Teasdale

Iowa - 3 in finals and 7 AA
PSU- 4 in finals and 6 or 7 AA.

Iowa needs to bonus where it can and hope for a PSU upset, maybe Soriano, McCutchen or Joseph go down early and end of up with bad draw. If Brooks and Meyer can reach there potential we could have a great run in St. Louis.

Excited for the real competition and to see some top matchups. Especially PSU vs Iowa duel.
No offense, agree with what you're saying, but none of this shit matters if Iowa doesn't show up in St. Louis, which they haven't as a team for years. If it's status quo prepare to be disappointed. I'll hope for the best but until they show it's changed, it ain't changed. That's the reality. They need to move that needle in the opposite direction. No time like the present.

I really thought on Friday night last year during ncaa's that the Hawks had broke through and were peaking at the tournament. Then I woke up and watched Saturday...

soooooooo Penn State wins 6 in 7 years and it is bad for the sport.

Iowa wins 20 in 25 years and that is apparently all good for the sport?
Very confused
The difference being; hawks did it with Gable taking lower rated recruites, teaching them to be better, being in better condition and out working other schools. Gable also was always trying to do whatever was possible to help wrestling improve for every school. Dan never had more than a couple top rated recruites sign in any two years....so really no comparison. Now you don't have to be confused any longer.

Prep wrestling has drastically changed from Gables era. Kids are more polished and experience. Ranks systems although not perfect are vastly improved over the 1-2 published rankings of the 80s

Gable most likely would've changed his recruiting philosophy much faster then Brands has done.

Even in the early 90s the recruiting landscape was stating to change. As wrestling programs started to be eliminated Iowa became less dominate compare to 70s-mid 80s. Gables last 11 yrs yielded 6 team championships.

Conditioning edge was removed by Gables own coaching tree and others.

It is all about recruiting top guys these days. No matter what people on here want to think. Just look at Iowa's top prep talent. Do they just wrestle here in Iowa or do they attend national tournaments? These kids have been going to these tournaments since MS not just last 1-2 years of HS.

Developing kids still happens obliviously just not to the degree of yesteryears. If you carry that premise into the future that means "coaching up"has less to do w ultimate success of a program

Umm yeah. Because Penn State is a bigger entity in college sports. It's the same with Ohio State vs Purdue.

Purdue winning championships represents parity or that you can build champions and even sustain them say if they did it like Iowa wrestling, at a smaller school. Meanwhile if it were Ohio STATE with a monopoly then it just looks like the Yankees throwing hundreds of millions to buy the best team.........which is what the top teams in major college sports are doing now anyways.

So long story short......Penn State needs to gtfo of the championship circle. Thank you.

Good luck with that last sentence.

Baloney.

Gable got the pick of the litter.

Just getting recruited by him gave you bragging rights when Iowa was in its heyday.

The idea that he coached up a bunch of pikers is just message board myth-making.

He was a great coach who took great athletes to great heights.

It's weird that a lot of Hawk fans seem to be ashamed of that.

That's exactly what he was, A GREAT COACH. He took lessor rated wrestlers and made them NCAA champs. I was there, were you??? He out worked and out coached everyone else. So don't try to rationalize things you now nothing about by posting things only you could possibly believe. If you don't have the facts don't try to make them up.

State titles
Ironside-2 (2XNCAA Champ)
Daryl Weber-2 (NCAA Champ)
Joel Sharrat-2 (NCAA Champ, 3XAA)
Kevin Dresser-2 (NCAA Champ, 2AA)
Jim Zalesky-2 (3XNCAA Champ)
Terry Brands-2(2XNCAA Champ)
Tom Brands-1 (3XNCAA Champ)
Doug Schwab-1 (NCAA Champ, 3XAA)
I don't think Whitmer won a state title but no list is complete without him.

Those are just a few but some pretty big names who weren't coming out of high school. Gable's way was to recruit a few top line guy and develop others into champs. That's why he insisted getting guys that were "his type" vs an all star. We have see this in Brands recruiting up until now.

Cael is to recruiting what Gable was to developing. It's weird to see PSU fans ashamed of that.

Weber
Kinseth
Fulhart
Steiners
Yagla
That's not including all the wrestlers who never won a state title and became all americans under Dan.

And you are saying Cael does none of those things?

I don't see where i said ONE think about Cael. I just said that some poster's do not know one thing about what they are trying to say. That they twist things so it sounds good to them without knowing anything about the situation or the facts. All anyone has to do is read what I wrote. Can't be too difficult.

What are the chances Teasdale is career '25 and he gets ridden like a cheap whore at a motorcycle swap meet and face mushed on the reg by his BFF in the short future?? Honest question... I mean he is 18 years old and still not the biggest '26lber.

I was thinking the same thing about Gavin possibly not growing any more. I hate losing him and normally wouldn't have any grudges, but his inability to be a man of his word screwed over other recruits as well. Penn State fans were 100 times harder on Gavin than us, and we are the ones who got screwed in the deal. They have also been bashing Jody prior to this. While I'm at it, their fan base had a meltdown just 3 weeks ago after Carl's team underperformed at Big Tens.

This is a possibility but I think he would have to wrestle 133 there as well, I don't think he can beat Suriano either

He seems like he just hit his growth spurt this last year. Seems more likely to grow into 141 than be a 125er. Suriano on the other hand may also outgrow 125. He's jacked and reportedly (BWI) at like 4% body fat.

Indeed... The hypocrisy is nauseating.

Is the timing of this coincidental or not?

NLWC now has 2 guys currently ranked at 57kg (Higuchi #2, Megaludis #16), 2 guys currently ranked at 65kg (Molinaro #7, Gomez #11) and a former 66kg Olympic Gold (Yonemitsu) rolling around in their room.

I doubt it was GT's idea to screw over Iowa by postponing announcement, but I wouldn't be surprised if the staff at PSU knew the ramifications and were happy to see it play out the way it did.

Suriano will be lucky to pull '25 this fall, let alone in 2018/19...

Woah, not sure where you are getting this amigo. Not true. Suriano just fine at 25 for next year. He ain't Nato, then again who is? "Pocket Hercules" Nato, now there is a kid who isn't seeing 25 ever again, no matter what Willie claims.

The irony of this is Gable didn't use any PA recruited wrestlers if any to accomplish this. Maybe one or two.
