The ref literally had the line there to use as a crutch to make the call. It's like if the ball broke the plane of the goal line, which it clearly did before he was down..................

Every play is reviewed in CFB. If an offensive teams tries to hurry a snap before the play is fully reviewed, the replay official is directed to stop the play before the snap.

There is also instances where the ref marks the ball and the offense runs a play before the ref blows the whistle and really even get out of the way.

It was nothing more than vintage 1950’s Wing T Evesheski Iowa football! That “inside reverse” was the bread and butter play of that offense! The ghosts of Bob Jeter and Bill Gravel are alive and well!
