Sweden only has 10 million people and they're very homogeneous.
Wierd that some folks want to take care of their citizens. Strange. What do the leaders have to gain?
Some should try to take care of themselves before getting taxpayers money. Yes, some need help, but some definitely game the system. Are you willing to pay 50% taxes so the dead beat down the street gets free money?
I see the "homogeneous" thing thrown around a lot. What does being "homogeneous" have to do with anything?

If you have insurance coverage, there is a lot of money dedicated to make it happen.
The US spends far more than any other western nation per capita on health care, but the result is plenty of people without coverage.
Ask yourself why we pay so much, have folks without coverage, and have middle of the pack results such as longevity and happiness...

Sweden doesn't have these sorts of differences.
That doesn't explain why they can do those things.
Those factors may make some things easier, but not those.
If you wanted to make Maine a pilot for this sort of thing it might work.
But it wouldn't work nationwide.
US spends way more per capita than others with shitty results. Nothing homogenous about that.
It's not how much you pay, it's how much you are left with.
They are left with free higher education, universal health care, free day care, and more.
We have lower taxes, but most of us are left with less.

If that's the price to make sure that kids and the infirm and others in need are cared for, then yes.
Judging from how you set that up, you'd rather see kids starve if there was even a remote chance some freeloader would get away with it.
I shouldn't have to point out that we can provide for people and ALSO crack down on corruption and fraud.
The tax rate for those making about $50k per year is 52%. It is 57% for those making above about $71,000. The U.S. taxes are less than half that. More importantly, Sweden spends about 5% of its budget on military. Double taxes on the middle class and cut the U.S. military budget to 5% of spending and we would have a shitload more to spend on social welfare.
What a worthless exchange this has been.
