What if Fran is retained?

Welp, then I will say Good Luck and God Bless as I always have. I will continue to not watch.

I can handle one fatal flaw, but we have two. We don't play defense and our guards will never be the type we need to win. To have both of them is a deal killer for me.
Other than playing his sons over better players and being married to a crazy woman who disrupts games, Fran seems a decent enough fellow. Not a good coach, however. I won’t watch and will wait to see a new coach before I decide to give to the NIL fund.

I agree with this for the most part. That said, our "better players" would not have moved the dial much.

Fran is a good person, a good speaker that is knowledgable about the game, and seems to care about his players a ton. But he has many issues as a coach that we've talked about ad nauseam.

Honestly, Fran could be a pretty darn good studio analyst or in game color-guy. Less money than coaching, but it would be a lot lower stress as he heads toward retirement, he's soon to be 66 already.

I think that all 4 coaches (Ferentz, Fran, Jansen and Brands) are gone by the end of April……Beth is gonna CLEAN HOUSE just as the good folks of HROT have been demanding for years. It’s gonna be a new era of sports at UIowa! Beth is taking names and kickin’ butt!

I agree Joel. I think Goetz will even fire HERSELF! Total house cleaning!

I would add rebounding as the third flaw. Not rebounding on the defensive end doesn't fit getting out in transition and pushing the pace the way Fran wants to play. I have never understood it but it gets to the lack of overall fundamentals that you see from better coached teams.

NC State fired their coach today. He led them to the FINAL 4 last year. If we don’t have the sac to make a change then we get what we deserve.
i know nothing about that coach or program but on the face of it their getting rid of a final 4 coach seems insane. the acc is pretty good, maybe we should add this fired coach to our mix of candidates...

Remember when Bobby Knight had his player throw the inbound pass off the defenders face when Iowa was pressing during the Davis years?
In 1967, I observed a Iowa HS basketball coach instruct a player of his to “rare back and fire the ball off the nose of his opponent if he was having trouble getting the ball in-bounds vs. a press”…
That was 20-30 years before…it’s hardly a new strategy.

I have posted this multiple times and apologize if you have seen it previously. My high school coach in 1A high school basketball taught defense, pressing and rebounding first. We would do five on five drills against the 2nd team. Coach would chuck something up and if 1st team didn't recover the rebound or if the ball hit the floor, we ran our a$$e$ off. When a shot goes up, you get into someone, anyone. Not everyone wants to work, but you can win a TON of games that way. If you're not used to facing that defense in practice, you won't be ready for it in a game. At the very least, you're going to be uncomfortable.

Well that coach was a psycho.

That’s pretty much guaranteed to start a fight.

How long since a Davis team faced Bobby Knight?

Michael Lewis (POS) threw the ball off of Jaacks face in 1998-99.

Some IU shitbag threw the ball off of JR Koch’s face in Iowa City. I’m pretty sure Koch’s dad had to be restrained from going onto the court.

Todd Jadlow threw the ball off of Kent Hill’s face before that. A long history of Knight’s bullshit and none of these resulted in a flagrant or technical.

But.... They resulted in multiple technical fouls on Iowa for reacting to getting a basketball thrown at their face intentionally.

IU and Knight are sh*tbags

Those are great videos. Thanks for putting those up. That pisses me off and they happened decades ago. Kent Hill should have destroyed some of those Indiana players and he got the technical, unbelievable. Absolute scumbag moves. Great to see highlights of those great Iowa teams and players from the past.
