Given some of the comments of JBo and Connor, it's obvious that at least some of the players are reading these boards and listening to the criticism, wherever it arises, when they lose. Rather unfortunate given the Hot/Cold nature of so many on here.
Actually they do. Ask any kid coming out of College deep in debt if they would take some criticism in exchange for that bill. I'm guessing it would be 100%, Yepper. And I don't see any of these pampered Athletes bitching when the accolades and perks of being a D1 Athlete come their way.Pretty interesting comments, especially around the 26 minute mark. Saying they don't make enough $ for the criticism they are getting from some of the fans. Pretty good episode. Big game tomorrow! GO HAWKS!
Yeah, message boards are an old guy hangout. They're reading Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
I don't think people under the age of 30 are aware of the existence of message boards.
Message boards are the laser disc of social media.
I think JBo deserves to be able to make money off his name and NCAA system is rigged to benefit coaches/ncaa big wigs at expense of players. I don't question his heart and I think he will end up being valuable part of Iowa team. That doesn't mean some rejiggering of the starting lineup and minutes is not warranted.

Fans could stop being assholes, but they should seriously quit if it bothers them that much. Especially because social media is a choice. Any person getting compensated for a job that comes with the upside of being a public figure is subject to critique. That’s how the real world works.
I understand the frustration fans feel with a loss. I do not understand when fans feel the need to reach out to the players on social media to air their grievances. The players are putting in the work and want to win just as badly as we do. They can use our support, but do not need our criticism.
I know Kirk took a lot of flack for his policy of keeping his players off of Twitter, but I can appreciate it. We have seen some players (Josey Jewel) who look for that criticism as motivation, but more often than not it becomes more of a distraction (Zach McCabe and Jordan Bohannon).
This board can be hard to read after a loss for anyone not playing. I cannot imagine what it would be like for a player or their family as has been seen with some of the parents of the football players.
This should be a site where we come to commiserate wins and losses. I hope we can all keep in mind that most of the people on this board are Hawk fans and we all want the Hawks to win.
Nobody is forcing you to continue to play. I’m not pinning this all on JBO either but my god. 65% of our college graduate hires turnover in the first 6 months of the job because we have a heavy feedback culture (to make you better). Why do they think they’re exempt from criticism or feedback? If anything he’s lucky he has a choice whether to listen or not, won’t have that luxury in the real world if you want to stay employed.
He's desperate for attention. That's been apparent for a couple years now.Why does he have a podcast?
There are assholes at every phase of life. You can’t get rid of them.
He's desperate for attention. That's been apparent for a couple years now.
The real world is slowly catching up to him. Cant play a game for your entire life as it does not pay the bills for 99% of athletes after college. He's desperate for attention. That's been apparent for a couple years now.
I do agree, but that does not make it OK to be an asshole. I am not calling out anyone in particular with this post.
Oh I totally agree. But the players have the power...just ignore people or stay off social media.
No idea about what's on his podcast. Wouldnt ever waste the time listening to it.I have not listened to Jordan’s podcast yet as I already subscribe to more than I can listen. Does he give any insight into what it is like to play on the team and for Fran? I heard on the WUW podcast that Jordan had gotten CJ Beathard on his podcast recently, which interested me.
I’m saying part of having the platform they do is going to come with criticism even from a fan base. That’ll NEVER go away right or wrong. So ultimately they should decide whether it’s worth then continuing to play or not.You are correct in that no one is forcing them to play or pay attention to this criticism. I do have a question in regards to criticizing the players. Do you mean criticizing the players directly or on message boards? The players do not need direct criticism or feedback from us as fans. They have their coaches for that.
Why does he have a podcast?
They do have that power and I wish that they would utilize it. On the other hand, I think it is a shame that we have to talk about this. We all need to be more civil to each other and not just post anything we want because it is an anonymous message board.
☝️Yeah I don’t think now is the best time for them to bitch, given the average debt loads of college graduates.
The typical student athlete is embarrassingly clueless as to the financial structure of the NCAA, and it’s mainly because of uneducated fans and disingenuous people like jay bilas in their ear.
Link to all these ncaa big wigs making all this money?
And keep in mind, a large percentage of the coaches that are getting rich are...
Former student athletes!!!
It’s almost like being able to demonstrate a path to personal success or wealth through coaching is...
Good for the student athletes!!!
He does. It’s called a scholarship, meals, etc. at the tune of about $150,000 over four years.I think JBo deserves to be able to make money off his name and NCAA system is rigged to benefit coaches/ncaa big wigs at expense of players. I don't question his heart and I think he will end up being valuable part of Iowa team. That doesn't mean some rejiggering of the starting lineup and minutes is not warranted.
More like coaching is semi closed fraternity where your 1st break depends on who you know more than what you know... BF at Iowa is prime example...got job at New England through Dad's connections than fast track to Offensive coordinator under his Dad. Cmac is probably on same path.
You honestly don't think those coaching at NCAA P5 teams in the money sports B-ball/football aren't cleaning up money wise while the athletes get scholarships? After coaches, Next in Line is Big Commissioner, Next in line are the ADs..all well compensated. Then you can look at former players like say a Tyler Sash or Greenwood...how well are they doing? My beef would be that some of the money going to the elites should be instead distributed to the athletes, especially athletes with injuries. JBo with both his hips replaced, yeah, he should be getting some of Fran's money.
