Starting guard score Oregon 63 Iowa 0

That’s almost an impressive stat if it wasn’t my team.

Nothing against the players because they’re amateurs. This is all on our coach who had 3 players starting who couldn’t muster 1 point.

Garza is a stud. It was up to Fran to surround him with a winning cast. If you are like Fran and some posters here that think Assist to TO ratio is the only thing that matters for guards, then that is symptom of not knowing how to put together a winning team for NCAA tourney

I guess what is your "idea" of bashing. Calling him a below average defender (true) isn't bashing. And I for one think leaving his shoes on the court at Hilton was THE BIGGEST DOUCHEBAG move I have ever seen, out of anyone. Once he did that, I couldn't like the kid anymore

Yeah you are the douchebag. Seriously go find a different team to root for. Piece of shit

Seriously? You are a piece of shit. Going after one of our all time greats lead than an hour after he finished his career. The man sacrificed literally everything for the Hawkeyes including his health and pieces of shit like you think you are anything at all? **** off

Despite JBO cant guard a chair, cant create a shot off the dribble, isnt a great jumper, doesn't have quick hands and mentioning him as NBA quality is laughable, yes he is great. You realize defense is half the game and he sucks at it. How can one be great if you suck at half of the game?

Well said. You just can’t have 3 starters score 0 points ever. They were bench quality players who started because Fran can’t build a team.

The assist to turnover crowd is pretty silent. Maybe start with a getting a real 2 guard on the roster Fran.

Let me guess, one team was primarily slow and white.
Sadly this was true today.

It does amaze me though when they were able to overcome that against other athletic teams over their careers.

Maybe those fast, athletic black guys that make them look like slow white guys are just getting faster every year..........

Good thing we won't have to deal with that for the next few years going forward, amirite?.................................................................................................

Apologist? What a ****ing clown show you are as a human being. Seriously you are truly pathetic. The type of person that sure has a lot to say but hasn't ever done a damned thing.
Played D-2 baseball and leading scorer on Class 3 Iowa state tournament basketball team. You?

Just need to find someone that can shoot!

I do not fault Jbo at all. The dude has bailed Iowa out time and time again but he needed Fran to put others around him so he wasn't so easily negated like he was today. Fran has no clue to how assemble a roster. Get a bunch of guys with the same limitations and throw them out there and hope the other team doesn't guard the 3 point line. Great we are anchored to Fran forever now.

Fran won't learn or change anything from this season which is the most disappointing outcome.

We really do need a guard (PG/SG) that can handle the ball and create his own 3 pt shot (yes 3 pt shot) when being guarded 1 on 1.

Jordan had it early in his career until he didn't, and I suppose you could blame the hip injuries/surgeries. Mike Gesell was just too small to be the kind of scorer we need in that situation and be a team that can hang with elite teams/athletic teams. In fact, I'm kind of over the 6'0 ft and under PGs for a while. Even Joe, as fast as he is, has limitations because of his size.

One of the things that made Dev Marble probably our best 1 on 1 3pt shooting guard in recent years was he had the length to create his shot and not let the defensive presence bother him as much.

But I suppose we can say it's hard for Iowa to land those kind of guys, so we're stuck with shorter guys like Bohannon and Toussaint, who in their own way can do certain things really well, but also have glaring flaws that will eventually get exposed by better teams.

How many conference championships, conference tournaments, Sweet 16 games has Fading Fran won? And he gets an extension.....

This is pathetically funny as you trash Jordan Bohannan. Leading scorer on a 3a state qualifier in Iowa. Thank you for this. Hilarious.

Oh a division 2 baseball player? Where does the athletic prowess end?

Yeah you sure have that figured out. Maybe go find an old person that just died and piss on the corpse. That would sure make you popular with the family. Then you can turn around an ask what the big deal os if they are already dead.

The man played his heart out and finished at the top in assists and three pointers made. Second all time in the Big Ten. But **** him right because he dared to get surgery on his hips and come back to sacrifice another year.

So terrible that not a single big ten coach would leave him alone when he was off the ball. But you know better.

3’s inability to guard left Oregon playing 4v5 downhill all game. That’s that.

There’s no more defending 30. He has no business on a P5 court. Iowa plays 4v5 on O with him on the floor. You can Assist/TO ratio blah blah all you want but he’s absolutely no threat to score the ball and it hurts Iowa more than it helps. It’ll be interesting to see the 30 scenario moving forward. I’d be willing to bet the guards in that locker room aren’t gonna deal with it much longer.

How is it on the coach if the starting guards go 0-11 and are high percentage 3 pt shooters? were ya pissed at coach when he want like 6-6 from 3 against Nebraska? Some of you "coaches" are morons

Toussaint had a lot of turnovers today, Perkins had some untimely fouls, even Murray looked off. It was not just the starting guards that struggled.

Do people honestly think that IA gets as smoked as we did if Fran didn’t pull Joe T & PMac (who we’re plenty rested for significant minutes) when we were up by 4 late in the first half?

We had a chance if not for total ingame player mismanagement by Fran.

Then why in the second half could we not make another run with them?

You all are bagging on JB that he is slow and I agree but when he is on with his shooting we need him.
Today he was off.
BUT, the other point guards that played dribbled into the paint a turned it over.
How many points did they score?

To me Bohannon's primary value was in hitting clutch shots, which he was remarkable at.

This year that dried up, exposing even more so the deficiencies in the rest of his game.
In his defense, he wasn’t exactly surrounded by great athletes on our roster, which was a recipe for disaster. Honestly, watching some of these other teams play smothering defense - I think KM is the only Hawk that could sniff a roster of one of those team’s...maybe Weezy, but his defensive is average at best.

That's the thing about our system though, it leaves no room for "off nights".

Fran definitely needs to adjust his recruiting philosophies in the next few years to spend more scholarships trying to find some great guards that can get their own shot and create for others. Fran has been spending too much scholarship capital on small forwards.

Oregon is a better team than us. They were also shooting lights out from 3 and couldn’t miss a shot even the few times we heavily contested them.

But we played right into their hands with the tempo and they had a clear strategy to attack our guards off the dribble and put them in a spin cycle. There were multiple times where they would beat 1 guard of the dribble, that guard would proceed to chase (which is pointless after you’ve been beat) and then another guard/wing would have to help, leaving their guy open for a 3 or another easy drive after going around someone running full speed to close out on them.

We spent all day chasing in every possible way.

I think this has already started with Toussaint, Perkins, and Ulis. AND to an extent a healthy CJ. The issue is only 1 looks to shoot from deep consistently and the others play too aggressive and turn it over or have an untimely foul. Perkins and Toussaint are going to be handed the keys next year.

Ulis has potential. He has good FT stroke...most guys with good FT stroke can be at least average 3pt shooters.
I like JoeT, but he is a part time player until he plays without so many mistakes.

I don't think Fran will be a good coach until he embraces defense. You gotta have athletes and you gotta be able to play man defense and you gotta pay attention to matchups and you can't put out a lineup with only offense in mind.

I do think the roster talent is in a lot better shape than Fran's last stinker when he only won 6 B1G games.
I don't think they'll make NCAA next year, but they will be capable of being a decent defensive team.

Lol we were a top 15 team all year with them. Stop being dramatic
It’s just factual. We got blown out by a 7 seed. The Big 10 was overrated and the few elite teams we played, we were really never in contention of winning it.
