the frontcourt.
So, the problem is that the reigning freshman of the year is your center and is averaging 3 rebounds per game in conference play on a team that is historically bad at rebounding and is shooting free throws at a 40% clip. The second problem is that your all conference player is killing the team by taking the most shots on the team while shooting at the lowest percentage on the team. Neither one is particularly effective defensively, because they are typically at a size and athleticism deficit vs their opponents. Other than that they have been very effective.

And then we're going to go get Devries.... right after we just blew the perfect opportunity to get Devries.

He seems checked out this year. Just my impression, but he's been running at about FRANCON 8-9 all year. 14 games into the season; we haven't seen that before.
