An observation and question about the track and field sprinting events.

I don't profess to watch a lot of track and field, but it seems to me like this year, there is a noticeably different "style" of how the runners come out of the blocks. The first few strides do not look at all graceful or efficient, but rather seem to be designed toward absolute maximization of power and explosiveness, without (or with less) regard to form. Only after those first few do the sprinters "settle in" to their otherwise effortless looking form.

Has anyone noticed this or am I imagining it? Is it a newer training philosophy?
It's not new.
