out of the over 1 million living university of iowa alumni (guesstimate), the recent email says the collective grew by 1,200 members in the past year. I believe there was around 2,000 members prior to that--so im guessing less than 4,000 members total but not positive.

i am suprised that tens of thousands of people will pay money for season tickets, clothing, food/etoh, spend half a day at the game etc, but not pony up 20$/month (240$/year tax deductible) to join the swarm to potentially see an improved product on the field. if 20$/mo members increased to 20,000 members total, then they would collect close to $4million more a year to spend on NIL.
They need some shake down people on staff.

because they realize it's not headed in the correct and righteous direction.

Stuff like this is so galling to me. Is it righteous that coaches get paid millions and millions of dollars? What is unrighteous about players getting some?
There’s a something a little unsettling about how quickly NIL went from players selling autographs to million-dollar, pay-for-play contracts. Then again, as you point out, the money has been in college athletics for a long time on the coaching and administration sides. Sadly it’s not amateur athletics, it’s a billion dollar product

Yeah that's it, let's do some extortion. That will look good.

The UI has had around 25-28 thousand students each year divided into 4 levels frosh to senior and grad students. Probably only around 50% of frosh ever graduated or at least that used to be the quit/dropout rate.

So maybe 4K-5,000 graduate a year and most who graduated before 1960 are dead or dont care about NIL. So I would guess 60 years times 4,500 grads is about 250,000 to 300,000 living alumni.

And the vast, vast number of them are not big hawk football and bball fans. So maybe 50K-100K are avid fans. So 4,000 swarm members out of that last number is not that bad.

Really? 4000 is not that bad?

How come same or smaller sized Colleges have NIL groups with 10,000+ members.

I'm curious are you a SWARM member?

Maybe a lot of hawk fans are burnt out on Kirk's offense and do not want to NIL.

I have answered the question before about being SWARM member and the answer is no. I will re-tell my main reasons which are 1) I bought 2 to 4 season football tickets from 1973 to 2019, 2) many years season tickets for Bball 3) donated to the Alumni Assoc and I-Club for years 4) made my seating donations, 5) we also donated to educational parts of the UI.

Now we are both retired and on a fixed income, some investment income, and our retirement funds. We have been donating to other places like food banks, mental and social services, a hospital, public radio and TV for many years. Those agencies need our money more than the hawks with their TV contract money and a lot of rabid, younger fans with money to donate.

hopefully people realize this thing has gone down the wrong road. hopefully. those who think the swarm is the answer, hopefully they are proven to be wrong, it's about football. it's about paying people for the nil., it's not about pay to play. I am hoping some team like alabama or michigan gets nailed somehow
More than likely, those are the type of schools that will thrive under this new system and programs like Iowa will be left behind. But, keep hoping...

I "somewhat" understand your position however when you mentioned TV contract money which is in the millions none of that is used to provide funds for the students like NIL does.

I stopped my I Club donations and direct that money to SWARM, also I still donate to the Alumni Assoc.

Iowa will not be remotely competitive in the major sports without a vigorous NIL

What could go wrong with gambling interest involvement?
How could that happen? Kid is getting $200,000 and his agent says the QB has to keep it under 20 points or no more NIL?
Point shaving is going to be big time!

I think the key about rabid, younger fans. Current generation of younger fans aren't rabid much. Not there thing. There are reasons why so many gray/blue hairs at Carver.

These days most everyone is pointing fingers at the other person claiming they should be the one to join SWARM.

Rico is not a finger pointer, Rico is joiner.

Student sections are selling out in Kinnick. I see lots of lots of grade school/ high school kids in Kinnick at games. My son would kill me if we didn't make it to every football game.

It never is. We know in general attendance has dropped off overall across the country. People want more amenities, etc to go.

Amenities, amen not, the main amenities l looked forward to at Kinnicik were much better bathrooms and more and better water faucets and availability. Peeing in a trough was so 1800's, haha, like about of cows eating or drinking water at a trough.

I went to games to watch the games and be with the other fans. The seatbacks were a good invention because so many people were very big, I am big but not very big, and people without tickets for that row would squeeze in to sit with friends. Before seatbacks you would get squished sideways in your seat.

What amenities do all of you need to have or want to have?

Now youngsters go to games and spend half of it looking at their phones.

This is true, I have a 10 and 9 year old grandsons living in Iowa who go to some games. The parents dont let them take their devices into the games but they can get a little bored at times. I have been with them at games and they do get excited at times when games are close at the end, which they have seen many of.

You can't scramble up eggs and then expect to separate them and put them back in the shell.

NIL won't be going away, and IOWA fans can't expect a handful of corporations to carry the water for SWARM.

This conference is growing and teams with extra deep pockets are joining the B1G, every man, woman, and child who cheer for the Hawkeyes need to pony up and join SWARM or we will not, I repeat not be competitive.

Put up or shut up time has arrived.

What kind of fan are you?
I love the Hawks, but I am the kind of fan who has lost interest in most of the professional sports already. College sports is moving at a break - neck pace to that end. I will shut up, I guess. Most of the players worthy of this NIL money will make big money in professional sport. I don't feel the need to make them rich in college.

Attendance has dropped because of cost, not amenities. +, every game is televised.
BS. How many times have we heard the I got a 75" high def tv, I don't have to burn an entire day, I can get right to my bathroom and to my frig, etc. And its crowded as hell in the seats. Exactly why the NFL teams are cycling through new stadiums every 20 to 25 years now.
