This is just garbage basketball

Seems like the effort was good, only lost by 11, and Fran still gets paid.
Sounds like a positive result today

I won[t donate a penny to Iowa basketball until Fran is gone. He played his sons before NBA talent, think about that. His name once he is gone should never be mentioned again. Bucky O'Conner, Ralph Miller, Lute Olson, George Raveling, Dr. Tom Davis........Iowa basketball has been shit since then, Fire Fran.
Amen brother… Amen!

Calling a team that's missing its best player "garbage".

That's really weak

Fran has never made it past the round of 32 at Iowa and you can count his total number of NCAA tournament wins here on one hand. He hasn’t been a terrible coach but he’s not better than mediocre. He’s had 15 years here and in my opinion hasn’t impressed.

He will be 66 next season; I don’t think he’ll be back next year. Whether it’s a buyout or he simply resigns is hard to say but I think he’s done. My sense is that he will want to watch his kid at Butler.

He was clearly an improvement from Lickliter but overall has been underwhelming, particularly in tournament games. Time for a change; nobody really cares about mens bball anymore.
Oh … he’s gone. There’s zero doubt he’s gone …

Agree it’s time for a change. But we also need more NIL money. Hearing Brad talk makes it sound like we are in the bottom of B10 in terms of basketball support.
Oh My God Reaction GIF

Questions for you:
1. Do you think Fran has done a good job and the program is heading in the right direction?

2. If yes, please explain?
3. Do you want Fran to return?
4. If yes, how many years do you think Fran should get to “elevate” Iowa basketball?

Pryce is a better defensive player then Payton and may end up a better offensive player as well before it's all over....
Pryce is already a much better all around offensive player. He can actually put the ball on the floor and doesn't take terrible shots.

Payton has a net negative impact on the game most nights and then once every 6 or 7 games he makes a bunch of shots.

Yeah the fans.
It is indeed the fans fault that the product stinks. I for one love throwing money into the wind. If we bought NBA caliber players with NIL money think what Fran could do? Oh yeah, lose in the round of 32 in an embarrassing fashion. But let’s give him another year with this juggernaut recruiting class. He’s so close to putting it together, I think by year 20 he should get there. Needs more time!

Yes … he’s JUST about to turn the corner! His .510 B10 record is just a smoke screen …

He’ll be gone. His buyout is worth every penny so blow this shit up and start fresh…
I hope so. $4.2MM paid out over 3 years is nothing if we are serious about our program. Ticket sales alone will pay for it if we make the right hire. I’m still amazed we have fans who think we should run it back again with Fran, truly incredible.

Fortunately the Franatics are even running out of excuses to keep this very average coach….

Just read the craziest stupidest thing I have in a while.

One of the ESPN guys who keeps track of teams' chances to make the tournament said that with today's loss, it dropped Iowa's chances from 27 to 22%.

Talk about optimism. I wouldn't give the Hawks a TWO percent chance right now!

Behind the internet, are we sure the so called FANS that what Fran to return next year are really IOWA fans or are they fans of other BIG schools. Heck, remember how Tom Izzo was addiment that Todd Lickliter shouldn't be fired after only 3 years.
Fran has been taking money from the UOI for the last 15 years with hardly nothing to show for it...one disappointment after another.

Just an FYI, you are interacting with a troll

I’m sure a high % are trolls *cough* eyesofhawk, but there’s still believers out there. Maybe believers isn’t the right word, let’s go with people who’d rather invest in CD’s than the stock market. Just too much risk moving on from my 1.75 % APY CD that’s guaranteed to lose against inflation. It’s scary out there. With Fran we know we’ll never do anything, but we also know we won’t be lickliter, so it’s ok.

Iowa just doesn’t have talent or athleticism. Dix and maybe Traore and Thelwell off the bench are about the only Iowa players I would want on the team. The rest are PWO or Missouri Valley talent.

Payton Sandfort clearly has the McCaffrey union card. It doesn’t matter how many ill-advised shots he chucks up, how soft he is on defense, or how little he cares about boxing out and rebounding, his minutes are never in doubt. Harding belongs at Kirkwood; Mulvey is a joke; Dembele has Adam Woodbury athleticism, and the other Sandfort is a carbon copy of his brother.

Wisconsin is pretty much what they always are—scrappy and well coached. No one on the floor really impresses you too much, Tonje is decent, they just have a bunch of guys who can shoot 3s and play tough defense. Generally, that’s a recipe for winning a lot of games.

Anyway, I watched today and it’s pretty much what I expected. Even if Iowa pulls this game out of their ass, Fran ball needs to go. Bring in a coach who stops scouring the sales counters of J Crew and the Pottery Barn for recruits. This is college basketball, not a swim meet.
Do you belong to SWARM or just a typical bitcher?

With college sports being a business, the last guy I want in charge is an old dude that doesn't understand the portal, has problem recruiting/keeping Black athletes, doesn't understand NIL, roster management, or basketball X and O's and on top of it is mailing it in for a full buyout so he can hang out with Jack at Butler.

It's going to be expensive to get rid of this guy and be able to pay the next guy and fund NIL, but please pull the plug this spring. It will be even worse next year if Fran is still around. The guy is not honorable enough to call it quits on his own and Barta gave him too big of an extension/guaranteed money in 2021.
Both sides agreed to the contract, your comment about not honorable to call it quits is one of the most idiotic statements you have ever made. The University needs to pay him off if they want to change coaches.

Don’t be cute. In this case one side clearly already has shut it down. His inability to win or show respectability is hurting the university and the MBB program. If Beth can’t negotiate a reasonable severance with FM, she needs to find every little piece of dirt to cut ties with him
now. Hopefully she has done her due diligence and already has it.

People want to be an ass... whatever. Don't love it, but it happens these days.

People want to be an ass when the team's best player is out...then they're clearly just out to be an ass
Honest question: What color is the sky in your universe?
If you can't see this is heading in a bad direction you are delusional.
It's been crap basketball for awhile now with no real achievements that mean anything.
If you can't see it's time for a new start you're just plain dumb.

It has appeared to me all season long that Fran’s tenor and body language indicate he’s resigned to the fact he doesn’t have the horses to compete at a high level, even at full strength.

And worse, it's been a steady downward trend the past few years.

2021 - 2 seed and 2nd round loss
2022 - 5 seed and 1st round loss
2023 - 8 seed and 1st round loss
2024 - 2nd round NIT loss
2025 - Might not even make the conference tournament

No, I don't expect Iowa to be top 2-5 ncaa seed every year, but the trend is alarming. Even if you throw out 2021 and 2022 (those are obvious outliers for Fran) the trend is still downward.
