Talk of firing Kirk Ferentz

I like KF and I think he runs a good program. We are always competitive and we average 6-7 wins every year. Just 2 short years ago we were 12-0 and playing in the rose bowl.

I will say this his staff needs to upgrade at the WR position. IF we go into next year w/Easley as our top target we will see the same thing as this year. Loaded box vs the run and no open pass plays.
True, but I'd settle for someone who can actually make a catch first instead of dropping anything thrown their way.

I have gained quite a bit perspective in life the last couple years, and it made me re-evaluate my former rabid obsession with sports and how outcomes of games affected the rest of my day/weekend.
That's happened with most people. Myself included. I was in attendance yesterday, my Saturday and weekend were not ruined. Congrats on your maturity.

Whether KF stays or goes and whether Iowa goes 10-2 or 6-6 in a season, its just a game. I just do not have any expectations when it comes to hawkeye football. Michigan last year, Ohio State this year, some head slappers against non conference cupcakes over the years proves that any result regardless of opponent should not be a shock to anybody.

Shouldn't be a shock? I'm reading a lot of passionate posts about how heads should roll. Contrary to the idea that how outcomes of games shouldn't so severely impact the daily lives of people who've gained perspective (by simply aging a bit).

If you want to question peoples' "fandom" thats fine. the bare sections in the north end zone on saturday shows there is a problem with the product, whether you think so or not.

Can't argue much with this, offer your suggestions. Do you happen to know someone pining for this gig who would improve things?

There are a ton of real dumb people saying a lot of real dumb stuff! I have sooo many dumb things I heard I wish i would have kept a list! But just for a couple! I hear the crying "play the freshmen" well ...this is what happens (inconsistent) at this level when you have as many under class men on the field at once ...live with it.....it will pay huge dividends down the road ...so quit crying today! I've also seen the "put the track guys (wide receivers) out there and let them play" soooo all it takes is to be fast to play now??? Another dumb comment! I also like how people joke about wide receivers not playing because they cant down field block. So let me get this straight ......we should play all the physically gifted freshmen (even tho they've only be out of high school for a few months) remove down field blocking from the WR's lists of duties and finish the season 13-0. Must of these cry baby, Chicken little (The sky is falling) will be pretty quite next year I'm guessing! One more thing ....fire the coach .....yeah ....lets be like Neb. they'll probably be paying 3 head coaches next year .....lets be like them! They have gotten worse every year for the last 3 or 4 since they thought it would be a good idea to fire there coach. I'm really glad the people in charge are smarter they the drunken dummies posting on here ...we would never win a game!!

There are a lot of people who let a win/loss determine how the rest of their weekend goes. I used to be like that.
I still try to attend one or two games a year like I have for the past 15 yrs.

this board yoyo's depending on the result of the game. If you have watched Iowa at all over the years, nothing should surprise you as far as results of a game go.

I will save that for the people that would be more qualified to hire a coach. I won't clamor for his head and fully expect that he will have another good run in a couple years. I do think that the fear of what may happen is no reason to stay with a coach. There can be a separate debate about where that point is.

I was at the Wisconsin game in 2010, and my friend I went with is from wisconsin and said "if you weren't a fan of either team, that was an entertaining game" I agreed. It was more entertaining than some wins I have seen at Kinnick (Minnesota this year being a good example). If the product is entertaining, the bare spots in the EZ will take care of themselves.

Yup everyone wants change, but what happens if the change is worse and we don't make a bowl game for 5-6 years?? Then what? We all thought KOK was horrible and wanted change and look what it got us?

KF is a good coach and he has a few shortcomings, but the losses this year are probably 30% on coaching and 70% on player execution. Lets face it, we do not have the talent to overcome big mistakes. Our defense was deceent, but youth in a couple of key positions cost us. On offense we have a lot of youth and HUGE talent gap at WR.
Then you fire the replacement and move forward. We got rid of Alfraud and hired Lickliter. After three years of Lickliter, we fired him and hired Fran. If Fran doesn't work out, I want him fired and a replacement hired. Coaches come and go but the program remains. When you stubbornly stick with mediocre because you fear the unknown, it's a lot longer climb out of the cellar.
IMO, KF needs to change 2 things.
Hire better recruiting coordinator/assistant coaches.
Hire an OC and stay the Hell away from the offense (except the OL. He can "poke his head in there" every once in awhile).

