The Iowa coaches & players do not do the Kinnick Wave.

This a new college football tradition for just the fans within Kinnick. The teams can choose to wave if they would like but they also have a job and gameplan on the field to take care of. When somebody last week suggested that Carver should do it during basketball games I knew this was getting out of hand. Let's just leave it for the fans inside Kinnick and not wear it out.

I wave in their place. Our 70,000 more than make up for our players.

They are there to win. Singular purpose.

I am there to cheer. And to take the time to be grateful for my health and wave to support those kids.

The Hawkeyes don’t need to wave. They go see the kids 1 on 1.

Minnesota players, coaches, and staff all went out on the field to wave so they could see more of the hospital. Illinois players waved too. I certainly don't expect all the visiting teams to participate, but how bad does it look if the visitors do and the Hawks don't? I think the Hawks could take 10 seconds to wave. I understand they already spend the more time with the kids than anyone else in the stadium, but it's a quick, simple gesture, which is what's so great about it. You can't tell me the Hawks taking 10 seconds to wave between quarters hurts their focus and chances to win.

Minnesota and Illinois both lost.

So they shouldn’t be bothered to raise their arms and wave for 10 seconds to the kids wearing Hawkeye jerseys who idolize them. Got it.

Should the players and coaches be involved in the burrito lift or the delta dental smile cam?? nope those are for the fans.

The coaches and players donate their time and effort to that hospital. Those kids see those players and coaches more during the week and they give them autographs and pictures with them. Those guys are doing more than a simple wave could ever do.

My nephew was in the Iowa children's hospital and KF stopped by one day. The next day 4-5 football players showed up and hung out with my nephew for like an hour. Then the next a few more came. Every day there was someone from the program in the building visiting patients. My nephew still talks about it and he's damn near 18. He said it made his day when they would come around.

So Ill give them a pass on not waving. They are doing way more than what we are doing.

THEY. SHOULD. WAVE. How the hell will this be a lasting tradition if we don't participate? Ferentz needs to get a grip.

How did it ever get started without the players, coaches, AD, university sports marketing department, or kcgolfer being part of getting it going? The "we" who needs to participate ends with the fans.

But yet you opened the thread and felt a need to comment. LOL

He was b*tching about the players not doing the wave so I said that I, along with many others apparently, could not care less whether or not they actually participate since it's inconsequential. What do you not get about that?

Lets be real, the only reason Minny went to the middle of the field was for good pub and the fact that their coach is a narcissist and will do anything for the spotlight.
KF is the opposite, he would routinely visit my daughters classmate in Des Moines because she had a pretty nasty disease (forgot what it was) and KF would just visit sometimes. He wouldn't film it, he wouldn't call the paper, he would just do it because it would brighten her day and it is the right thing to do.
Iowa will not participate in the wave because it is not about the players, it is not about the coach, it is about the kids

The Hawkeye players put in more than their fair share of time at that hospital. Ferentz gave a $mil-ticket to the hospital in the offseason. F perception. We are here to win a game and the 10-15 seconds the other team's waste on waving and not preparation and adjustments gives us a small edge.
Perception=reality.

Just look at the latest Big Ten Journey clip. Easley was at the kid's house playing video games after he got out of the hospital. The whole purpose of this the kids. It's not about perception to anyone but those kids. Yet some are using it as an opportunity to take a shot at Ferentz. The saddest thing I've seen so far this season is a picture of a little girl waving and smiling during the Penn State game. She lost her battle with cancer a couple of hours after the game ended.

At least have the players who are not getting coached at the time wave. It does look bad when the other teams sends their players out to wave.

Good god people. I swear people try to look for anything negative instead of just enjoying a good thing.

As an addition to what I said earlier, I had a feeling an argument like this would start once the Wave started. No matter how good it is for the kids, there will be some that believe it is not done in the “correct” way. Just like everything else in society, it just can’t be enjoyed because people have to be pissed about something.

Everyone must conform or one will be exiled from Kinnick and taken downtown. City council will pass an ordinance.

Not that I should be bumping this, but in case anyone missed it during OSU game....cameras on the sideline showed some players and KF waving. I'd guess the players who may not wave are the position group (and coaches) that is currently in the game...since they are huddled up talking.

Has anybody else noticed that? With opposing teams doing it now I’m sure we would call out teams that don’t do it. Let’s start with our own.
