and he has a golden arm. He also kicked ISU in the nuts in the best year of their history at Ames in his 2nd start.

Toren Young is going to be an animal. ISM, Easley, Brandon Smith will improve. Fant and Hockenson - two of the best we have ever had. D and line are almost always good year in and year out. Great kicker. Beat Nebraska 3 times in a row. Recruiting is up a notch.

We are moving in the right direction. Life is good.

Serious question: if Ferentz really would’ve ran up the score on Oh St & Neb, what could he have scored on each team?

I’ll say 69 against OSU & 91 against Neb.

I would like to hear others thoughts. I still wish we would’ve went for 100 against Neb.

I think losing James Daniels will hurt more than we think. Excited to see AJE’s improvement and who wins the safety spots. We’ll need to be tough up front and in the back end while the new linebackers gel.

By the end of the first half of our first game it will be obvious to all the kool aid drinkers that the replacements for Daniels, Welsh, Wadley, Jackson, Jewell, and Bazata, are all going to fall short of their predecessors production.

I like the kids who'll likely see the field, but before we get crazy about who we have take a deep breath and remember who we don't.

I agree with not getting crazy. But I wouldn't go in the opposite direction, either, and assume that none of the replacements are going to be as good as their predecessors.

Iowa is clearly a developmental program. When Iowa is good (i.e., 2015), it is because the experienced players live up to expectations and the young/inexperienced players end up developing ahead of schedule.

I understand what people are saying with don’t get too hyped because we have some big shoes to fill because I agree to an extent but to say we will noticeably worse at 6 positions on the field is just as bad to say. If It is “obvious” we are worse at 6 positions on the field from the year before of a 7-5 team you must think we will go 2-10. We develope guys every year and every year we lose players just like everyone else. There will be guys who step up at those positions no maybe not before the first half of the first damn game but we will be fine. We just need guys that aren’t noticeably terrible out there as other positions with returning starters improve even more and get better with another year to the level of being draftable players as they reach 2nd and 3rd years starting. Then when these new replacements continue to improve they step up into that role as time goes on. Its a continued cycle see how that works? It’s about improving every day which is the goal at Iowa as soon as you get to camp as a freshman. Since ya know we don’t bring in the Alabama type recruits and don’t just throw a 5 stars out there to take a guys spot when he leaves early.

Bazata's production will be easily replaced - Epenesa (or the guy sliding over) is going to fill that hole and then some. There is a glut of talent on the DL waiting in the wings.

Losing Jewell, Neimann, and Bower will be tough to absorb, but when is the last time Iowa had a bad LB corps? Never in Ferentz's tenure has that been the case.

Jackson and Wadley - yeah, obviously. Daniels and Welsh? Meh. Next man in.

Other teams lose key guys too. We're not the only team to graduate and have players leave early.

We had inexcusable losses to Northwestern and Purdue, and got destroyed by one of our biggest rivals in Wisconsin by putting on the worst offensive performance I have ever seen from an Iowa team... and we've had many bad offenses.

There were positive signs (ISU, OSU, Nebraska, bowl game), but the team has a LONG way to go.
But, but, THE OSU game. Oh wait the season is more than one game long.

Well said. Last year we weren't talking about Jackson at all. Three years ago most probably wondered why we gave Jewell a scholly. You just never know who is coming up behind them, and what great things they may accomplish. Really one of the great things about college sports.

Based on KF history 2018 Hawkeyes
Will go 5-2 at home and 3-2 on the road. Wisconsin early in the season doesn’t bode well and all three non conference opponents will give us their best shot while they may not get ours, based on past performance. I see another 2nd place finish in the West. Unforeseen Injuries can always change the equation.

Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but most any team with a pulse beat Nebraska during the Riley years. Beating tOSU - crowning achievement! Nebraska - not.

Beating two bluebloods is a wonderful achievement for KF and co.

Fair point. How about this?: We were literally 1 inch away from beating Penn State.

It's more of a tarnished silver arm.

I'm of the opinion that Nate Stanley has the strongest arm in college football. Next year is when it will look completely refined, that is, if our line can start pass blocking worth a damn. REALLY poor passing blocking in a number of games. Wirfs and Jackson put it all together next year.

Link?

Minnesota has more national titles than Nebraska and Iowa combined.
Blueblood status has little to do with national titles. Look into the metrics, by your standard Michigan is not a blueblood either. Minnesota is not close based on wins and win percentage. These arguments make us hawk fans look petty and dumb.
