-open beer can?
-solo cup with drink in it?

Are these OK for walking around outside Kinnick and up and down Melrose Avenue?

Yes, as long as you're in a lot and not on the sidewalk walking between lots.
Yes, as long as you conceal the hard liquor bottle. The police will make you dump the bottle out, but they won't look inside your cup (unless it is straight stink liquor).

No you cannot walk outside Kinnick and up and down Melrose with an open container.

So I should just plan to drink Captain and coke all day and walk around with a solo cup.
Thanks

I've seen lots of people on Melrose with an open beer can in hand. Doesn't mean you won't get hassled by a cop, but plenty of it happens.

In general, you'll only be hassled for an open container by the authorities if you are young, obnoxious, clearly having difficulty walking, or some combination of the above. If you aren't any of those things, the worst you can probably expect is to be told to dump out your can.

This was one of the big sticking points when they cracked down on tailgating in 2010. Pretty sure they are way more relaxed about it now, so just don't be a nut and you should be fine.

I don't think so. As long as it isn't too big and there isn't anything disallowed in Kinnick in the back pack.
You aren't allowed to bring in any purses larger than 8.5x11 and no bags of any type allowed in.

From the website:

Only small (8 ½ x 11") purses, fanny packs, binocular cases, blankets and seat cushions will be allowed into Kinnick Stadium. All items will be searched at specific entrance gates. Patrons are subject to search, and the University reserves the right to refuse entry.

The following items are not allowed inside the stadium: bags of any size, alcoholic beverages, botas, all coolers, canned or bottled beverages (except sealed clear plastic water bottles), thermoses, back packs, kegs, banners and signs, personal seat backs, large lens cameras, tripods, umbrellas, strollers, noisemakers, horns, bugles, or any other disruptive device. These items should be left in your vehicle. Admission will be denied anyone carrying any such items.

Never have had a problem with open beer on melrose in university heights. The minute I get to the bridge over the tracks I ditch the beer though.

All the rules that people complain about seem to no longer be enforced. Of course that won't stop people from complaining about them.

OP, don't punch, stab, or rape anybody, and you should be fine.

I've been hassled on more than one occasion for having an open beer on Melrose, and I've never done anything out of line. The worst they make you do is poor it out, though.