Ok, true, there are a lot more teams that DON'T win a conference championship every year than teams that DO. But this attitude that permeates throughout the Iowa fan base about being scared to move on to another coach is such a defeatist, loser mentality. Right now we are a heck of a lot closer to Illinois' level than we are Wisconsin's level, and I see very little on the horizon to think that things might change anytime soon, other than the "easier schedule" argument that most people use, which is also for losers.
not defeatist just realist . you have heard it before and you will hear it again 2 names alford and lickliter, names to never forget.

agree. i have been one who was on the kirk bandwagon forever. he is a man of class, the program is hardly ever in trouble and the players take after the coach. i have always worried about who we bring in next, will they stay if they are successful . i was one who was so unhappy with greg davis he was horrible and i am not so sure that this year is not worse . i was stunned yesterday offensively . i watched brohm on the side line and i wonder why cant our coach get that excited ? why cant he show some passion ? after vandeburg fumbled that punt as he was coming off the field he slapped him on the ass as if to say keep trying , why not chew on him a little bit he is a 5th year senior. it is time hawkeye fans to move to another chapter with another coach.
Really...you think Vandeburg needed "chewing out" for dropping a punt, as if he didn't know that was the wrong thing to do?

as you can tell Im not a football fan to the extent I post very little on FB forum..

has Iowa FB under Fry & Ferentz the last 39 years been decent?...surely we would all agree.

has their been disappointing games?
...u betcha...even a few disappointing seasons.

Is Ferentz perfect? nope neither are his players...Is the opponent trying?....to win...why surely.

My last comment...if you are on the side to get rid of Ferentz (which wont happen until he hangs it up)....be careful...the next head coach is NEVER A GUARANTEE...

Yep Steve Alford was an big uptick over Tom Davis...
Good post.

Ugh. If I hear the ol "careful what you wish for. Remember what happened with dr tom" I'm gonna be sick. With that logic we should never fire anyone. We should have stuck w lick and let him totally destroy the bb program. Thankfully, someone pulled the plug on that disaster and we brought in a better coach that has made us competitive again.
Look i realize its better to be average than to suck. I get it. But, contrary to popular belief, there are many, many good coaches out there that would love the opportunity to coach our beloved hawks. Hell, we might even find someone that allows us to be competitive every year. Imagine that.
So, you're comparing Lickliter basketball era to Kirk Ferentz football era...LOL.

yes i do .it takes big balls to be a head coach.
I've had plenty of head coaches in various sports. In particular, one baseball coach who was really respected, had the philosophy that there's no need to get all up in a players face right after he strikes out. No sh*t, that player know he struck out. However, if it becomes a "habit" then work with him in practice to lessen the strikeouts. I think that's a good analogy to a punt returner dropping a punt.

Yes, it absolutely is the same set of issues that we see every season. And every season, the same set of apologists never fail to come back and tell us how these issues will be better next year, because of all of the youthful talent. And next year they will be better because they will have the experience that they lack now.
It's as sure as death and taxes.
Except for programs like Alabama and Ohio State, don't your think that EVERY fan base bitches about lack of talent at certain positions, etc.

Absolutely. And even those fans bitch about it. But we've had the pleasure of bitching about 1 particular position for 19 seasons. WR. You can't have a great team with good WRs. PLURAL. We rarely have more than 1 competent P5 quality WR on the offense. The times we have, lead to better offense and more wins.

You are drawing really bad comparisons. KF to Lick? Just two years ago we went 12-0, then 8-5 last year. That isn't average. I don't care how bad at Math you are. Do you realize that KF's winning percentage the last two years is better than Fran's? Yet you say Fran is competitive and KF isn't. Stop, and think about it. Saturday was very upsetting, but wanting KF fired, in what most knowledgeable fans knew was a rebuilding year, is just idiotic at this point.

Stick to shaving your armpits and getting brazilian wax jobs sweety, and leave football to those that have an inkling of what's going on. Oh, and we're still waiting for you to answer my question from yesterday. You won't and can't. Stick to picking on nite wing because you're overmatched against anyone else cupcake....oh, I forgot, he blocked you, LMAO!
He put me on ignore a year ago when he was doing the same thing, and I started destroying him with facts.
