Talk of firing Kirk Ferentz

I like KF and I think he runs a good program. We are always competitive and we average 6-7 wins every year. Just 2 short years ago we were 12-0 and playing in the rose bowl.

I will say this his staff needs to upgrade at the WR position. IF we go into next year w/Easley as our top target we will see the same thing as this year. Loaded box vs the run and no open pass plays.

is absolute bullshit. Grow up you drunken morons. I'm proud to have him as our coach.
I like KF also. Very good person. He just doesn't seem to surround himself with the best available, or he moves extremely succesful coordinators to different positions (lateral moves).

And...to much nepotism (his son, son-in-law). How's that working out for our current country's administration?

We are probably going to be 6-6 this year. Every other program in the conference is on the rise except Illinois and Iowa are in decline. Even Rutgers has a brighter future if something is not done.

RUTGERS.....hahah, lol, ... u should go root for them, hahah ... on the rise...hahah 41-0 loss to IND....hahaha, tks for the laugh.

It's silly to beat up a subject we know ain't happening.

He refuses to trust his players during a season where the biggest challenges they've faced, he had zero choice other than to do exactly that. Ironically, those 3 games were the best Iowa played this year.

ALL the other games, he placed his team in a plastic bubble.

Never gave his offense a chance yesterday...that's what is disheartening about this year.

Michigan's on the rise??? They are going to be 8-5 (5-4) after next week. Nebraska's on the rise? Minny is on the 'rise'. Lol. Fail! Why does everyone have to be as impulsive as a 10 yr. old, exaggerate so much, and be so hyperbolic on this site. Can't anyone just make a point in an intelligent, mature manner?

At least they are trying.

He has done good things. There have been good times. I thank him for that.

It's time to move on though.
agree. i have been one who was on the kirk bandwagon forever. he is a man of class, the program is hardly ever in trouble and the players take after the coach. i have always worried about who we bring in next, will they stay if they are successful . i was one who was so unhappy with greg davis he was horrible and i am not so sure that this year is not worse . i was stunned yesterday offensively . i watched brohm on the side line and i wonder why cant our coach get that excited ? why cant he show some passion ? after vandeburg fumbled that punt as he was coming off the field he slapped him on the ass as if to say keep trying , why not chew on him a little bit he is a 5th year senior. it is time hawkeye fans to move to another chapter with another coach.

We're stuck with KF. And yes, he is a good man. And he has some strengths as a football coach.

But I think KF has a hidden mental health issue which prevents him from addressing his shortcomings as a coach. I don't think KF himself realizes this.

I'm not kidding.

And BF probably has this too, perhaps not as hidden. Did he really punch a wall and break his hand? We know he had an expletive-laced tirade in the press box.

Kirk will never be fired.

The academics that run the university do not appear to care about athletics. The money keeps rolling in, so Barta’s job is safe. Barta will not stand up to Kirk, so Kirk’s job is safe.

Actually, we should all hope Barta stays as long as possible, because I have a sneaky suspicion the next AD will be a woman.

We seem to have lost that "chip on our shoulder " that drives our program during successful seasons. Sans the Ohio State game we have seemed uninterested in competing this year. Our losses have all been ugly and barely squeaking by Minnesota is almost inexcusable.

Nebraska will score a lot of points on us....and even with their historically bad defense , our offense will manage 10-13 points. Imagine the husker dialog when maybe their worst team ever beats us soundly.

as you can tell Im not a football fan to the extent I post very little on FB forum..

has Iowa FB under Fry & Ferentz the last 39 years been decent?...surely we would all agree.

has their been disappointing games?
...u betcha...even a few disappointing seasons.

Is Ferentz perfect? nope neither are his players...Is the opponent trying?....to win...why surely.

My last comment...if you are on the side to get rid of Ferentz (which wont happen until he hangs it up)....be careful...the next head coach is NEVER A GUARANTEE...

Yep Steve Alford was an big uptick over Tom Davis...

Oh, Iowa's players aren't 'trying'. The coaches aren't 'trying'. Got it. This is exactly what I'm talking about.
They sure as hell do not look like they are trying! People like you who think below .500 in the conference and 6-6 is a good year are what is wrong with this program.

Good post. It really is pretty much exactly how I feel.

I did see one coaching positive yesterday he moved jackson over to cover the Purdue receiver that was gashing rugamba other wise the score could have been 38 to 15 I fully expect a different looking team in Lincoln.I will say if we lose to nebby I will become less optimistic about the future of the program.

