The CC Show....

Fever with three winnable games in a row coming up. They could get over .500 in the next week and are currently right on the heels of Phoenix for the 6th playoff position.
Honestly, I don’t see how they don’t overtake the mercury. I actually think they end up giving the aces a run for the 5 spot. Might come down to a tiebreaker.

Indiana 100, Chicago 81.

Indiana wins the season series 3-1 and now holds the playoff tie-breaker over both the Sky and the Dream. That probably won’t matter, though. The Fever are now 16-16 after starting the season 2-9. They have pulled even with Phoenix and because they swept the season series with the Mercury they currently hold the #6 seed in the playoff race.

A career high 31 points to go along with 12 assists for Caitlin. 23 points for Kelsey Mitchell. Angel Reese stat-padded her way to her 23rd double-double of the season, staying in the game until the very end and finally reaching the 10 point mark with 1:32 left, after Indiana had already pulled all their starters.

Indiana’s magic number for clinching a playoff spot is now down to 4. Atlanta is playing Las Vegas tonight. A win by the Aces would bring it down to 3.

The Fever play at Dallas on Sunday afternoon and will then play six consecutive home games before closing out the regular season at Washington.

Slight correction to my earlier post - technically the Fever’s magic number is already down to 3. Chicago plays Atlanta on September 17, which means that at least one of those teams will finish with at least 21 losses.

You would have a point if they had actually put together the best team. They did not. Taurasi’s selection to the team rendered their claptrap about “best team” absolutely moot.
Correct…that was proven when the WNBA All Stars whipped the U.S. Olympic team. 😉

Except the Committee stated outright that those were not factors in their decision process.
So, talent wasn’t a factor in the decision-making process? I concur that popularity/growing the sport reportedly weren’t used in decision-making process when picking the team. However, if true, that was very short-sighted and f*cking stupid of them.

More, or less, on the piercings?
Worm is one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. Reese isn't even the best rookie on her own team.

I think a better comparison would be... I don't know.. Dale Davis or something. Maybe Andre Drummond down the line if she continues to improve. Being a good role player isn't a bad thing.. Sky would be wise to treat her as such and to build around Cardoso.

One team's rookie is leading them into the playoffs.

Other team's rookie seems to be padding/pushing stats.
Ironically, prior to the start of the game color commentator Shimmy Miller said “These two rookies are leading the WNBA in different statistical categories…but tonight they don’t care about individual statistics. They only care about one thing and that is winning.”

Yeah…Angel cares about the stats. She has proven multiple times that she will do whatever she has to do to get a double-double.

These are good comps. I admit, the first comp for Angel I came up w was Rodman. Watching her more, she's not an elite defender like Rodman was. She's not slowing down the best forwards in the W. Chicago would be smart to build the offense around Cardosa & surround her with shooters. Not sure Angel's ego could handle being an afterthought on offense, which judging by her shooting % she should be.

So, she was playing against players (and teams) better than her....

I guess that 'splains the 2-9 start.
Also, playing more games early on than other teams, so more travel/less rest likely played a part in it too. 😜

Yea, Rodman was an all world athlete and arguably the greatest rebounder and defender of all-time. He was also one of the most instinctual players ever. The 5-time champ and Hall of Famer is one of the GOATs, that is for sure.

Drummond had/is having a very good career. I don't think him as a comp is a slight at all.. but the Rodman thing, lets pump the brakes on that lol

She'll probably develop into the same at the WNBA and International level, too.

But she clearly was not there yet early this season. That is the point folks here simply refuse to recognize.
Define “early in season”.

U should let the Lynx coach know this.

Because she apparently scouted Clark and knew if you press her hard, she hasn't fully adjusted yet. Had some bad TOs in Saturday's game, where she should have passed the ball off when the double-team was coming.
What’s your beef with Clark? Did she kick you in the balls once?

Come on man.. Just read the thread. He's going to say the same nonsensical bullshit all over again. WE NEED THIS ARGUMENT TO DIE PLEEEEEEASE
Ok…I’m sorry…it’s kind of fun to egg him on. 😉
Again: if only she'd done better before early June.

You keep wanting the TOs to not count.
They count.
You don’t get some turnovers without playing fearless basketball. 😉

OK

Your posts here illustrate exactly what your points have been.
That they do. I enjoy you waving the white flag of taking parts of a sentence and the congratulatory nature of this post. Having no statistics or facts to support your position has to be a little disheartening for you.

You don't win games playing "fearless basketball" turning the ball over as often as you get assists.

Literally why the Fever were 2-9, when her early play was weak. Not until after Olympic selections did her play quality improve - significantly. She is now on-par with Magic Johnson's rookie season in her game efficiency scores, and last night's game was one of her best yet.

I have no "beef".

her recent play is well qualified for rookie-of-the-year vs Reese, AINEC.
Her early play was comparable to Reese, even below Reese's efficiency scores when the Olympic team was named.
I can post a new graphic for you that illustrates that quite clearly, if you'd like. Same updated graphic that compares Clark to Magic Johnson in Game Efficiency

Being a "realist" about her play quality early on, and subsequent improvement is not a "beef". It's just not buying into the early hype when her play was erratic.

Define “early in season”.
Thru the first 15-20 games.

Again - that's been plotted for you. The data are pretty clear.
She was 10-12 on Game Efficiency thru the Olympic selections, dipping below 5 at one point on the 6-game running average right around that selection timeframe. That is VERY poor by the stats metric.

Since then, she has dramatically improved to where she has been >15, and now is exactly in line with Magic Johnson's rookie year.
By any impartial standard, that puts her as one of the greats as a rookie right now.

Ironically, prior to the start of the game color commentator Shimmy Miller said “These two rookies are leading the WNBA in different statistical categories…but tonight they don’t care about individual statistics.

If you simply focus on one or two statistical categories.

That's why I rely on Game Efficiency scores - overall play. And their it's not remotely close. Reese is lagging badly.

Yeah, you’ve mentioned that a few dozen times.

My point was that Shimmy Miller stated that neither Clark nor Reese cared about individual stats last night, only about winning. But Reese demonstrated for about the fifth time this season that she’s obsessed with doing whatever she has to do to get a double-double. That’s why she stayed in the game until the bitter end of a 20-point blowout loss so she could get to 10 points against Indiana’s bench.
