Suriano to Rutgers?

No offense to Gobblin but i take what he says with a grain of salt. I'll believe it when i see it (Mostly because i hate setting myself up for a letdown). Same goes with CP, Willie, and any other "insider" for that matter. It seems to me over the years, the guys who post the least, know the most. Sneaky & respected

Hypothetically, of course.

Well sure. All kinds of reasons for leaving a place...won't make the lineup, do not like the staff or atmosphere, does not like the university for some reason. It's why I don't think the B1G should go further in their punishment for it than the NCAA. If Suriano were to transfer to Rutgers, he should not lose a year. Cortez shouldn't have lost a year going to PSU. If you are a young person making a decision based on limited information plus the university and staff giving it's best "face" or maybe even promises that do not pan out, young men and women should not be punished if things change.

I am not an insider or buds with the staff or anything like that but one hears stuff from time to time. I have shared some stuff that came true but have also been off. I heard about Spencer Lee the day before from a pretty credible source but if you put it out there and it doesn't happen...the home fans get pissed off at you and the away fans mock you. I like to hear it all but common sense dictates that what you hear today may not be the case in a week or a month. Gobblin or anybody else are not God speaking the word to Moses...shit changes.

Agree with this 100%. If Nick Suriano is unhappy at PSU - not saying he is - I don't see why the B1G has to go further than the NCAA in making this hard on him. Especially in wrestling - his options are limited.

I haven't made any comments here or on BWI about the situation because I know absolutely nothing, but have seen the Suriano's at events since Nick was in elementary. They are about as Jersey as they come - don't mean that in a bad way, I'm an Italian who lives on the border lol - and RU might have been the best choice from him from the start. I could definitely see him being homesick in a place like PSU. Or Iowa, for that matter.

My totally uneducated guess is that they were greatly considering future wrestling success when it came down to PSU and Iowa, and now that they are confident he can win a NC with a season under their belt, they know HE can do it at a place that is not quite PSU or Iowa. So why not explore the place he would be more comfortable at. RU - urban campus, NYC close, north jersey feel all the way. I know - I went there. Posters who conjecture this has anything to do with wrestling style I would also give a big uneducated bahaaaaahaaaahaaaa to. I would wager this has much more to do with the college experience than the college wrestling room. Could also be money, as I'm sure RU would ante up a full. Positive on that.

Even as a PSU fan, there is no way the B1G should interject themselves into this. But it is what it is and I am highly doubtful this will come to bear. He will still need a waiver (not a release) to get his 3rd year back. And barring a family situation, not sure what they can come up with to qualify. I'm also not surprised that this has been leaked, knowing the RU staff (which I do). So much of the rumor has probably been slanted that way, and I also wouldn't be surprised if it was dead in the water, that they would still be chumming. Plus, Pritzlaff is a good coach who kids really like. I could definitely see a Jersey kid wanting to come home and wrestle for him.

At the end of the day though, plenty of kids want to leave after their first year at college. Some do, but many don't and magically the second year is a TON better (talking about kids in general, not just athletes).

I could write a short novel about the things I've heard and wanted to share, but haven't over the past few months... Lots of great things happening in Iowa City and a lot of dramatic story lines to go with much of it. It's a really phun time to be an Iowa wrestling fan right now.

Wish I could share some of the names that are in talks to join the HWC... When some of those dominos start falling it's really gonna get phun!

If you ever need someone to proofread or edit your stories for your novel in the future I can be that guy. ;)

It's crazy how long this rumor has been chugging along. Nothing to do but sit back and watch. All we can worry about is who's coming into our program. Hopefully we're shopping sImart.

Don't want this to be taken as an offense to Gobblin either, but you always have to take these things with a grain of salt. Insiders are talking to coaches, wrestlers or other staff - who naturally look at things from the home school perspective. And these guys as a rule are optimistic guys who think they can get everything done. Whether at Iowa, PSU or Rutgers.

