The Mean Streets of Pella Iowa

The bakery (Jaarsmas) “ over-hyped”? Seriously?
You have pretty high standards, my friend. The football field is set-up badly…should have put the home stands on the west side of the field, but the expense of running water and sewer lines (concession stands, restrooms) to that side of the field was (according to the college) “cost prohibitive.” The result is “home” fans sit staring into bright /blinding sunlight for much of a Fall afternoon game. They should have spent the $$, but sometimes Dutch thriftiness comes back and bites you in the butt. Other than that, the field is decent and it is an improvement over what they played on before.
I’ll be interested to see how the “remodel” of the high school stadium turns out…Pella High played its home games at Central this year during their remodel.
The bakery is phenomenal. The strudel is amazing.

The visitor side has no stairs, just 4-5 individual sets of bleachers connected together, with a pretty steep slope in front of the first row.

What happens, is old folks need assistance getting up and down, sometimes scooting down the rows on their ass while some lose their balance at the top of the slope when they finally get to the bottom. It's a shit show. After a game there last month guys my age are helping all the grandparents get down safely...it's a joke.

There aren't many 4A HS stadiums that have a worse set up than this D3 school; William Penn just down the road in Oskaloosa, of all places, is much nicer.

I'm claiming that Pella does not have the best Dutch bakery. It resides in another central Iowa town(s)

It's not a bad bakery at all, but Iowans make it sound like it's a destination spot that "you just have to go to."

It's a nice bakery in a quaint, clean, small town square; it has a great, warm "Iowa" feel to it. But you can get great pastries and bread somewhere closer to you than Pella.

Police have identified the student accused of the attack as a 14-year-old. He had previously been charged with assault causing bodily injury after he allegedly assaulted a school counselor in February, according to Pella police chief Shane McSheehy.

Probably just a misunderstanding.
Sounds like someone needs to throw this kid through a Pella window.

You seem sensitive about the bakery.
The bakery reminds me of the last time I was at OP's mom's house.

Mmmmmmmm, cream filled.
