Thanks Wiscy, THE Hawkeyes in 1st all alone!

Nice to get a little help.

indy's good, no doubt. But dakich was WAY off, not surprisingly, when he said that it didn't matter who they'd played. OF COURSE IT MATTERS WHO THEY PLAYED. Their weak early slate is going to get a lot tougher from here on out.

Indiana is not as good as Purdue, Michigan and maybe MSU. Wisconsin, while one dimensional, is gaining steam.

Never worse than 4th place for Wisconsin? I know Wisky fans were delusional about how good this year's team was going to be after loosing Kaminski and Dekker.

Huge game for the B1G championship. I said early last week that 3 games would be critical for the Hawks to win a B1G championship. MSU beat Mary Land. Iowa beat Purdue. AND Wisky beat IU.

If the Hawks beat Mary Land, we are really in the driver's seat. Still a lot of games to play, but it is looking better all of the time. GO HAWKS!:)

Yeah, don't think they'll climb that high. I could see 6th or 7th.

Thomas Bryant is a really good freshman (and I hope he is one and done), but once Happ figured out that he was quicker and could take it right at him, Bryant couldn't guard him. No one on IU could guard Nigel Hayes when he isolated on the block. All they could do was foul him, and down the stretch he found his stroke from the FT line.

Weird game. IU had 6 assists and 19 TOs. Yogi got his only assist with about 2 min left. Wisky only had 5 assists. Sure a lot more fun watching teams like Iowa and Michigan that move the ball.

IU had no one who could guard Hayes or Happ, if they cleared out. It really exposed IU's defense. Wisconsin won despite an awful game by Koenig.
That one surprised me. I don't watch every bucky game by any means, but I don't remember koenig playing so poorly.

I thought the graphic during the game was interesting where it said that IU had trailed in the 2nd half in 4 of their 7 B1G games prior to tonight. That would have been against Rutgers, Nebraska, Wisconsin (1st game in Bloomington), and Minnesota, correct?

Meanwhile, if I'm not mistaken, we've only trailed in the 2nd half once, at Purdue? So that's against a schedule that includes Purdue x2, Sparty x2, and Michigan, plus projected lower-divisions Nebby and Rutgers.

Hopefully, we can start to separate some now, as those two records might suggest will eventually happen...

ya I have a feeling...the B1G officials are starting to revert back to the old day....the holding & grabbing on Jok on sunday was pretty much ignored...I guess we will see..

That has more to do with our future success than who we play. It has been nice watching a McCaffery coached team allowed to run it's offense. Let's hope it continues.

Dan Dimwit said, "It is not who you play, but how you play."
He was trying cover up the weak Big Ten Schedule of Indiana
so far. He hinted that Indiana was playing good enough to
beat anyone in the conference. SURPRISE.....Competition
against good team does matter. Thanks to Wisconsin,
Dan Dimwit can now eat humble pie.

Bottom Line: Indiana has Dan Dimwit and Duke has Dick
Vitale. Both are homers who do not even try to be neutral.

Maryland has always been the elephant in the room (well, after we got MSU twice). If we get this one Thursday I like our chances.

I agree with that. It is time for Mary Land to lose a home game in the B1G.
Sounds extremely simple, but we just need to keep doing what we've been doing. Good to great starts, not too many scoring droughts that we made famous previously, and we've completely flipped the switch on the start of the 2nd half swoon that's killed us for a couple of years at least. We get up, and stay up, for the most part that's been true. Keep putting the biscuit in the basket (My God its sooooo good to have real shooters for a change.................).

Did I read this right? Wisky guy shot 22 free throws?
Didn't check the box score, but saw the last 3 seconds of OT and they had a graphic - Wisky 36 FTs (?) to IU's 17 FTs. Home cooking for Wisky in this game.

Also, I think most of you realize that assists are an ambiguous and meaningless statistic, right?

You are mistaken. We trailed in second half of both Purdue games (we were behind at halftime Sunday) and at least briefly against Michigan.

Indiana couldn't play ANY post defense and Wisky just pounded it inside in yhe second half.

If you watched, you would have seen Yogi barreling down the lane with more no calls.

Hayes played facing the hoop & then driving to draw fouls.

Indiana didn't get cheated out of anything. Wisconsin took it to them in the painted area & that was the difference.

I was pulling for Wis, so some bias here...but it seemed like Indiana got more than it's share of favorable whistles (even though homer Dan Dakich thinking otherwise)

Wisky very average. We kill em
Ditto Indiana

Two things struck me while watching the game:
1. Other than Nigel Hayes, Wisconsin is very slow. I presume that Hayes will draw Jok as a defensive assignment. The resulting mismatch with whomever tries to guard Uthoff should favor Iowa massively. While Gesell is no where close to as fast as Farrell, Gesell should have a really good game as well. If Iowa brings its B game against Wisconsin, it should win.
2. Indiana had no answer for Nigel Hayes. It was, essentially, get the ball to Hayes and he would score or get fouled. Uthoff and Jok should be able to put up similar results. Farrell is elusive and quick but he will have trouble getting shots to the rim when he drives. Woodbury, Uthoff, Uhl, Baer, etc. should have plenty of opportunities to swap away his shots. If Iowa plays solid defense on perimeter, they should prevail - and may do so easily. Winning in Bloomington is always a challenge but I think that individual match-ups favor Iowa greatly. Having a hard time seeing Indiana keep up with Iowa's scoring.

I was impressed by Indiana's offense. Ferrell is smooth. Their interior defense looked very soft, even with that monster they have inside. I think Iowa should have opportunities to score inside there, which would only open things up on the outside.

Wisconsin is not the same. Even if their talent level is down, they still usually take care of the ball and run better offense than what we saw last night. Still, I for one am glad the Hawks don't play up there this season.