I have a good friend who is very, very good friends with Cael. They go fishing together, dinner together, etc. I talk to him about PSU wrestling every time we talk. He is a super fan, who is all PSU all the time. Over the years, I've learned to tone down his info to about 60% on the PSU meter (used to be 83% but then I adjusted). I might even be better served to go about 50%, but then again, I'm a PSU fan also.

This is very true. It's why I don't automatically dismiss rumors after a kids freshman year as being false. Many of those same "struggling" kids end up gutting it out and loving their college experience. We'll see what happens with Nick. He probably won't regret whatever decision he makes.

What's the bet and what are the stakes?
I have no idea - was responding to idea of you and NYWrestler betting. I have no inside info on this, only guesses as I posted above. NYWrestler probably does as I suppose you have your own sources at Iowa.

If I had to guess, smart money on him staying. A 25% (really grasping at straws because I really have no idea how the B1G makes decisions about anything) to RU. Suriano to Iowa - about 3% (I don't know, maybe his dad gets transferred???)

This is how it usually works out...kid goes away to college, may not have friends, hates it the first month blah blah blah. By the end of first semester, they are partying their ass off. Nick has had a year there. Maybe not for him. I think the only thing that would stop them right now is the lost year.

No betting for me ‍♂️

The experience with my kids has been end of semester - want to come home. End of 1st year - one still wanted to come home, one didn't.

On the other hand, I liked to party and was more of what you just posted. One month in I wanted to stay - unfortunately, I was partying my way home.

My experience wasn't unlike college. Got to my first base and lived in the dorms as a new Airman. Didn't have any friends for the first month or two because I was in a higher ranking dorm because they didn't have room for me in another dorm. Ended up linking up with a guy from the Bronx, a dude from Southie, one from Philly, and a guy from Houston, Tx. Still keep in contact with a few of them. And yes...we were trouble.

How about a bet to Wrestling for Life?

As Chief said, things change constantly these days. Who knows? Suriano is probably home for the summer right now and maybe it's making him think things. Or maybe nothing happens. We'll see.

Gotcha...Yea, I think Pyles backtracked on it a bit. Plus, the PSU guys are sweating balls over on BWI so I think there is something to it.
Quite possibly but the way it was explained if I remember correctly it had more to do with weight choice than it did him being home sick. He's got the choice of driving a few hours when he wants to unwind at home as opposed to having to wait for a break and hopefully catch a plane home, something I knew all too well my first year of school

I've made bets here before and contributed to WFL (even though I won). Unfortunately, with the dough I just layed out for our summer place at the Jersey Shore and the accompanying money I'm going to lay out while there, I've got zero (or maybe negative) disposable income for the next couple months. Hit me up in November.

PSU wants to keep him at 125 and he wants to go 133...hmmm.

Hey guys, you all wouldn't happen to know a team that needs a good 33?

That may have been the rumor, but it just doesn't seem kosher given PSU/Cael's track record. Cael was quoted last September as saying he'd like Bo to stay at 174 for the upcoming year - how did that end up working out? Why would he have to stay at 125 this year - for Cory Keener???? Even in future years, is he kicking out 3 years of Suriano for Teasdale to get an extra year at 133? Or for Busiello or some other recruit who has never wrestled a day at D1? Doesn't make sense...

To me, going home to a comfortable college environment makes the most sense.

YoungGuns on BWI saying it is confirmed...
Further post by YoungGuns saying stuff going on with Mr. Suriano and staff. Nick wants to stay at PSU so he doesn't lose a year.

Who the heck really knows??? Mr. Suriano always seemed to me (not from anything else but competitions) as a strong willed guy so maybe not surprising. Although he was also pleasant. But I could definitely see him playing hardball in a situation like this.

174 is not 125. You guys had a line like a women's bathroom waiting to fill 165/174/184. Who do you have to fill 125 this year?

What's the difference come NCAA time? A couple of points??? Cortez is not going 133.

I know you guys don't like Cael, but he's certainly not stupid. But he's also not going to cowtow to anyone, so that may be the case here.
