The party of institutionalized evil

The establishment dems have sold out since the 90s to Wall Street etc, and needs massive reform (as does our irreparably broken and legacy-of-slavery constitution) but only one party is overtly fascist, hateful, violent and waging a war on civility, democracy, women, people of color, LGBTQ+, and even on science and facts themselves.

The GQP is institutionalized evil.

And those who use ends-justifying-means or ideological compromise or religion to continue to support it are complicit in evil committed in a delusional punitive judgmental self virulent self righteousness.

Those people love being terrifying and destructive. Death cultists are not so bad when they drink the cool aid on their own, but when they make all life much more violent and dangerous and destructive and unsustainable and ugly for the supermajority who totally disagree with them and just want to make things work and actually solve problems, then the GQP supporters are doing unadulterated evil.

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing, as lord acton or some snooty Brit said a long while back.

“The most dangerous political organization in the history of humanity is the current Republican Party”. said Noam Chomsky -repeatedly - starting about six years ago. He explains that the republicans are waging war on the planet and they are supporting nuclear proliferation and the effect of their policies is already more devastating globally than even Hitler and mao and Stalin. And this comes from a Jewish man who’s family survived antisemitism and which lost dozens to the Holocaust.

Why did he repeatedly say this, and even before Trump's rise? Because as Chomsky saw it, a party that is actively working to destroy the environment, and actively pushing nuclear armament, rather than working with countries around the globe to reduce C02 emissions, methane emissions, etc. and other ecocidal practices, or working to ban all nuclear weapons, is pushing us ever closer to the Armageddon that the christian fascists so yearn for so that they can "meet Jesus in the clouds" and have front row seats to the war below between the heathen and the "angelic" armies of the righteous. Yes, it's that insane a magical-thinking, terrifying pseudo-religious ideology and worldview.

We need to come together, call evil what it is, call out religion for what it is, we commit to civility and science and the status of facts and the preponderance of evidence, if we are to save ourselves and our planet.

we are all actually in this together. The ship is sinking and the minority of us are running around sabotaging it and shooting innocent people and punishing the innocent and celebrating the excitement of the danger and distraction. It is evil, they are doing evil, and it must not be allowed to continue.

I always wonder with the over the top hyperbolic leftists on the board like this guy and others who spew this rhetoric are those people who really like to hear themselves talk in real life? I feel like this guy would have been a great preacher back in the day.

Lacking perspective is a big part of it.

OP mentioned a number of different groups and the environment.

The overall trendline in the US over the past 60 years is very positive on all accounts. And that includes republicans. The complaint then would be that they haven't progressed as much as one might wish. Not as much as the other party in our two party system.

I do think there are a subset of republicans that pose a distinct threat to our democracy and democratic norms. They've been growing in number and power and that's certainly concerning.

I also think that overall we're way behind on climate in general as a nation, and the chasm between repubs and dems is bigger there than the other categories mentioned. (again though, the trend line is still positive for repubs -- they're getting better)

The groups mentioned... I think progress keeps marching forward as it has for a long time now. I think that basically takes care of itself. Exposure and time will do that.

No way to spin this otherwise, fellas. I am not a registered democrat either. Dems are almost as pro-corporate as republicans. But the GQP has gone off the rails, off the deep end, and is doing tremendous evil. As are the corporate media who support them. As are the true believers who haven't just drunk the kool aid, but are forcing it down everyone else's throats, from kids in schools to families at 4th of july parades to women ad marginalized communities everywhere. Evil.

"Evil is as evil does." (Forrest Gump)

Example A: the top story on Fox News right now is a piece about the Highland Park killer (whose name I shall never mention), simply painting him as quite and crazy, but omitting the facts that he was an enthusiastic Trump supporter (seen in videos cheering for the Trump motorcade), a white supremacist, and radicalized by the violent rightwing fascist movement growing in his country. He was not overtly a member of a fascist group, but his social media accounts and music are strewn with white supremacist, fascist, and violent, sociopathic images, words, and references.

The Vice article is more balanced and presents the whole picture as we have it now, but the Fox story is Orwellian and deeply dishonest and disturbing. Hence the evil continues because millions of americans never get the facts to call evil by its name, and to connect what they support with the evil that is growing. Fox isn't mentioning data about gun violence, downplaying the weaponry, just focusing on "thoughts and prayers" and "no one could have known" and ignoring his overt connections to trumpism, fascism, violence, and hatred.