I don't agree. When he called the 'drop the pass' play a couple times, it worked. It killed the drive and we punted.

Chances were there and the players didn't care.

More ignorant hyperbole. Is this board dominated by 12 yr. olds? Show me where I ever said that 6-6 is a good year. We'll wait. Posters just make stuff up out of thin air all the time and make exaggerated, moronic assumptions constantly, thinking they're strengthening their 'opinions' and marginalizing others. How middle school. A lot of it is poorly conducted confirmation bias.
I'm not exactly sure what's 'wrong' with this team this year, but it's obvious what's wrong with the board.

I actually think this team pushes too hard leading to stupid mistakes all over the place. If you read about what the players said about the Ohio St. game they talked about how they had nothing to lose and they came out and played loose.

The very best thing that could happen to Iowa Athletics right now is for GB to announce his retirement due to health issues. It's absolutely amazing to me that he has survived the numerous scandals he's been involved in. It proves that no one in UI Administration has the balls to fire anyone.

We could then only hope that whoever the new AD is has at least some interest in fielding winning teams, and not just pride himself on fundraising, in one of the easiest places to raise money. The new AD might light a fire under KF and maybe we could see another '02-'04-type run prior to his retirement, and the program would be in better shape bringing in the new coach.

With GB and KF at the status quo, I see nothing but more years of similar agony. What I really don't understand is how these two have such unconditional support from all of Iowa's big boosters. Don't we not have any rich fans who actually want to win games? It's like KF's aw-shucks attitude has permeated throughout. I myself could not imagine spending thousands and thousands every year to sit in a sky box and watch all this crap, with the attitude of "oh, goodie, Nashville is gonna be a swell trip this year. Maybe we could stay there a few extra days and watch Wisconsin play in the CFP from a bar at the Opry Mills." Any richies on this board wanna explain it to me?

KF has been at the helm a good 5+ years too long already. The chances of things completely turning around under his watch are minuscule at best.

What? Tell me what is wrong with this board. As much as there is ignorant hyperbole from the fire ferentz side, there is also the same hyperbole from the ferentz is untouchable side. The coaching staff deserves a ton of criticism for that crap show yesterday.

That is what you believe the problem is? The players are trying to hard? Are you even watching the game because everyone else sees the exact opposite.

You speak for EVERYONE? How do you accomplish that. Did you receive 70,000+ texts, or did you speak to all of them individually? Classic!

Yes, it is ALL the hyperbole that is the problem. People don't know how to just share facts and their feelings these days without going way over the top. But when you see what passes for entertainment and news on the telly, it shouldn't surprise us I guess.

Ugh. If I hear the ol "careful what you wish for. Remember what happened with dr tom" I'm gonna be sick. With that logic we should never fire anyone. We should have stuck w lick and let him totally destroy the bb program. Thankfully, someone pulled the plug on that disaster and we brought in a better coach that has made us competitive again.
Look i realize its better to be average than to suck. I get it. But, contrary to popular belief, there are many, many good coaches out there that would love the opportunity to coach our beloved hawks. Hell, we might even find someone that allows us to be competitive every year. Imagine that.

Kirk Ferentz = the ultimate Fat Cat. Brian Ferentz is NOT the best candidate KF could have hired! That's a failure by KF for the Iowa football program. He doesn't own Iowa football! It's not his to just hand over to his son, in spite of there being better candidates. His son-in-law is NOT the best candidate for a P5 recruiting coordinator. I'm not even sure how anyone can defend that. His daughter just happened to meet and marry a great college football recruiter?
If you want to keep Kirk Ferentz. FINE. Put someone else in charge of hiring assistant coaches. Preferably NOT his immediate family members. Get someone else for an AD. One that doesn't drop his pants and bend over, every time he sees a Ferentz.

I am going to LMAO @ all of you “Hawkeye fan” posers when Iowa goes on to play in the NCAA Playoffs in 2019.

You’ll still be singing the what ifs, if Iowa doesn’t win the whole thing.

Stick to shaving your armpits and getting brazilian wax jobs sweety, and leave football to those that have an inkling of what's going on. Oh, and we're still waiting for you to answer my question from yesterday. You won't and can't. Stick to picking on nite wing because you're overmatched against anyone else cupcake....oh, I forgot, he blocked you, LMAO!

This conversation has been ongoing for the better part of a decade. So and so wide receiver, quarterback, insert skill position needs an upgrade, then our offense will be better.