From Vice: "His YouTube channel also featured a logo that appears to resemble the one used by the Finnish far-right group known as Suomen Sisu, which has published books by white supremacist David Duke. His Discord channel was also called “SS” which may be a reference to Hitler’s personal bodyguard troop."

With all of this "evil" talk, dude sounds like a Baptist.

It only seems hyperbolic to those with their head firmly in the sand (or worse).

What's sad is that this plain, accurate overview of the dangers posed by the GOP and their fellow-travelers doesn't generate corrective action.

I think the republicans who are worse than Hitler, Mao and Stalin combined could probably give Voltron a run for his money.

Clearly he disapproved so much he thought it was his patriotic duty to steal from it.

And Florida voters seem to agree.

How about this experiment:

Let's terminate SS and Medicare payments to all residents of Florida, as long as Scott is their Senator (or in any other public office).

Give them and America a taste of what One Party Republican rule will look like in the not too distant future - unless we come to our senses.

Gotcha.

Why are people still interviewing Chomsky?

Eff that guy

This response to the question is close enough to what I'm thinking. You've picked your side. You're on Team Chomsky, Sachs and Putin. Edit - Apparently Team Gosar, too. Fair enough. We get it.

I'm guessing that you bet on the Don't Pass line in craps, as well.

And now...for a totally different take from the Noam Chomsky school of thought....the U.S is to blame, of course. Never mind that the Russians are the country that actually, you know....invaded another country.

Empires in terminal decline leap from one military fiasco to the next. The war in Ukraine, another bungled attempt to reassert U.S. global hegemony, fits this pattern. The danger is that the more dire things look, the more the U.S. will escalate the conflict, potentially provoking open confrontation with Russia. If Russia carries out retaliatory attacks on supply and training bases in neighboring NATO countries, or uses tactical nuclear weapons, NATO will almost certainly respond by attacking Russian forces. We will have ignited World War III, which could result in a nuclear holocaust.

U.S. military support for Ukraine began with the basics — ammunition and assault weapons. The Biden administration, however, soon crossed several self-imposed red lines to provide a tidal wave of lethal war machinery: Stinger anti-aircraft systems; Javelin anti-armor systems; M777 towed Howitzers; 122mm GRAD rockets; M142 multiple rocket launchers, or HIMARS; Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles; Patriot air defense batteries; National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS); M113 Armored Personnel Carriers; and now 31 M1 Abrams, as part of a new $400 million package. These tanks will be supplemented by 14 German Leopard 2A6 tanks, 14 British Challenger 2 tanks and tanks from other NATO members, including Poland. Next on the list are armor-piercing depleted uranium (DU) ammunition and F-15 and F-16 fighter jets.

Since Russia invaded on Feb. 24, 2022, Congress has approved more than $113 billion in aid to Ukraine and allied nations supporting the war in Ukraine. Three-fifths of this aid, $67 billion, has been allocated for military expenditures. There are 28 countries transferring weapons to Ukraine. All of them, with the exception of Australia, Canada and the U.S., are in Europe.

The rapid upgrade of sophisticated military hardware and aid provided to Ukraine is not a good sign for the NATO alliance. It takes many months, if not years, of training to operate and coordinate these weapons systems. Tank battles — I was in the last major tank battle outside Kuwait City during the first Gulf war as a reporter — are highly choreographed and complex operations. Armor must work in close concert with air power, warships, infantry and artillery batteries. It will be many months, if not years, before Ukrainian forces receive adequate training to operate this equipment and coordinate the diverse components of a modern battlefield. Indeed, the U.S. never succeeded in training the Iraqi and Afghan armies in combined arms maneuver warfare, despite two decades of occupation.

They have had some decent reporting on the war.
Chomsky, however, for some reason, keeps getting paid to write. He's intellectually sloppy and lacks cohesive logic in his arguments.

And he's been mostly dead for about 11 years.

Lot of quotes. Don't see WWJD in any of them though.
Don't think you made the point you thought you did.
I assumed he was trying to show that I'm not on the same page as many of my fellow-libs here, for a change.

That's true, I'm sorry to say. I'm not sure why that is. I suspect it's because they are more plugged into the MSNBC/CNN/Dem news sources than I am - an echo chamber which has become excessively and unchallengingly pro-war, imo.

It's possible to be clear-eyed about Russia's transgressions without drinking a lot of extra jingoistic Kool Aid. But I don't see much of that here. And apparently it's not something you can talk about.

You're not on the same page as many on several topics.
We don't mind.
We are not the right that requires homogony of thought.
